Checking in on the Rams' 2020 draft class after Buc game

Yeah Rapp is going to be interesting. Not sure what they're going to do there.
Imho Rapp plays bigger than he is and like I posted beforehand, dude is going to get injured.

He tackles like A MoFo, he's a Beast,SS a LBer position yeap but in coverage I think he's weak,Jmho.

Merlin Thanks for all your post breakdowns etc etc.

Have a Very Very Good Holiday.

Vegas Super Bowl odds after Monday Night

The owner of the Jags isn't a bad guy, he just didn't get good front office personnel.
I don't think any of us really know this. But bad guy/good guy, it's on him to choose his personnel at least at the highest levels. That organization has been a total shit show since he took over. I am SOOOOOOOOO glad he didn't take over our team. It would have been like piling on of the showgirl and clown show days of Georgia/Shaw/Ziggy.

This is the Way..

With my unbiased calculated predictions I was able to determine the exact standings and playoff seedings for 2020.

With our old friend "NFL Playoff Machine Simulator", We now have an exact representation of how things are about to go down.

In this infallible model our path to the Super Bowl goes as follows:

Wildcard - Rams beat Arizona
Divisional - Rams beat Seattle
Championship - Rams beat New Orleans
Super Bowl - Rams beat Chiefs 55-51

20 Random 7-3 and Quite a D Thoughts

1. NOT THIS TIME, TOMMY!!!!

2. JARED GOFF OUTPLAYED TOM BRADY. Say it out loud. Say it to a friend. Say it to random strangers on the street. It just feels good.

3. Goff's performance was far from perfect, but it was kind of great. In some ways, that's more impressive than those flawless nights. Shake off the bad play, drive the team down for the winning kick. Good stuff.

4. At first, I was grumbling about running the ball on 3rd and 8 on the final drive. While I don't necessarily believe that would always be the right call, I get it. Our confidence in the kicking game is shaky, and a sack could have made for a significantly lower percentage kick. Also, by running, we forced the Bucs to use a time out (something an incomplete pass would not have done). So, yes... I get it (and it worked).

5. Let's give it up for the rookie class! TDs from Akers and Jefferson, a nice PD on 3rd down by Lewis and, of course, two big INTs by Fuller.

6. Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods were awesome last night.

7. To the untrained eye, Aaron Donald has been neutralized for the last two weeks. The truth, though, is that the attention he is getting is opening things up for other players, which is why the Rams' defense held two top offenses to well below their scoring average.

8. Plus, its hard to get on the stat sheet when the refs allow this:
hold.jpg

9. It really is a shame that, on a night in which the NFL made a social statement in selecting its officiating crew, that the officiating was so poor.

10. The Rams were penalized 5 times for 67 yards. The Bucs? 2 for 7. All I can say is... please.

11. The two PIs on Ramsey were particularly frustrating. Its bad enough to miss a call, but both of those were examples of rewarding a player (Evans) for breaking the rules (WRs are NOT allowed to hook and push off DBs, in case you were wondering!)

12. Hope Micah Kiser is okay. He may not be a great player, but he's solid and fills a role.

13. Darious Williams is balling. Didn't know his whole college backstory until last night. Wow.

14. More and more, I'm feeling like we need to find a way to keep John Johnson. I'd feel good about having him and Fuller at the back end for the next few years.

15. Its really remarkable how well this defense has played in the second halves of games. Forcing a 3 and FG after the first INT was HUGE.

16. Matt Gay missed a 44 yard FG, yes... but I felt more confident with his kicks than I did with his predecessors. He also seems to have no trouble with deep kickoffs.

17. Its amazing to see the defense ranked first in yards/game allowed. What is even more impressive is how balanced the run and pass defenses are.

18. You have to give Sean McVay credit for recognizing that it was time to move on from Wade Phillips.

19. While the strength of schedule going forward is tough, the fact that the Rams have 4 of their remaining 6 at home, and all 6 West of the Rocky Mountains, gives us an advantage.

20. Its all in front of us now!
1. Yeah, but when they got the ball we were all thinking “oh shit!”
2. He doesn’t get much credit but despite his gangly appearance Goff’s got a live arm, and Brady’s even slower now so anything other than sliding in the pocket is risky.
4. Goff was nails but I still feel like they’re leaving points on the field.
5. Very impressive byLes and the staff.
6. I wish Rob would’ve taken that to the house, I think that’s why they get overlooked, lack of big play tds.
7. some of these guys act like Morgan Fox gets to Brady without AD attracting 3 guy’s attention. Maybe AD is like Shaq the refs think he’s so good they would be like throwing flags every down.
9. I thought the deal was to let the play continue and then review it?
11. Evans was pretty savvy, I didn’t see the pushing off at first look.
13. Except trying to bring down Evans, it was like playing with the nieces and nephews on thanksgiving.
14. Never doubt Snead’s abilities.
16. pretty sad that I was cheering touchbacks and kicks that look like nfl kicks.
17. This defense is loaded with rookies who can hopefully get even better
18. Wonder if he knew staley was his guy and had to make a move before someone else did. I hope he stays one more year to really dial it in.
19. 4 of these games are division and right now they look like the most complete team.

