Philip Rivers 'permanently' moves out of San Diego, signaling possible split with Chargers

Report: Chargers have ‘moved on’ from Philip Rivers

It appears that Philip Rivers’ time with the Chargers organization is coming to an end.

In an appearance on “The Herd” on Monday, FOX Sports reporter Jay Glazer said that the Los Angeles Chargers have “moved on” from Rivers and will be looking for a new quarterback.

If true, Rivers will have to plot his next move. He has made it very clear that he intends to keep playing, even if not with the Chargers. He will likely receive interest, perhaps from an NFC team with an unsettled quarterback situation.

Rivers turned 38 in December. He’s coming off a season that saw him throw for 4,615 yards and 23 touchdowns, but also 20 interceptions.

As for the Chargers, they could be willing to make a huge splash if some other things develop favorably in the market. Their situation will certainly bear watching.

Revisiting the Patrick Mahomes draft-day trade

.

shit teams always stay shit.

why on earth were the bills and browns trading down when a highly rated qb fell into their laps? idiots.

.

To be fair, Mahomes as a draft prospect was quite raw at the time, he had a habit of throwing out of his back foot. Say what you will about Reid and his postseason ineptitude but his resume on developing QBs is astounding (see McNabb, Feeley, Kolb, and now Mahomes); idk how Mahomes would fare out if he landed in Chicago under John Fox.

Memento's 2020 Absolutely No Trades Mock Offseason.

That may be true about the early pay increases. Not sure if Ramsey would buy it, though.

Littleton is going to get the same amount of money as Kwon Alexander, probably more, since he doesn't have the injury concerns Alexander had. We can't realistically pay that, as well as Ramsey, Kupp, and JJ3.

We've got plenty of solid cornerbacks who can play the slot (Long and Darious Williams come to mind), and there's always Troy Hill.

Fair enough on Tree. Adams, like I said, is polarizing. He's had numerous severe injuries, and this latest one at the Senior Bowl could torpedo his stock. I feel for the kid, but honestly, I wouldn't draft him in that range.

Very much true. I'll make sure to bump the cost up realistically in the next mock.

I'll also make sure to bump up the cost on JJ3, as well as Coop. :p

Good to see that great minds think alike (with Muti, that is)! :D

I'd normally draft an inside linebacker (Justin Strnad of Wake Forest, in particular, is a favorite of mine), but I figured that Tree could provide at one spot, and there'd be competition for the other. And I don't trust Troy Hill's consistency. Granted, there's guys behind him, but I still feel like Arnette is a solid pick.

Yep, I'm a huge fan of Olonilua. One thing that I didn't mention is that he's actually an asset in the passing game. He's never going to be confused with Faulk, but he's a good blocker and receiver. If he has his legal issues sorted out (which I believe he does), he's going to be special.

True about Arnette. I wouldn't have touched him a year ago. It's funny how things can change in a year.

...Am I the only one who likes Tree, though? :D

Nope I'm on board with Ogletree (for the price you have in this mock). The assumption on how it would play out is he parts with the Giants and nobody offers him what he's looking for. Rams end up the best option.

At that cost we wouldn't be forced into starting him, and could probably even cut him depending on the structure if we end up liking the youngsters at the position. I think it's a great solution to an impossible problem and I hadn't thought of it (impossible meaning, we can't spend a lot of money on the position and at the same time, it'd be tough to spend our 2nd rounder on the position - Tree would help alleviate some of that.

Larry Walker finally makes the Hall!

If they are putting in Larry Walker, they may as well let the steroid guys in. Coors Field is Walkers HGH. He’s not in the conversation if he doesn’t play in that silly ball park
Nonsense. BTW why don't you subtract all the 190 ft. homers hit in Fenway Park? Certainly pop outs for homers inflate the stats of the AL hitters!:p

I posted this when his name was announced in November.

Walker clearly belongs in the HOF. Lifetime .313 batter, league MVP and over 2000 hits. He provided the extra late season pop in a Cardinals lineup that went on to win 105 games and the LCS. He was also gold that year in the playoffs. From wikipedia-

"In three playoff rounds in 2004, Walker combined to hit .293/.379/.707 with a pair of home runs in each tournament,[5] setting a franchise record for home runs hit by a left-handed batter in one postseason.[112] Walker made his playoff debut with the Cardinals in Game 1 of the NLDS versus the Dodgers, homering twice and scoring four runs in an 8−3 Cardinals win.[113] He became the first Cardinal with a multi-home run game in LDS play. In Game 1 of the National League Championship Series(NLCS) versus the Houston Astros, he was a home run short of hitting for the cycle.

St. Louis advanced to the World Series to face the Boston Red Sox − the first and only of Walker's playing career. In his debut, he collected four hits in five at bats with a home run and two doubles.[114] His four-hit outing tied a Cardinals World Series record, becoming the seventh overall and first to so since Lou Brock in 1967.[17] Boston won the Series by sweeping St. Louis.[5] The Cardinals struggled to hit, batting .190 with a .562 OPS, while Walker batted .357 with a 1.366 OPS. His two home runs accounted for the only two hit by the entire Cardinals team.[115] In the 2004 postseason, Walker scored 21 percent (14 of 68) of Cardinals runs."

Rival right fielder and longtime San Diego Padre Tony Gwynn epitomized Walker as "the most complete player in the National League," and "best baserunner in the game" in a 2002 profile for ESPN. He observed that, in addition to his obvious athletic gifts, Walker approaches the game very cerebrally and is always thinking ahead, unearthing a wide array of advantages that he applied to the game.[53]

Tony Gwynn is a great reference.(y)

8to12 Offseason Mock 1.0

Again this is an Offensive Tackle Rich Draft and I like to come away with at least one Offensive Tackle...Also, why would the Texans make that deal for Gurley? I don't think they would quite frankly and I believe the only way a team takes Gurley is if the Rams include a draft choice, like they did with Talib.

