Peyton Manning has decided the broadcast booth isn’t for him. At least not for now.

The former quarterback has turned down FOX’s pursuit of him as the lead game analyst for its Thursday night package, Andrew Marchand of the New York Post reports. Manning previously said no to ESPN, which wanted him for Monday Night Football.

Tony Romo’s success on CBS led to renewed pursuit of Manning.

Instead, FOX will have to turn to Plan B. Kurt Warner is expected to be among those considered for the job, according to Marchand. Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, retired quarterback Carson Palmer and retired offensive linemen Joe Thomas auditioned with the network.

ESPN is considering Olsen, Warner, Matt Hasselbeck, Louis Riddick and Randy Moss, among others, for the Monday Night Football job, via Marchand.

Raiders cut Clive Walford

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/10471/clive-walford

Raiders waived TE Clive Walford.
A formerly buzzed about third-rounder, Walford's career was derailed by a 2016 ATV accident. He caught just nine passes in 13 games last season, falling behind Jared Cook and Lee Smith on the depth chart before a concussion landed him on injured reserve in December. Going on 27, Walford and his intriguing skill-set will still earn a second look, perhaps even on waivers

___________

If he's still available on waivers, his salary this year would be about $822k, so just adds a few hundred thousand to the cap. Good catch percentage, not exciting, may not have much left after the accident - but the Rams will likely need another TE, and he could be cut for nothing if it doesn't work out in training camp. Perhaps the Rams should take a look, since he'll be cheap and at one time looked like a good youngish TE

He’s a good blocker with good qualities to potentially be a good receiver. Not elite speed for a TE but fast enough... the problem is, since his ATV accident has in 2016, he hasn’t been the same player. I’m all for taking a flier and seeing how it works out

Altered Carbon

I had started it, but fell asleep a couple of times during the intro. I was a huge fan of the Killing so I was hopefull about the show.
Glad to hear some positives, will watch next. Currently watching Sneaky Pete on Amazon. Don't really like it, just want to see how it ends

Last years Power Rankings

Every year I get caught up in our own acquisitions and fail to perceive accurately how other teams have evolved or which teams have potential.

I went back to find last year post free agency power rankings and it's really amazing to see how different the perceptions were back then and how the season took unexpected turns for many teams (Giants, Raiders, Cowboys were all contenders, Rams and Jags were snobbed)

Now I know power rankings are not universaly liked or agreed on but I think we can reasonably say that they quite accurately put teams in their generally perceived tier. Last years the Eagles were #19, the Vikings were #22, things turned out differently

Last years : http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...nkings-free-agency-pushing-giants-toward-no-1
This Year : http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...ngs-vikings-rams-rising-via-free-agencytrades

Now our free agency was truly special this year, but let's keep in mind that only 5 out of last years top 18 teams made the playoffs. Off season is not over and every season is different.

CAP Space for AD?

He can get paid when it's time for him to get paid. The Rams are within their rights to take that 5th year option. It's not like the guy isn't making huge money from Ads and sponsors. The man is making some serious bank.

I don't know why these players are so entitled. Same with OBJ. Kid was hurt all year and acts the fool in the off-season and now is making a spectacle of himself. That's what the entitled attitude is getting us nowadays, these guys aren't Role Models anymore.

He's not entitled. He's the best defensive player in the league and deserves to be paid like it. The rams have had him dirt cheap for 4 years. Time to pay up.

.

The official Aaron Donald holdout thread - #Questfor100

If I am not mistaken the Rams can hold on to Donald for two more seasons without resigning him. This would likely put him on the downside of his career when he signs after that, to me the Rams have the upper hand in these negotiations and should not break the bank for him by giving him top QB money. As for Shu if he refuses to sign a one or two year contact for 10 million a season move on from him, I'm not even sure he is a good fit. The Rams use to have to over pay to get free agents to play for them when they were perennial losers this has changed now that they are winning. Players now want to come to L.A. and play for the Rams.

3 more. This is his 5th year option and then they can tag him the next two seasons following that. Honestly if the Rams are smart they should do that lol

TE Lewis available

I'm sure nobody available in the 2nd round was McVay's first choice.
I wasnt aware the Everett wasnt our first choice! Interesting. I guess the only other one would be Engram? Suppose that makes sense.

