The McVay thread

I think it's easy to understand if you consider the context. If they were going to run a quick play and pass, McVay likely wanted to wait until afterwards in hopes we could force an incompletion. But the 49ers slowed it down and had a favorable running matchup. As I noted earlier, after the TO, we came out with personnel to defend the run. Seems clear to me that McVay recognized that SF was going to try and run the ball to kill clock and get the first. He then decided to call a TO in hopes we could stuff the run, use our remaining TOs, and try to get the ball back.

he definitely wasn't gonna do it before that. it was a strange time to take a timeout when they were 2nd and short. that's not a battle you will win too often.

so it must have been what you're talking about.

Steelers undefeated: Here's a look at the other 12 teams that started 11-0 in Super Bowl era

The refs always help the Stealers, they sure are a darling team of the NFL. Ask any Ravens fan about that.

I find both Steelers and Ravens to get all the calls but I might be biase when it come to the Ravens. In a sport where every plays and every inches matter, the refs playing favorite is pretty devastating.

Good News. AD speaking up on holding. Hopefully NFL takes action.

C'mon man. Wussel and Brady were pissing in their pants when they saw AD coming towards them and threw the ball early on many occasions, leading to incompletions. And he freed up other guys to make plays. He played great in those two games.

.
I agree he always plays well. She just seemed to have some extra sauce/success against the 69ers. It was his occasional A++ game vs his A/A+ game.

Wednesday Afternoon Football: Ravens at Steelers

  • NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala and Mike Garafolo report OLB Bud Dupree tore his ACL.
Dupree was rushing the passer in the fourth quarter of Week 12's Wednesday action when his knee buckled. It was evident this was a serious injury immediately as he moved gingerly to the locker room. This report surfaced just an hour after it happened. Dupree will miss the rest of 2020 and is questionable for Week 1 of 2021. After playing 2020 on the franchise tag, Dupree is set for free agency this offseason. It's unfortunate timing.

GDT: 49’ers at Rams

Did THE RAMS give SF Life to win a SuperBowl?

What I know is the 9ers have a lot of
talent. This team went to the SuperBowl & when healthy is top’s in the division.

The Rams have a chance to still win The SuperBowl, but if the 9ers catch fire it got ignited by The Rams give the game away.

What hurts against Miami & SF The Rams are by far the better team. They have to win those games.

Fisher lost almost all of the must wins games.

Andy Benoit breaks down Rams defensive front

These are things that we didn't see from Staley early in the season. Overall Staley has stepped up his schemes and play calls and I have little criticism except how he backed off at the end of the game last Sunday. People tend to be stat driven in their assessments of players, but when you actually break their play down they are oftentimes doing much better than it would appear.

This is why when people question the play of guys like Floyd not being extended I'm shaking my head. He replaced Fowler for a reason, and that being versatility. Fowler is strictly a hand in the dirt 4-3 DE and that's it. Floyd can do it all.

I'm really very pleasantly surprised at the play of Fox. What his emergence shows is that how a player is used really makes a difference on how he plays. Fox is having a breakout year under Staley. Ebukam struggled early but is beginning to come on with his play. As I eluded to in prior posts, his whole career was being developed as a SAM LB in the 3-4 hybrid scheme. Now he's playing as a second JACK LB opposite Floyd. That has taken an adjustment to learn a new position with new techniques. Ebukam is now beginning to show his acclimation to the new position.

It's going to make some hard decisions by the FO on their priorities regarding extensions. Ebukam and Fox among others are showing their value in this system. These are good things, have no doubts. We have seen this is a defense with the talent to dominate in games. If not for the turnovers they would have won last week handily. Again, the Ram's biggest threat this season is themselves. They play a clean game, i.e. no turnovers or key penalties and there is no team they can't beat.

I love watching Whitworth on Colins show. Actually think they compliment each other very well!

Maybe after he’s done he wants to be a co host on this show? I could see that and the formula does work in the past to great success! Wouldn’t be surprised if Fox had this on the back burner one bit.

If you are the Jets

I dont think the Jets scenario is as bad as Darnold makes it look. They do need a legit HC, lord knows if that idiot management team can pick one. But with the Giants terrible also, its a great spot to be in. I agree with @den-the-coach that Lawrence would be the toast of NYC. They have a decent WR crew, a second 1st round pick and a monster of an OLT. Like we saw with the Rams, the right guy could flip the switch and make it happen.
Of course we've also seen from Rams of yesteryear, the wrong guy could aspire for merely 7-9 bullcrap
I know just the guy...he’s likely FISH “ER’ ING these days
