Here's how all the QB movement will shake out this offseason

I think the Rams need a decent vet backup - but they also need to start developing a QB3 who can be the main backup in 2020. It's just too important to have an affordable guy you can actually have faith in to fill in at QB. I'd hate using a third - but I think that it is necessary to solve the problem going forward. I have faith in McVay developing the right guy. I have zero faith in Mannion.
I think this is a good idea if implemented correctly. The Rams need to sign a veteran backup QB (Tyrod Taylor, Bortles, or Fitzpatrick types). I don’t think the Rams should force the drafting of a developmental QB. Sign the veteran backup to a 2 or 3 year deal, and then wait until the right guy is able to be drafted. I think a veteran backup QB capable of keeping the Rams competitive if Goff got hurt is a higher priority though.

Not over it yet

We need to be better than the Saints and their sorry @$$ fans and realize that calls always go against you in the playoffs. Sometimes they're big ones too, them's the breaks. I'm with @Dog in that we lost this one fair and square.

Key for us is fixing our run game potency on offense (critical for playoffs to be able to dictate on the ground), and finish the defensive overhaul. Wade did a great job with a lot of subpar pieces on defense, it's time to load up that unit and win a few Super Bowls.

NFL opening night 2019

That sounds good on the surface but it could lead to weak teams beating up on other weak teams and having a team or more reaching the playoffs because of an easy schedule.

Conversely some very good teams may come up a bit short.
That is 1 of the counter arguments that I alluded to. There can be very little between a 2nd place finish and a 4th place finish in a division so it could potentially be very unfair on some teams. I'll save my views on the playoffs for another thread. The bottom line is that present the 64 inter-conference games produce very few potential prime time match-ups. If the 4 division winners played the other 4 division winners you'd have 16 potential prime time games to start with. That makes for better tv and better tv increases NFL income.

Jared Goff Article from Mike Silver - Great Read

It doesn't matter. We need to overcome the refs. We could have and failed to do that.

I would agree. Trying to be as objective as I can, when watching the game I never got the feeling the Rams were better. It just had to overall feel that the other team was better. Even though we were tied in the second half, I felt we were outplayed during the game and probably fortunate we weren't trailing.

I know the holding on Sullivan was a bad call. But would that mean we woulda won? The way we were playing on offense I have my doubts. Rams got beat because they played poorly on offense. Pretty simple explanation. And I doubt we'd get any sympathy if people tried to make ref mistakes an issue.

ESPN: The odyssey of Samson Ebukam

I look for our starting weakside OLB'er Samson Ebukam to offer up steady improvement in his overall performance as time moves on. I see a lot of out of positioning, being blocked & being washed out plus wasted movements in his game but I also see his true outstanding athletic abilities & speed & quickness to burn. I believe SB play will trend upward this 3rd season (2nd as a starter).

Some other thoughts on him are....SB played close to DT Aaron Donald & ILB'er Mark Barron, where the play of both of these defenders worked against SB in 2018. Barron had a poor overall 2018 season. There were times when Barron play caused SB to cover & range out of position more than ideal. Many here made comments on Barron's late-season improvement (including me) & forget just how bad Barron played overall this season. AD has a tendency to move to his left often @ the snap once again making more open space on SB side.

IF Cory Littleton takes over the weakside ILB'ing post (which is the perfect post for him to play with his skills)& ends up playing closer to SB I believe we will get improvement from that defensive post. With Cory playing the weakside interior & SB playing the weakside exterior post, the Rams will get improvement in 2 defensive positions in 2019.

For Belichick it must have been Deja Vu all over again

In SB36, the Rams had all the experience and look how that worked out. I don't think experience, over the history of super bowls, seems to be an area that has much of an affect on a game.

I agree about players but not about head coaches. Besides in SB36 that was simple theft. Nothing could be done about that from a player. In SB53 Cooks was one of the 4 Rams with Super Bowl experience and he still had a couple crucial missed catches. BTW I am not blaming Cooks. Nor am I blaming McVay.

How does McVay fix this?

I still have a huge issue bugging me.
I try to get over it... but I can't.

Its not about McVay or the Super Bowl.

Its this thread.

Seriously?
Did McVays success go to our heads? Lol... ffs. The guy is 33 and is already one of the most respected coaches in the league.

Good coaches get beat. Even great ones. Especially young ones.

Like if we lost against NO, this thread doesn't even exist.

I am NOT AT ALL embarrassed about the Super Bowl, never was and I am nothing but thankful that Coach McVay is our coach and that he brought us all the way to the biggest game so fast.

I will take 5 more seasons just like this one before I even want to entertain the idea that there is such a thing as "a bad super bowl".

Sorry. I'm done ranting.[/QUOTE

I remember the Tony Banks and Dieter Brock days and all I wanted was for my team was to not be horrible, then McVay happened and this team is actually not horrible, not only that but they’re good, really good. So why can’t they be great? Why can’t they win it all?
I’m not bad mouthing the team or anybody on it, we’ve seen what it’s like on the other side and I hope we never go back there. If we can get to a SB we can win a SB but it’s not gonna happen if we don’t play better against teams like the bears, Eagles and Pats. McVay is the offensive genius and the offense got shut down, so how does he fix it?