Either way...I believe we are going to see more of Everett in his sophomore year and hope the plan is to use him as our TE play maker while supplementing him with blocking TE's. Higbee needs to be gifted a juggs.

To me, not a good time to reinvest in TE's. A decent argument has been made to the contrary but I saw a pretty stout offense last year even without elite TE performance. It makes me wonder why everyone is so convinced McVay values the TE so much if he did just fine without the extra production last year. Its plausible to me that McVay didnt create everyones TE opinions, and instead he just had great TE's in Washington. I mean, he didnt NEED them, they were just there so he used them well.

I'm not one drone on and on about lost or wasted draft picks, but I do know we traded into the Everett pick and as such we should focus on that investment. If we try to upgrade, then that kinda devalues the work in the draft last year. I dont think they are ready to do that yet.

Evan Engram was indeed the Rams' primary target in McVay's first draft. With regards to drafting another tight end devaluing the Rams' 2017 NFL draft a bit, I can see the argument for that but I don't think that necessarily applies. Like I said, I still think Gerald Everett can have a bright future for us, plus, the Rams' original pick in the second round was packaged along with their fifth-rounder for the Bills' picks in the second and third rounds, which were used to select Everett and John Johnson, respectively. That's not a bad consolation prize.

Even if we had drafted Engram, the team still would need another TE, particularly one that can block effectively. I agree with jrry32 in that I can see Dallas Goedert from South Dakota State being a possible target in the upcoming draft and good fit for the team. I also share the same concerns about workout wonder Mike Gesicki from Penn State not having an inclination to block despite having the physical tools and athleticism to be an all-around talent. Another TE prospect I personally like for our team is Ian Thomas from Indiana for his rugged approach. However, all of these prospects are likely to be selected during the first 2 days of the draft. Tyler Conklin from Central Michigan would be an intriguing pick in the sixth round if he's available and his injury concerns taken care of.

The reason why people like myself believe McVay prioritizes tight ends in his offense is based on Jordan Reed's success when the two were together in Washington and the fact that he apparently asked Snead to prioritize Engram in their first draft together. Even missing out on Engram, they still drafted a TE after trading down. Offering an injury-prone Tyler Eifert a contract this off-season also lends further support to this line of thinking. Those four instances in such a short span of time seem to be more than mere coincidence to me.

There were a couple options out there who could have potentially upgraded us at TE but they didn't happen. So at this point bringing in JAGs through FA is not any sort of answer.

TE is a need but it isn't a huge need. It was that position on offense where they could have upgraded things in FA without spending a pick. But now? Well, it's gonna have to get in line behind some other positions, like OL and multiple defensive positions.

They might very well snap one up if a fit presents itself with value for where they're picking. But I just hope it's not a first two days type deal.

I actually agree that we have more pressing needs than TE at the moment, which includes run defense as well as pass rushing along with our aging offensive line. Maybe the signing of Suh provides a big check mark on our checklist that will go a long way towards enabling the Rams to select best player available in the draft regardless of position, which would be more ideal.

Musician Prince dead at 57

Level of fentanyl in Prince was exceedingly high

MINNEAPOLIS — A toxicology report from Prince's autopsy, obtained Monday by The Associated Press, shows he had what multiple experts called an "exceedingly high" concentration of fentanyl in his body when he died.

Prince was 57 when he was found alone and unresponsive in an elevator at his Paisley Park estate on April 21, 2016. Public data released six weeks after his death showed he died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid 50 times more powerful than heroin.

A confidential toxicology report obtained by the AP provides some insight into just how much fentanyl was in his system. Experts who are not connected to the Prince investigation said the numbers leave no doubt that fentanyl killed him.

"The amount in his blood is exceedingly high, even for somebody who is a chronic pain patient on fentanyl patches," said Dr. Lewis Nelson, chairman of emergency medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. He called the fentanyl concentrations "a pretty clear smoking gun."

The report says the concentration of fentanyl in Prince's blood was 67.8 micrograms per liter. The report explains that fatalities have been documented in people with blood levels ranging from three to 58 micrograms per liter.

The report also says the level of fentanyl in Prince's liver was 450 micrograms per kilogram, and notes that liver concentrations greater than 69 micrograms per kilogram "seem to represent overdose or fatal toxicity cases."

