PREGAME Rams at Bengals Pregame Thread

If the offense begins to roll the game could be over early. If the defense plays as well as they did against the Hawks, the game won't be close. Why the Bengals are favored makes no sense. They have a gimpy QB and Stafford is 100%. Their defense struggled with Kupp and now the Rams have Puka and Atwell. The Ram OL is the best it's been in years.

IMO the Seahawks are probably a better team than the Bengals right now. They've struggle to get pressure with their DL and they aren't a big blitzing team. They try to buy time with their secondary which the first two weeks has struggled. Their LBs are covering gaps to contain the run particularly on early downs. If the Rams pass on first down and get into second and short or medium it's going to stress that defense. It's designed to stuff early down runs and have good secondary play to stop second and third down passing.

The Rams offense we have seen this year will be a problem for them. This OL should be able to stone their pass rush. Stafford should have time to cook. That's why I don't expect a close game. The only way it's close is if the Rams self destruct with turnovers and penalties. If the Rams play a clean game they win.

If they roll out Browning the key is simply don't make things easy for him. Don't let Browning get into a rhythm. When he's good he's good, so the ideal would be to keep him uncomfortable the entire game. From what I'm hearing it sounds like they will start Browning and not risk their franchise QB getting run over by Aaron. Even if they go 0-3 they can come back from the brink with a healthy Burrows and contend for a wildcard. If Burrows gets hurt worse he could be gone for most of the season. Taylor would be foolish to gamble his season with a gimply QB against an OL that had problems against Donald and doesn't seem improved this year.

The Rams simply need to come out and play their offense, and the defense needs to play aggressively. Do that and I see this game as a Ram win.

Vegas goes off odds or percentages. They are desperate.

GAME DAY GDT: Rams at Seahawks - Week 1

Okay - I just watched this game and have a few comments to make

1 - Akers must have been whining to get cut from the team. I did not see much running lanes for him against Seattle. I need to do an All 22 to see more.

2 - Jefferson wasn't targeted that much but it appeared he was the deep man and Stafford targeted the short part of the field. I don't think he was the number 1 option on very often. That 1 drop was bad but I really can't remember him dropping a pass when he is that open. Again all 22 to make sure

3 - They need to get Rozeboom out of there. He is a mini Reeder out there and Reeder was bad enough.

4. Hoecht is not an OLB - he can't cover anyone - he is too slow

5. Other than the 1 play, I thought Kendrick did a commendable job. Again all 22 to be sure

6. Morris played tough coverage when it was 3rd and short the majority of the time. I had no problem with his defense. Now the question is - was it the DB coach last year the problem by telling his players to play soft or was it Morris insistence to play soft and Pleasant has said this year - trust me coach - we can play tough and not give up the big play too often. I will have to watch the 49er game to see if they played similarly.

The Los Angeles Rams WERE NOT SUPPOSED To Do This…

Okay - I am back from France for 2 weeks and haven't watched the games yet - also I hate typing on the phone

But looking at the comments I can see/admit to two things:

One - the Rams offense is better that what I even predicted. I thought they would do well but not really until Coop got back. Puka has been a stud but he will start to get dinged up if he continues to take the hits he does. Hopefully he and Coop will split each others touches.

Two - the Rams defense is playing much better than I thought. I figured it would take at minimum 8 games before this young defense would start to jell. I am still worried if Aaron or Jones goes down. Who do they have to replace them?

One thing I am worried about is their special teams on punt returns and field goals. Still not sure either is going to do well this year.

I will try to watch both games today when I get a chance. Got a lot of stuff to do since I just got back last night.

Notes and slo-mo re-watch of second half of Niners game

So on the flip side, the PF on Greenlaw against Nakua looked questionable at best. It helped the Rams get their first TD. They can get Greenlaw doing something extracurricular every series if they called that tightly. Rams got lucky on that one.

The whiners like to act like thugs and the refs should throw the flags.

I find it odd that there was only one offensive holding call in the game (unless I'm mistaken) and it was against the Rams.

The whiners are employing quite often, the bear hug technique when blocking AD and it wasn't flagged all day long.

GAME DAY TNF: Giants at 49’ers - Week 3

Still surprised the refs and the league keep letting Trent get away with his bullshit.

Also saw a great name for Purdy

Brock Pennington, he's seeming to be another smart slightly mobile qb with a weak ass arm.
Refs bailed them out more than once.

Giants are hot garbage right now. Maybe they're better when their o-line gets healthier and they aren't going against a top-3 defense.

Cam Akers Out - Coach's Decision

So, if Akers is not a personality fit, I wish they had cut him last year. Then they may have drafted a RB in the last draft.

We all think Kyren can’t be a lead back due to his size. If he’s hurt then the Rams are suddenly hurting at the RB position.

Back to personality fit- my guess is Cam wants to be the lead back despite not being a good blocker. Instead of buying into the overall plan he sulked a bit and felt under appreciated. I don’t see that as a reason to hate on the guy. But it definitely doesn’t sound like ‘We not me’.

So, Snead used a second round pick on him. Did he not do his homework on Cam’s character? Did he figure that need and talent trumped that issue? We won’t ever find out. I wonder if part of this saga had something to do with the last draft focus being about team leaders and kids that fought to be on the field. Could be. I hope it the new focus continues. They can’t afford to be wasting early picks on guys like Greg Robinson, Jackrabbit, or Akers.

Some things that I’m hoping to see, preferably as soon as the Bengal game…

A few snaps for Zack Evans to spell Williams. Just start with 5-6 snaps or so to see what the kid’s got.

More 12 sets. This could really help get our running game going, plus I think Hopkins or Allen could be weapons that really stress opposing D’s, always a good thing.

More running plays called. Stafford throwing 55 times per game is unsustainable.

Sit Jefferson and give his snaps in 11 sets to Robinson/Skow/ Trammel until one of them breaks out.

A lot less Kendrick and a helluva lot more Tomlinson. This should be a no brainer for Morris after 2 games. C’mon…

Kyren Williams’ return snaps should be over immediately. Period.

Snead should be exploring every option to bring in an edge player that is more effective than Hoecht. Then return Hoecht to that DL for more depth.

Thoughts?
Everything you said I totally agree with 12 personnel can help in the pass game. Watch SF they block with 7 guys sometimes.

Secondary: is it bad?

He looks like a clear upgrade to Kendrick. Fast and tall he had a very good rookie season in with 6 PD and 4 FF along with 55 solo tackles.

Apparently, he got injured in 2021 and again in 2022 and is why he was available. There is no question he has the physical metrics and plays well when healthy. Each of the injuries are unusual types, such as a dislocated elbow.

Give him a week or two to be coached up and I think he could play opposite Witherspoon with Shelly at SCB. Regardless he looks like good depth at the very least.