Finally watched the full SB

To me it was all about Gurley, I somehow allowed myself to believe he was primed for a huge game while ignoring the obvious - had Todd Gurley been the real Todd Gurley I’m guessing that would have mattered, but alas it wasn’t to be.

Goff played well as he could considering his top two threats (one was out the other incognito) were taken away, nah I for one think the kid accounted well, Bravo to @jrry32 for pointing what...should have been the obvious

After making impact play in Super Bowl LIII, Franklin-Myers looking to improve for 2019 season

If he stays healthy and improves his technique I think JFM will have a big 2nd season for us. Just leave him at the 5tech and stop trying to use him as an OLB
I agree. I think that when we start getting information & reports early in TC this summer, JF-M will have completely outgrown all his OLB'er uniforms. I expect him to come in a beefed & cut 295-300 lb range. Ready to be the complete DL for Wade. JF-M will be our starting 5 tech DE in 2019 if he remains healthy. I like this big kid a lot. Great 4th round selection by Snead.

JFM also lets Wade keep Brockers as the main starting NT thus earning that big $11 million cap hit. Otherwise, if Demoff & Snead are you looking for some cap relief then having two DL'ers like JFM & MB playing the same position is a waste of $$$. MB might end up a cut.

Do the RAMS have more than one helmet ?

They wear blue with white horns and also blue with gold horns ? Are they two separate helmets or the same one just with a different skin ?

If they do have more than one helmet, how does that play with the NFL’s “one helmet rule” ?

Looking forward to some answers.

I should hope so... the Rams have enough money for everyone to have one...

With their 2018 season over, it's time for Rams fans to turn their attention to the draft

The Rams have quickly built a perennial contender thanks to an explosive, well-rounded offense and a defense that can both make big plays and be plagued by inconsistency. If they're going to get better in 2019, several areas of the defense will have to be addressed around Aaron Donald.

Here's what you need to know about the Los Angeles Rams and the 2019 NFL Draft.

2019 draft picks
  • Round 1: L.A. Rams
  • Round 2: None
  • Round 3: None
  • Round 4: L.A. Rams
  • Round 5: L.A. Rams
  • Round 6: L.A. Rams
  • Round 7: None
The Rams already spent two of their first three picks upgrading the defense, sending their second-rounder to the Chiefs as part of the Marcus Peters deal and their third-rounder to the Jaguars in the Dante Fowler deal. The seventh-rounder is also missing as a result of packaging it with Alec Ogletree in a trade with the Giants.

Biggest offseason needs
  • Outside linebacker
  • Safety
  • Inside linebacker
  • Guard
  • Defensive tackle
The Rams brought in Dante Fowler to help paper over their issues at edge rusher, but he's heading into free agency and the team must find an impact player to start opposite Samson Ebukam. Lamarcus Joyner is also a free agent, so the Rams must either bring him back or find someone else to start at free safety. Mark Barron's price tag has outpaced his production, and even if he's retained, another quality starter is needed inside at linebacker. Ndamukong Suh was signed to just a one-year deal, so he'll either have to be retained or the Rams will need to find a third starter on the line next to Aaron Donald and Michael Brockers.

The Rams already cut bait with Jamon Brown and will now see Rodger Saffold enter free agency, making guard the one spot on offense that must be addressed with starting-caliber players this offseason.

Trapasso's prospects to watch
Oshane Ximines, EDGE, Old Dominion

Ximines is easily one of the most polished pass-rushers in the class, with a dizzying array of maneuvers to beat offensive linemen at the point of attack and the ever-important ability to convert speed to power on his bull rush. He'd be an ideal stand-up outside linebacker in Wade Phillips' scheme.

Juan Thornhill, S, Virginia

A former cornerback, Thornhill made a smooth transition to safety in 2018 and reeled in six interceptions after making four picks in 2017. At 6-foot and slightly above 210 pounds, he checks the measureables box and is a fluid athlete capable of quickly changing directions and exploding to the football. Clearly, Thornhill has above-average ball skills too.

Ben Burr-Kirven, LB, Washington

To some, Burr-Kirven will be undersized at 6-foot and around 225 pounds. But he's lightning quick, has rapid play-recognition ability, is a mature block-shedder, and can make plays in coverage because of his movement capabilities. He'd be a fun, athletic fit behind Los Angeles' stellar defensive line.

I'm sorry for being over confident and I tip my hat to the Pats.

Man, don’t apologize. I predicted a Rams Super Bowl win before the season and still thought we could win late into the game yesterday. Screw the Saints, we beat them and they did not deserve anything.

Same. Saw a post where I said we'd win the Super Bowl in April.

This is why they play the games.

Coach B coached one of the best games of his career and McVay seemed to ignore the numbers in a way that is totally uncharacteristic for him.

Plus, this Super Bowl had the weirdest vibe... crappiest half time show, ever... and this...I dunno... just strange feeling about the whole thing.

We had a fantastic season. We had big ups and some downs and over all, it was a very memorable, enjoyable season.

Only one teams wins every year and we sure came close. We weren't blown out and arguably we were missing our two best offensive weapons to win close games in Gurley and Kupp.

I'm simply celebrating this past season and hoping the FA season sees us improve as we enter the draft with the #31 pick.