Robert Woods Signs Extension

Don't know what I said about this extension tbh and not looking back thru don't care enough :D But we have a lot of money tied up in 2 WR and they're both amazing players. We have another young guy who's a clone of them in Van, maybe next year we draft a speedier guy who can also return kicks and we get rid of Webster back there.
got a very fast guy in rookie RB Calais, maybe next year it's his turn
train

GDT: Rams at Bucs

With no Running game against the 3rd ranked defense in the NFL Goff puts up 30 pts, if not for a missed FG. This also, even though Mcvay goes conservative on several 3rd down calls.

If your hate and pride can't give Goff credit for what he accomplished tonight then I will not be arguing with you.

I'll spend my time with the nonbiased reasonable fans that want to celebrate this win and performance by our QB.
Don't forget...Tampa had no running game either. Before the game those picking Tampa were touting how Ro was gonna "give the Bucs a balanced attack and how the Bucs WRs were so good.

All that was true against the Panthers... but they forgot the Rams play defense also...

3 Takeaways from Rams' Week 11 Win

The Los Angeles Rams picked up their seventh win of the season on Monday night, outlasting Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The win was big for a couple of reasons: The Rams took over first place in the NFC West thanks to the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Seattle Seahawks, and they also earned a tiebreaker over the Buccaneers in the wild-card race.
Whether they win the division or not, the Rams are now in a good position to return to the postseason after missing out in 2019. Los Angeles also proved itself to be a legitimate contender in the NFC, as many folks believe Brady and the Bucs to be.
Here are three other takeaways from Los Angeles' win on Monday.

Sean McVay Has Regained His Mojo
1 OF 3

OK, so perhaps Rams head coach Sean McVay never really lost his knack for poking holes in defenses. However, with former running back Todd Gurley struggling last season—and Jared Goff playing inconsistently as a result—McVay's offense in 2019 did not look like the work of an offensive genius. The 2019 Rams ranked 11th in scoring but also with a 9-7 record. This year's incarnation ranks just 17th in scoring but is already two wins shy of last season's win total.
  1. Big reason why has been McVay's ability to adapt to what the opposition is trying to do. On Monday, that meant finding ways to move the ball against the teeth of a dominant run defense, a strong pass rush and a budding secondary.
This was the same Buccaneers defense that has befuddled the likes of Aaron Rodgers and Derek Carr this season. While Goff didn't always make things look easy, he and McVay paired for some excellent drives, and the quarterback finished with 376 passing yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
In a back-and-forth game between two offensive gurus, McVay got the better of Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians.
    This Woods-Kupp Duo Is Incredible
    0bab0c8bc9da0b483af4ddd3bf034702_crop_exact.jpg
    1. Against the league's first-ranked run defense, McVay's offense had to take to the air early and often. That task was made easier by the presence of wide receivers Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp. Each caught more than 10 passes and each topped the 100-yard mark. The two actually combined for 23 receptions, 275 yards and a touchdown. This, against a defense ranked 16th against the pass and 11th in points allowed.

There are some tremendous wide receiver duos in the NFL in 2020—the rival Seahawks have one in DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. The Rams have their own in Kupp and Woods. Though neither pass-catcher is often in the conversation of the league's best, someone who knows a little something about playing receiver can appreciate their greatness.
"Cooper Kupp is the most underrated receiver in the league," Green Bay Packers wideout Davante Adams tweeted during the game. Even though it's a duo that often gets overlooked in the general NFL landscape, this is a tandem capable of taking over games, as it did on Monday night against a championship-caliber defense.

The Rams Have a Championship-Caliber Defense

      1. eef64554e3f66cb21cd8bfb22635ab08_crop_exact.jpg

Bewildering Tom Brady isn't easy, even if the New Orleans Saints made it appear so a couple of weeks ago.
The Rams largely repeated that performance on Monday, holding the quarterback to just 216 yards, forcing him into multiple off throws and a pair of interceptions. While the 43-year-old was only sacked once, Aaron Donald and Co. kept him under pressure throughout the evening.

      2. Brady's passer rating? 62.5, his second-lowest of the season. Just as impressively, the Rams defensive front made Tampa's rushing attack virtually nonexistent. Ronald Jones II led the team with just 24 yards, and no Buccaneers runner had a carry longer than six yards. As a team, Tampa had just 251 yards of total offense. In back-to-back weeks, the Rams have now shown they can contain playoff-caliber offense and Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks—they held the Seahawks to just 16 points in Week 10. With Goff, Woods, Kupp and the rest of the offense finding ways to thrive, this provides a formula for postseason success. When the defense is playing like it did on Monday night, L.A. is capable of knocking off anyone in the league.

POLL: Just want to check our Sloman Pulse

The Tennessee Titans have added another kicker after signing Sam Sloman to their practice squad. The news comes from Sloman’s agency, JL Sports, which tweeted out a congratulations to the kicker.

Sloman recently visited the Titans last week, and before that he had a workout with the team earlier in the month. He is now one of two kickers Tennessee has on its practice squad, along with Giorgio Tavecchio.