There was also what experts called a potentially lethal amount of fentanyl in Prince's stomach. Dr. Charles McKay, president of the American College of Medical Toxicology, said generally speaking, the findings suggest Prince took the drug orally, while fentanyl in the blood and liver suggest it had some time to circulate before he died.

Experts say there is no "lethal level" at which fentanyl can kill. A person who takes prescription opioids for a long time builds up a tolerance, and a dose that could kill one person might help another.

Search warrants released about a year after Prince's death showed authorities found numerous pills in various containers around his home. A lab report obtained by the AP shows many of the pills tested positive for fentanyl and other drugs. Information that has been released publicly indicates the source of those drugs hasn't been determined.

Last week, the lead prosecutor in the county where Prince died said in a statement that he was reviewing law enforcement reports and would make a decision on whether to charge anyone "in the near future."

More Corners? Rams interested in Chandon Sullivan

Shields played 1 game in 2016, none in 2017. Lot of time to go without taking a hit or making a hit. Webster is coming off an achilles injury, not sure how far along he is in his recovery, may be limited at the start of camp. Hill was good last season, expecting more of the same. Certainly can see the Rams investing a 6th rounder in a CB, can stash on the practice squad if everything goes well with Shields & Webster.

LOL Whiner Fans are so delusional

I am not sure why all this niner hype is around.

Did I miss them pick up 10 high end free agents ?

Even my close friends have been telling me how good the niners will be next season . NEXT SEASON ?

yea they have Jimmy but who is he throwing to ?

Who' running the ball? Hyde is gone!

Who is on their defense ? Do people know that bowman is old and Willis retired?

This is getting very annoying ! Worst part is that our team is finally good and still gets no respect .

The 49ers? You have to be kidding me , please play them week 1 !
I hear ya... I hope we stomp a mud hole in their sorry asses week 1 so we can boost at least 6-7 weeks until we play them again. Going to be so sweet whenever it is we do!

Three Questions Regarding the Shehawks?

Hold on guys, I've managed to land the Seahawks in the ROD mock draft, I wouldn't count them out just yet, sometimes you've got to cut down some trees to see the woods - as @Merlin just said Wilson can win games all buy himself if needed, and he has several times.

Don't count out the Cards hitting rock bottom, they're hoping Sam will stay upright, we know how foolish that is...

... speaking of which we need three more Mock Draft participants before we can make a start.

2018 NFL Draft rankings: Everything to know about LBs

Off the top....Lorenzo Carter....OLB......and the ILB from Texas.....

If I could choose any...I'd get the dude at Va Tech (I'd grab his brother too)....and....probably still grab Carter...I think Carter is gonna be a steal.

I agree that Carter is going to be a better pro than collegiate player. Question really is what they think of Landry which means if he aced his background stuff and team interview he will need to be gone before the Rams consider Carter. Because he's more polished on the rush. But down the road... I am convinced Lorenzo Carter will be a force for some lucky team in this league, especially if he ends up under a staff like ours.

WRT the ILB position... I don't see Malik being considered unless both Vander Esch and Evans are off the board. Both are much better than him, there's a lot of dropoff to my eye at least. But if the Rams move down then yeah he should be right there with a lot of other guys who would be need/value fits.

Quentin Nelson makes me laugh.

As an ND die hard fan, I have to laugh. I've been waiting for years to see this "dominant" combo of McGlinchey and Nelson put it together. Sure they opened some holes you could drive a truck thru vs the Navy's of the world, but against big boys like Georgia and the U, they got their lunch handed to them. I used to think Mustipher was gonna be good, but he seemed to regress this year too.
Of course all to be taken with a grain of salt as I wasn't a fan of Zach Martin either....

Peter King: MMQB - 3/26/18

I think the flagrant ones should be spot fouls.

And for anyone concerned that CBs will do ticky tack fouls to prevent a pass break-up, they do it now anyway.

The rule for identifying ticky tack fouls will be the hard rule to define.
I think its 2 issues. I would rather get the PI rule in and circle back to the flagrant fouls if they become an issue. I think trying to add both facets may prevent the change at all.

Tavon Tavon Tavon

In 1972 the reigning “Queen” of England, Sir Elton John, released Tiny Dancer and Rocketman. Both remind me of Tavon. Let’s hope this year Tavon gives us more of the latter than the former. I am not a big fan of his egotistical high stepping east-west dance routine as he runs out of bounds and then struts like he just made the play of the century.