BTW, what about Kicker, do the Rams resign Greg Zuerlein or not? You did not include that....Love Andrus Peat, he would be a great signing again I'm a huge fan of Cesar Ruiz and the trade scenarios could work, if those teams truly want to trade up and I like many of the selections too.
I didn't realize I left him out. Thank you for catching my error. It was my intention to resign him.

Teenager's petition to move Super Bowl to Saturday has over 30K signatures

Teenager's petition to move Super Bowl to Saturday has over 30K signatures

The Super Bowl has always taken place on a Sunday, but a New York teen is attempting to change that. Frankie Ruggeri, 16, has started a petition on Change.org to get the Super Bowl moved to Saturday going forward.

People are certainly getting behind the idea, as the petition has more than 30,000 signatures.

Ruggeri believes that more fans will be able to watch the Super Bowl if it is moved to Saturday. The teen also brings up the point on that petition page that people have to go to work and school on Monday, which means some younger children can't watch the game in its entirety.

A 2019 survey from the Workforce Institute predicted that a record 17.2 million people will call out of work following Super Bowl LIV, so he might be on to something.

The 16-year old got the wheels turning on his big idea when he was speaking about the NFL playoffs with his family recently.

"He has a lot of passion in his heart," Frank Ruggeri told CNN about his son. "When he gets on one thing, he really sticks with it."

The petition isn't stopping Ruggeri from staying up to watch the big game. Ruggeri, who is a fan of the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams, will be watching and rooting for the San Francisco 49ers when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Super Bowl has been historically linked to being on Sunday, so it would certainly be interesting to see if more people continue to get on board with Ruggeri's idea.

RB coach Skip Peete relieved of duties

He's in demand and it appears that McVay is looking at the collegiate level for this hire, I wonder if he's doing the same for the Defensive Coordinator?

doesn’t look like the interviewed any of these coaches ? Skip Peete might go back to Dallas Which would be funny with Bones there. The Rams lost Fisch today as QB coach.
I find the RB postion interesting. Wonder what happens there. Snead has not big on drafting RB’s . Then again they have the last 2 years. So maybe it’s more of a thought than an actual reality.
My biggest question is what happens with Gurley ?

Patrick Mahomes greatest QB of all time?

That was my point exactly, I did that on purpose.People wanna say Mahomes is all scheme and all weapons but say the exact opposite of Goff. And Gurley seasons highs was because of Gurley Goff best years was because the offense ran through Gurley we tried to run the offense through Goff this year with mixed results to say the least. While Woods did set career highs the potential was always there he was just on a shitty run first team and cooks was a proven commodity. I just think Goff is more Scheme dependent than Mahomes
Cant have it both ways man.
Neither guy is product of their scheme, and while they've both raised the talent level on their teams, they are blessed with having extremely talented skill position players to work with. Still and all, they make them better.
Woods was heavily outperformed by Watkins in Buffalo under same set of circumstances. Now Woods is outperforming Watkins thanks to Goff. Cooks had his career high in YPG, and best career catch rate over 100 targets, and Gurley as a receiving threat crushed his career numbers.
Likewise, Kelce and Hill were great players already in KC and have ascended to higher levels with Mahomes.

Daily Dose: stadium update, notes

Daily Dose: Improvement past and present

Throughout the offseason, theRams.com will be taking a look around the internet for the top Rams headlines of the day. Here's a look at what's out there for Thursday, January 23 about your Los Angeles Rams.

STADIUM, TEAM CONTINUE CONSTRUCTION IN 2020

SoFi Stadium is more than 85 percent complete. As it makes progress, so are the Rams in putting together a product on the field that more closely resembles the success shown in 2018. .

When it comes to achieving just that, ESPN's Alden Gonzalez wrote about how Los Angeles won't be taking shortcuts to do so.

"After the Super Bowl, in which the San Francisco 49ers, a Rams' division rival, will meet the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 2, Los Angeles will shift its focus toward the 2020 season and an attempt to recapture some of that 2018 magic," Gonzalez wrote. "Rams execs want to open the new stadium with a team befitting its opulence, but they vow not to do so with shortsighted moves that will hinder the organization's future.Rams execs want to open the new stadium with a team befitting its opulence, but they vow not to do so with shortsighted moves that will hinder the organization's future."

Meanwhile, the stadium itself remains on schedule for its July 2020 completion.

"The leaders of the 3,500 workers feverishly building SoFi Stadium south of downtown Los Angeles say everything is on schedule at SoFi Stadium despite its dusty appearance," wrote Greg Beacham of the Associated Press. "The builders say the stadium is 85% complete, but the finishing touches will take up much of the construction horde's remaining time before late July."

THE MOST UNLIKELY SUPER BOWL TEAM IN NFL HISTORY

ESPN's Bill Barnwell ranked the most unlikely Super Bowl teams ever. No. 1 on his list?

The 1999 St. Louis Rams.

The Rams went 13-3 that year following a 4-12 season in 1999. Here's what led to their improvement, according to Barnwell:

"Even the 49ers would be amazed at how quickly the Rams turned things around. The other teams on this list improved their Pythagorean expectation by a number between 4.7 and 6.0 wins. The Rams improved by 8.4 wins, and they did so despite losing their starting quarterback to a torn ACL in the preseason. The 49ers were 40-1 to win the Super Bowl before the 2019 season. The 1999 Rams were 150-1. They ranked 25th in ESPN's preseason power rankings. Nobody saw the Rams coming."
The Rams on some Las Vegas boards were 200-1 on July 4th.