Sloman, who was a 2020 seventh-round pick, played in seven games for the Los Angeles Rams this season before being waived and made 8-of-11 field goal tries and 18-of-21 extra point attempts.

He was 2-for-3 from 20-29 yards, 5-for-5 from 30-39 yards, 1-for-2 from 40-49 yards and 0-for-1 from 50-59 yards. Sloman’s longest make of the season came from 42 yards out.

The Titans will continue to have an insurance policy (or two) on hand just in case veteran kicker Stephen Gostkowski self-destructs once again.

Gostkowski made all three of his field goal attempts in Week 11, but entered the contest against the Baltimore Ravens with eight misses on the season, the most in the NFL.

The Titans will look to win back-to-back games when they take on the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday in Week 12.
Gotskowski is straight shit this year. Best of luck to Sam unless we play them in the SB.

Rams on pace to have one of the best 2nd-half defenses in NFL history

The offense has allowed at least 17 points off short fields or turnovers in the second half - another 7 after failing on 4th down against Buffalo, although that field wasn't that short.

The defense has almost allowed as many points as the offense has off turnovers in the 2nd half. All 10 points last night came off turnovers and they only gained about 45 yards on their two scoring drives

Les Snead’s offseason looking even more impressive as former Rams struggle

Les Snead’s offseason looking even more impressive as former Rams struggle

Not that we are rooting against anyone, but it is clear that LA’s evaluations of their own players were on point

By Kenneth Arthur
As former Rams continue to struggle, Les Snead’s offseason looks better - Turf Show Times

The LA Rams had several difficult decisions to make in the offseason, in addition to a few that either weren’t difficult or that were basically made for them. Perhaps the hardest to accept was letting go of Todd Gurley, even if it sadly made the most sense. Through 10 games with the Atlanta Falcons, Gurley has only made the move that much more justifiable.

Since rushing for 121 yards against the Carolina Panthers in Week 5, Gurley has struggled to make plays as either a runner or a receiver. In his last five games, he’s had 88 rushing attempts for 235 yards (2.6 yards per carry) and caught eight of 11 targets for 44 yards and no touchdowns. He’s rushed for four touchdowns but also had a fumble during that stretch, his second on the season.

Gurley’s overall YPC average of 3.7 is even lower than the 3.8 he posted in his final season with the Rams.

At this point it would seem that Sean McVay and Les Snead were correct in their evaluation of Gurley that presumed he would not regain the form he had as a first team all-pro in 2017 and 2018. Gurley was a premier weapon in the passing game in 2017, averaging 9.1 yards per target that year. But in 2020, that number is 3.4 yards per target and he hasn’t caught a touchdown yet.

Gurley has nine rushing touchdowns thanks to a nose for the goal line that has not disappeared since his time as one of the NFL’s most dangerous players with the ball in his hands, but if you had concerns that LA cut ties with him too soon, it would be fair to say at this point that those worries were overblown.

I believe the same would go for Brandin Cooks, even if he does finish with more volume stats this season than he had in 2019.

The Texans traded a second round pick for Cooks and he’s caught 47 of 73 targets for 634 yards and three touchdowns. That gives him more receptions, yards and touchdowns than he had last season but his overall stat line with Houston is almost the same as what he did with Los Angeles in 2019:

He caught 42 of 72 targets for 583 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games.

Cooks’ 13.5 yards per catch is close to the 13.9 he had with the Rams last season. His 8.7 yards per target is not significantly higher than his 8.1 last season. If anything, I think Cooks is showing why LA traded him despite taking a financial loss in 2020 on the deal and that he would not have been able to help them significantly on offense anymore. At least Van Jefferson is a cheaper player to place your bets on from 2021-2023.

Another key player that the Rams had to watch leave this year was inside linebacker Cory Littelton. He signed a lucrative free agent contract with the Las Vegas Raiders but he only has 48 tackles, no sacks, no interceptions, no passes defensed, no forced fumbles, no QB hits and three tackles for a loss in eight games. He has missed the last two games while sitting on the COVID-19 reserve list.

Coincidentally, Dante Fowler has also missed the last two games while on the COVID-19 list for the Falcons. Fowler had 11.5 sacks and 16 tackles for a loss with the Rams last year. He has two sacks and three tackles for a loss in eight games with Atlanta this season. Fowler is also on pace for fewer tackles and he has no batted passes after getting six last season.

Given some of Snead’s other offseason moves, like grabbing Leonard Floyd for one year and deciding to rebuild the offensive line with internal options, plus hiring Brandon Staley as the defensive coordinator to replace Wade Phillips, it’s worth taking into him into consideration as Executive of the Year. Not only for what the Rams did, but what they didn’t do.

Rams vs. Bucs, Rams' Defense Have Shown Few Weaknesses

No doubt, Train

Higbee is a great weapon that will get snaps chipping on Boom’s side and then release, motions to wham block the pressure but I think he gets some balls his way Monday night.
Let's not forget Mundt should he also play. I can see it because I see extra protection for Goff...but also that there are times Everett lines up as a WR.

Mundt is tough to bring down and a better blocker than Everett...he could see a few plays!
