RB Mike Davis coming to visit

I like his vision and quick cuts. He has some power too. Can catch too.

The Seahawks turned Mike Davis into the free agent market, and now they’ve brought him home.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Seahawks have agreed to a one-year deal with the running back, who was available when they didn’t tender him as a restricted free agent.

Davis visited the Rams and Lions, before returning to the team that didn’t want to offer him $1.907 million just over a week ago.

The 25-year-old Davis had some solid performances for the Seahawks down the stretch, with a 16-carry, 64-yard game against the Eagles and a 15-carry, 64-yard game against the Jaguars in December.

That was enough to bring him back, as they try to retool an offense as they tear down a defense.

I really hate this guy!

WR Justin Watson - Penn

Honest question: what would put him in the 6th round. He's big, fast, and somebody here said he produced. Unless it's obvious that he had zero wr skills I would think he'd go before the 6th round. But I know nothing, so there's that.
Probably level of competition....and the type of scheme he played in....say he didn't have a playbook at Penn (doubt it tho), that would be a problem....Hard to eval guys from that college division...Penn...Harvard...Colgate...Columbia....does Columbia have a football team???

2017 full 7 rd ROD Mock Draft: Completed

Very helpful Shaun.(y)
I'm glad that @nighttrain decided to take charge as I don't have the time to do it again this year.
Here's some (maybe) helpful hints train:
1. Be prepared to either make a pick yourself (or have a fallback GM) for the occasional tardy GM.
2. Make sure you have at least two standby GMs ready to replace any GM who drops out. We've yet to finish a mock with the same GMs we started with.
3. If a change in the rules I used works better for you go for it.
4. Rely on the other GMs to help you out as you'll probably need their help. I know I did.:help::grouphug:
Good luck guys and I hope you get some great players in the real draft.

Hey shaun, did you change your email address? I've sent you a couple of emails and had no response.
Hey Alan, hope you're well, not change my email my man, but migrated servers a few months back - I'll drop you an email tonight.

Rams to host Oklahoma OLB Ogbonnia Okoronkwo for visit

I listed other options a while back in the OLB thread to keep an eye on for the Rams that IMO they could be very high on, guys we haven't discussed too much here like Chad Thomas. Didn't go too deep putting up links on them, but there are a lot of athletic options when you get to the raw types too, ones that a great staff like we have might be able to convert into something special.

ILB is deep for our purposes too in the same way. There are difference makers up high and then guys who can just come in and execute scheme for us later on. I think OLB is a greater need, and that would lead me to think that the Rams will go that route at 23, but the ILB options that might be there could very well end up graded higher on the Rams board so who knows. There are guys, to include some I listed in the ILB thread, that will come into value in round two, like Malik Jefferson.

I just can't remember a complete LB class (ILB & OLB) that has been so deep as this one from the big/gifted athlete perspective. There are a lot of ways the Rams can go, and I do trust that they'll get it right with a couple of them at least, so it's exciting stuff.
Would seem to me that Sweat & Key have switched rankings since February. Key is in free fall @ the moment. Sweat after yesterdays pro day is rising just as fast. I agree that knee would keep me from consideration until #87 slot.

Little nugget: Rams met with D2 WR DJ Myers

Plenty of rookie WRs have had bad playoff games.
Of course....I just pointed out his....
Please include, many a rookie wr has had great playoff games.
Hell plenty of great players have had bad playoff games.
Of course....although I'd question if they were indeed "great" players.

Conversely, plenty of great players have had great playoff games....
To knock a guy for that just seems unfair and a little biased in my eyes.
It would be biased if I didn't base my observations on things I hadn't seen. He played poorly. And I just commented we don't need another wr that struggles getting open against the best competition.
He was great for us all season.
Definitely not true....a little biased maybe?? Too many crucial drops to have a great season. Not enough yards to have a great season. Definitely not enough TD catches.
Had some rookie moments but overall very good season and will be an integral part of the offense moving forward.
Good...your opinion...decent mine...poor against the best...Can't remember his numbers vs Minn....and other losses. Decent slot wr....needs to get better at clutch catches...needs to separate better in red zone. Don't need another one just like him...It be like adding Jarvis Landry.

Mock 3/20/18

Merlin:
My thinking is that it's obvious how hungry so many teams are for a QB right now. I'm still scratching my head over that jets trade.

What if Mannion has a good pre-season? Maybe there might be a market for a solid backup. I would much rather get back a pick for a backup than give him a pay raise when you ideally would not want him to ever play.

OnceARam:
That interview will be hard to find for a tech Neanderthal like me. I was actually in a rental car at the time and had to use the siryus (?) channels. I think it was espn football.
What I can say is that they asked him to break down a couple plays and each time he would go through his pre-snap reads to determine which routes would be adjusted and where everybody would be, whether it was cover 2, cover 3, man, etc.. The kid was very impressive. Great attitude.

Looks like The Rams will sign Dominique Easley

Champ there is no way Westbrook’s & Morgan Fox are gone. Those 2 are very underrated. They both play hard & are productive.
I think it means Connor Barwin might not be brought back ?
I think its more likely they try and sneak Tanzel Smart onto the practice squad and let Easley back up Donald. Westbrooks can play all the down lineman spots, but is probably at his best as the backup NT. Fox probably plays heavy rotational snaps as a 5 tech on another team, so he has a lot of value as well.
I think both Westbrooks & Fox could start on some teams....in the near future....I just don't see a place for them if we sign Suh....signed Easley....have Donald, Brockers, Smart....am I missing someone??? One or both are probably gone.

