MNF: Seahawks at Eagles

Went O line is the most banged up of any this year. Like the Rams line last year. Wentz WR’s are also banged up and or left in free agency. He also has Ertz missing. Wentz is also physically broken due to his Running QB injuries.

But yea other than that it’s all on Wentz.

I read a tweet last night the Eagles took JJ Arcea Whiteside over DK Metcalf and Jalen Reagor over Justin Jefferson in back to back years. Hindsight is 20/20 of course, but yeesh. At least the Rams were able to get a contributing player with Taylor Rapp.

To be fair Jalen might have a shot to be a good player but JJAW is no bueno.

The Goff Thread

This topic is spinning in circles and needs a break. It will be reopened, but it’s not going to be an open vent thread.

ROD is a fan site. A site for fans of the team, which implies love, which implies we need to be done venting.

When I read a thread and see members taking jabs out of frustration toward each other, that’s not fun to read... and that’s a sign we have a thread that doesn’t fit our culture as a whole.

I always tell people to read past a thread, skip it, if you don’t like like the topic.

But this one feels different. There has been good discussion here. But timeout for a breather.

NFL Covid Stuff

Ravens-Steelers game moved to Wednesday

Due to continued COVID-19 concerns, the Baltimore Ravens-Pittsburgh Steelers football game has been moved to 3:40 p.m. ET Wednesday on NBC.

With the rescheduling, two other games have likewise been moved as the Steelers will host the Washington Football Team on Monday at 5 p.m. ET in the teams' Week 13 contest, which was originally slated for Sunday, while the Ravens will host the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 8:05 p.m. ET on FOX/NFL Network/Amazon in a game that was first planned for Thursday. The Washington-Pittsburgh game's broadcast arrangement is to be announced at a later time.

This is the third time the Ravens-Steelers game -- originally scheduled for Thanksgiving night -- has been moved. Originally slated to be played on Thanksgiving night, it was postponed until Sunday and then moved a second time to Tuesday.

Ravens players recently conducted a players-only meeting in which they expressed concerns regarding playing on Tuesday as they've been adamant about wanting a day to practice, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported. Rapoport added that other notes to come from the meeting were that the Ravens want to play, but health and safety must come first. One source said: "Can't we have at least two days of negative tests after this outbreak before we are expected to get back on the field?"

The Ravens' facility is set to reopen Monday night with a walkthrough scheduled and a plan to practice on Tuesday before flying to Pittsburgh, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported.

On Monday, the Ravens activated four players from the reserve/COVID-19 list, but also placed four players on the list.

Tight end Mark Andrews , outside linebacker Matt Judon and receiver Willie Snead were placed on the list Monday, along with cornerback Terrell Bonds, though Bonds was previously on season-ending injured reserve. While those four were added, outside linebacker Jaylon Ferguson, guard D.J. Fluker and defensive linemen Broderick Washington and Iman Marshall were activated off the list.

Since the Ravens' Week 11 game when Baltimore last competed, 21 Ravens have been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list and 19 are currently on it.

The Week 12 match-up between AFC North rivals was first moved from the prime-time Thanksgiving slot to Sunday at 1:15 p.m. because of Baltimore's COVID-19 issues. With that situation still lingering, the NFL once more moved the game to a Tuesday slot, which was similar to a rescheduling for Buffalo-Tennessee in October because of a separate COVID-19 situation involving the Titans.

Thoughts on the bootleg/rollout

I think you just summarized it nicely. He lost his security blanket at LT, the loss of Whit was huge. From here on out it's about survival in the standings to get in the playoffs and hopefully get Whit back. That's where we're at IMO.

If we don't get Whit back we're cooked.

I don’t think fans are asking for it on every play. But 4 times in an entire game is not much especially when Goff is better rolling out than any QB in the league. I’d like to see it a few more times a game. I also think it’s necessary to back pressure off the line.

I also think the loss of Cooks speed is hindering the offense. It allows more defenders to play intermediate and closer causing more confusion for Goff.

I also think we’ve seen Goff at his very best when he had all day to throw through most of 2018. This current line who many here have hailed as being very good cannot give him that kind of time. It’s deceiving how improvement can look like greatness, when it follows very poor Oline play from a season before. This problem, this Goff problem won’t be fixed unless they can find a few studs on the Oline.

49ers at Rams Vent Thread.... Have at it

I made the mistake of responding to Deebo Samuels' tweet where he posted the gif of AD slamming his helmet down and added the crying tears emoji.

Holy Shit.

Fucking emo 9er fans jumped up as if Deebo were a damsel in distress.

Worse, they were really buying into this thing that AD saying "who" about Deebo Samuel was "starting beef".

I'm like... y'all need some perspective on life.

We livin in 2020 and the biggest thing to you is AD not knowing your 2nd year receiver?

Fucking wow.

EDIT BY MODERATOR: THREAD LOCKED - 24hr Rule.

Time to move on to Arizona.

Happy Thanksgiving

Turkey - Donald. Lots of great players on this team, but he’s the main course.