Barwin is a OLB....and I wouldn't bring him back either.
Easley seems like one of those guys who is too athletic for his own good, like Watt, or Derrick Rose. Most humans just aren't allowed to be so explosive.
Hmmmmm....there is a belief that tendons and ligaments don't strengthen like muscle....no real blood supply....anyhoots....

D Rose movements did seem to indicate he'd blow something....those jump stops....but he didn't look highly trained....to me....probably a natural athlete...didn't need much to be as explosive as he was.

Watt seemed to take training to the extreme....I didn't understand why he did so much of that tire lifting stuff....wasn't surprised he had back trouble.

Easley....man if you saw him in person....quite a man....very heavily muscled....short in stature....but if you look out there, he fits....next to Brockers...Westbrooks...guys short like AD....but even more muscular. After Willis McGehee...I don't doubt anyone with an ACL injury....Med. science has just advanced too far....I think if he stays motivated to play, he'll be fine.

Your top 5 Choices (Within reason that they will be available when the Rams pick at #23)?

Assuming we can't trade out of the 23rd overall spot, my current prioritized list of realistic draft targets are as follows:
  1. DE Marcus Davenport: A raw pass rusher with tremendous physical tools. While he's a work in progress, he's talented enough to contribute for the upcoming season.
  2. ILB Leighton Vander Esch: Would immediately and capably fill our hole in the linebacker corps and likely be a mainstay as an inside linebacker for the next decade or so.
  3. DT Da'Ron Payne: Signing either Suh or Hankins, would significantly lessen the need for a nose tackle in the draft but we can't assume either will be a done deal at the moment.
  4. OT Kolton Miller: There may be other priorities higher on the list to address but having a capable offensive lineman to serve as either Whitworth or Sullivan's understudy and heir apparent is a need that can only be put off for so long. Plus, Jamon Brown is considered a weak link on our current O-line.
  5. TE Dallas Goedert: Drafting another tight end with a high draft pick may trigger a queasy response, but pairing Goedert and Everett together could provide McVay with the TE duo that will allow him to fully unleash his playbook while addressing the production loss from the departure of Watkins from the WR corps. Let's not forget that the Rams actually pursued Eifert in the off-season only to be rebuffed.
Anything can happen in a draft but I don't see any of Tremaine Edmunds, Calvin Ridley, or Vita Vea falling to our current selection slot.

Ram Thoughts From the East Coast

Free Agency is off and silly money as always is being handed out. I think our Rams have been pretty responsible thus far. Hard not to be excited about the additions of Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib. The addition of NRC is huge also. You add the best slot corner with 2 of the top outside corners and yes, you have the best set of corners in the NFL. Not afraid to come out and say it. Also when you consider 58% of defenses played are sub packages, makes the NRC even that more valuable. Sully is back on a nice deal also. So now what? What moves do they make? I would like to see them add a TE. Ebron would be worth a look, maybe Martellus Bennett for a year? After losing Sammy, TE seems like a logical and cheaper way to shore up the receiving core. I like what I seen from Everett but is he ready for a full load? Even so, the Rams need another piece. Higbee is not the answer IMO. So the question remains are they going for it or what? This leads me to Aaron Donald.

Free agency is even more sillier money wise than ever. I like the thinking on NRC being valuable because of sub packages. However, him and Sullivan got much higher deals than most everyone thought. Teams stacking money could hurt the entire makeup of the league. We all love the horns but, it is nice to have the same players on the Rams year in and year out. Not of fan of Ebron but, another TE could help.

This leads me to even more questions. If you had to choose 1 of the following 3, who would you choose? Aaron Donald, Jared Goff or Todd Gurley? There is no way all 3 will be signed by the Rams, unless one of them takes a super team friendly deal and even then Im not sure its possible. The Rams need to decide who they are keeping. Not my preference but my guess is Donald will be odd man out. Dont disregard Suh coming in for a visit. If he does signs multi year, my guess is we have 1 year left with Donald. Suh would be more than half the cost of Donald. Not saying this is what I want, but the Rams have to make some extremely tough decisions in the coming years.

I'm not going to say it is impossible to keep the big three. I have been saying it's not going to be easy. Demoff has to stagger cap hits to have a chance at making it work. Playing with numbers I came up with 23 Million is appox. 13% of this years cap. Somehow Demoff and the Rams have come up with a formula for the % they want to pay each year to the big three. The problems lie in predicting both future cap amounts and payments. I'm sure Demoff has some kind of program. If they were paying the big three 33 % of todays cap it would be around 58.5 Mil ...25 M for Goff....22 M for Donald and 11.5 M for Gurley. Think about that.

Peter King: MMQB - 3/19/18

"You have no idea what I've been through the last two days."
Wow.
So brutal and tough. You have to field phone calls and texts to profit a nice percentage on a huge NFL contract....a contract that has nothing to do you your skill or abilities.
What a twat that agent is.

Peter King is a person who forms his opinions in a vacuum of his own sucking.

Half the NFL could have a different Week One starting quarterback in 2018

theres a couple on there that are slighty dubious

Watson would have been starting all year if he hadn't got injured same for philly ..

but agree good to be out of that looking for a QB group
Except even healthy he wasn’t the day 1 starter. I agree the Philly one is a stretch and so is Miami.
It is amazing how many qb will be suiting up for their new team however and it’s awesome that the Rams aren’t in the conversation

Jets trade up to #3

Browns the big winners of this. Pick your QB at 1 and have your choice of any non QB at 4.

I'm not sure, I've got the top 3 QBs as interchangeable this year, not 1 guy I'm inn favour of, my pecking order keeps changing. I'd probably go with Barkley at #1 after seeing the damage that Gurley did last year then pick the best QB at #4 or test the water and move back from #1 for a QB desperate team?