Stuffing - Goff. Everyone’s stuffing tastes unique, but we all make it. The variety is what you get with Goff... his game isn’t one trick. And when you get good stuffing, you can’t get enough.

Sweet Potatoes - Woods comes to mind, and now that you get the player to dish match up concept I bet when thinking sweet potatoes I wasn’t the only one to think Woods first. His game is sweet and there is a richness to Woods playing style that is deep and satisfying.

Mashed potatoes - Brockers and Havenstein. Two players for two helpings of a dinnertime staple. Potatoes. Mashed. Got to have them. All purpose goodness. That’s these tackles.

Gravy - Fuller. What a find. For a 6th round pick, yeah all gravy.

Pumpkin Pie - Ramsey. A combination of sweet and spicy. That’s Ramsey.

Any other side dishes.....?

Green Bean casserole- Darious Williams. A pleasant surprise at how good it unexpectedly is

My stupid questions

I've thanked you for your input, but now I feel the need to dig deeper into your answers. My dig in is specific to the Bucs/Rams game.

4. Thank you for your clarity about the refs not wanting attention to a clearly subjective rule they are unwilling to enforce to the letter of the law that is written. To this point, I strongly suggest courage over expediency.

When Evans pushed down on Ramsey's head, it was a clear violation but one not likely to be overturned. When Evans pushed off Ramsey from a low position, there's a chance (though unlikely) that both players could've been flagged resulting in a do-over. I get the conundrum. There will never be perfect officiating but that doesn't mean they should shrink from doing the right thing.

3. I'm asking again for you to re-post your response to something I'm truly upset about. If a defender turns his back to to ball carrier by geometry, a blocker should not be flagged for doing his job.

Total judgment call by the refs. In the past, they've seen guys who turn around expressly to draw the foul and they don't throw the flag or pick it up because the player, by stopping, is disengaging from the play and as they are not attempting to make a play, it's ruled incidental contact and no foul. However, there are times when a guy is just good at drawing the foul and the refs feel in that instant that it met the definition, if not the spirit and throw the flag.

There's good and bad aspects to this. Calling fouls explicitly removes much of the subjectivity and involves a "letter of the law" approach which might obviate some bias, but also allows for exploitation of loopholes or results in unintended consequences.

Calling fouls implicitly means discerning context. Did the guy try to draw the foul? Is it incidental contact due to the player disengaging from the play? This approach helps to remove the exploitation and loopholes, but introduces bias.

There's no good answer.

5. If NY has the authority to review PF's, then what triggers their response and why can't that trigger come from a challenge. Again, the inconsistency is maddening.

It's not all personal fouls. It's explicitly referring to disqualifying offenses like throwing punches or specifically trying to injure another player.

7. Was this rule in place in the NFC Championship game with the Rams v Saints? I ask because in 56 years, I've never witnessed a team suffer from the inability to even hear something one foot away like that game. And I personally heard piped in music and noise OVER the crowd. That game was the impetus of my question.

That game was record loud, but I highly doubt that happened b/c the Saints were one of the teams the league put on notice to STOP pumping in crowd noise. It was just stupid loud... Music, yes, but crowd noise? no. And the league checks.

(FWIW), Goff overcoming that and many other issues that day renders all arguments that he isn't a clutch, money, tough. F'ing stud, moot.

Agree.

Your Santa story.

I grew up pretty poor. Both parents were deaf. My mother had MS and never worked. My father worked at a dry cleaner pressing clothes for not much more than minimum wage. He did that same job for 40 years. Hiring handicap wasn't politically correct back then.

Anyway, for about 5 years in a row, every Christmas morning we'd hear a knock on the door. I opened the door and saw this car speeding off. Looked like a Mustang. No one I knew had a car like that. On the porch there was this big box with a turkey in it. There were other things like stuffing, potatoes, stuff for dessert. I remember there was always Jiffy Pop in the box.

To this day I have no idea who the people were but we appreciated having a nice Christmas dinner. The usual plan was for something with ground beef and lemon meringue pie. Growing up, those were the only years I ever had turkey for the holidays. Chicken and dumplings were our normal Thanksgiving dinner. So Christmas dinner was always special for those 5 years.
Chicken and dumplings for Christmas is one of our traditions too. I need my dad to show me how to make them do I can do it for my family and take that burden off of him.

GMFB - Los Angeles Rams are the best team in NFC West?

I think it's accurate. Hodge was a good example of this. Prior to McVay what Fish would do is tell those bottom roster guys "time for you to win your jobs" with the team focus and the guys who shined would be on the roster.

McVay's a great coach. But he's young and needs to learn some lessons just like any other HC.
I give you an example of an example of a player we know Bones hand picked and you throw an undrafted free agent back at me? Here ya go in case you forgot how much Bones wanted the guy.

Never use more than a stick imho.

I love a good sweet potato casserole. That usually contains brown sugar and marshmallows baked into the casserole. Absolutely delicious, and it's good for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
