The Golden Boy

I am from Marin County, went to Cal and live in Berkeley. I have been a Jared Goff fan for a loong time. And let me just say, Jared Goff is the exact same guy I've been watching since he was on the Elite 11 TV show in high school. Even then, there was this automatic tendency to underestimate him. He consistently ranked second or third on the show but never first; different guys would leapfrog him to get the top spot. The coaches would always briefly acknowledge his performance on camera ("well you have to have Jared up there"), but they hardly every showed him. Then he got to Cal, where the majority of fans were rooting for RS frosh Zach Kline to win the starting QB spot. Still, it was pretty obvious who the better player was. Cal proceeded to be absolutely atrocious with Goff as the starter, but his talent was obvious. We also saw that he never got down on himself; he just kept slinging it no matter what else was happening. By his junior year, he was in total command of the offense at the line of scrimmage. The preternatural pocket presence, the wow throws, the spreading the ball around, it was all there. It's super gratifying to see him do it now against the best in the world. And just like before, people will damn him with faint praise until he forces them to acknowledge the truth. Honestly, 16 is perfect for him; he does have Joe Montana-like qualities. I think Walsh would have loved him too, biggest reasons being his feet and that he throws a catchable ball.

Anyways, I'm a traditional Niner fan but I gotta say it's been a long time since I rooted for a team like your Rams. There are a lot of other truly great players on this team, and it feels like a special year. This is my first post, thanks for reading.
Forfeit your loyalty to the 9ers and pledge your allegiance to the Rams :P
Going to keep my eye on Jimmy G tho. That should be exciting for you guys. Go bears.

Sean McVay’s Rapid Rise With Rams Offers NFL Coaching Search Lessons

Really like the article, as Breer's points all make sense, but we have to remember there was still significant but unquantifiable risk hiring McVay. Lots of guys talk a good game and then flame out because the hard part is the execution. Kudos to the Rams management and McVay for working so well together in bringing this team out of the abyss. After last season I was just shaking my head how poor the outlook was for the team. What a miracle worker, and how amazing it is to have unlimited potential for years to come.

Seattle now owns all tie-breakers, Rams lose NFCW in tie

Seattle own the tie breakers... it's just math dude, not sure why you are acting like this is even debatable.

If the Seahawks and Rams have the same amount of wins, and the Rams have 1 win from a non-shared opponent, and the Seahawks have 0 wins from a non-shared opponent, then that must mean...The Seahawks have more wins against shared opponents!

Also, strength of victory will never matter. Because, like I said, it's impossible for the Rams and Seahawks to tie on 2 and 3, and they go down the list until one team has the edge.

Well, hmm....as you wish. ;)

What we can learn from Case Keenum's star turn and what's next

Every Rams fan wants them to win a Super Bowl. My post has nothing to do with Goff, or the Rams.

LIKE I SAID props to Case Keenum !!

I think he plays for another the Vikings so , not a big fan of his team. E beat The Rams & held the starting job even when The coach was not committed to him. He has earned respect around the league.
—What that amounts to is questionable. What is his future ?? Another NFC player of the month award. Maybe even a Kurt Warner like career??

I Repent, Goff is an NFL QB

This is my take... he's certainly not a bum... I know I never called him one, did you?

And, as your discussion shows, huge stats in college don't necessarily translate to NFL success, nor does where the guy went to school (division).
Said he had a noodle arm, but not a bum.
Keenum had 19k passing yards in NCAA, but did play 5 years....
How important are college stats?
Keenum- 19,217 yards
???- 17,491 yards

Who is that you ask??
Dan Marino
And Tom Brady
And Joe Montana
COMBINED

It's pro-Bowl voting Time!

You can make a case for a Rams player from every position besides TE and safety this year. Very complete team.
I know that somewhere out there, every team has an idiot that just votes for his team's guys no matter how good they are. To counteract that, I decided to bite the bullet and be that idiot for the Rams. Congrats Tyler Higbee and John Johnson, those 5 votes are from me.

When Will Gurley Hit 1000?

Don't know what you're talking about, the guy has over 1300 yards already. (y)

But as far as rushing yards, Todd needs 135 to get to 1000. If Dunbar or Brown is back for this game to block on some 3rd downs then I could see Gurley getting enough work on the ground to make it happen this week. But if not he'll do it against the Eagles!

Both reserve RB who have been battling knee injuries Brown & Dunbar were listed yesterday as Limited Participation in Practice - Less than 100% of a player's normal repetitions. This is good information since both were listed as DNP last Friday. Hopefully one of these two can spell Gurley some against the Cards so he can be a little fresher for the Eagles & Seahawks games.

Rams listed 10 injuries yesterday. 8 DNP! Two new injuries show'd up with Ankles, CB Kayvon Webster & WR Josh Reynolds. CB Robey-Coleman, Nickell was still listed as Limited Participation in Practice too.

MATCHUP: LOS ANGELES RAMS OFFENSE VS. ARIZONA CARDINALS DEFENSE

QB Jared Goff vs. Cardinals blitz The last time these two teams met in 2017, Goff had his worst performance of the season against the blitz. He did complete six of his 10 passes against the blitz, but he averaged only 5.3 yards per attempt and threw an interception (his only interception against the blitz in 2017).

Goff has been blitzed on 101 of his 388 drop backs in 2017, going 56-of-93 for 834 yards, seven touchdowns, one interception, and a passer rating of 110.2 (well above the 89.7 league average). He will have plenty of opportunities to redeem his Week 7 performance with the Cardinals blitzing on 36 percent of pass plays (league average is 30 percent) while creating pressure on 35.8 percent of those blitzes.

Goff can win the game by beating the blitz as shown by his Week 3, Week 9, and Week 10 performances against the blitz, where he went 16-of-22 for 317 yards, five touchdowns, and a passer rating of 154.4 while outscoring opponents 125-63.

HB Todd Gurley vs. Cardinals run defense One of Gurley’s highest graded games of the season came against the Cardinals in Week 7 with an 84.4, where he forced his most missed tackles in the run game for a single game with four. He also added another missed tackle in the passing game leading his way to the third-highest elusive rating among running backs for Week 7 at 55.1. Since that game, the Cardinals have the second lowest missed tackle rate combined as a defense, missing on 9.6 percent of tackle attempts while Gurley is forcing a missed tackle on 16 percent of carries.

WR Josh Reynolds vs. CB Tramon Williams Reynolds earned his first start of the season in Week 12 where he earned a 74.0 game grade with a passer rating of 122.9 on his six targets. He will see a lot of Williams with Cooper Kupp sliding into the slot and Sammy Watkins drawing attention from Patrick Peterson.

His opponent has the 16th-highest coverage grade among cornerbacks at 84.5 and is allowing the eighth lowest passer rating into his coverage at 55.6 and averaging a catch allowed every 12.9 coverage snaps on 232 total coverage snaps.

MATCHUP: ARIZONA CARDINALS OFFENSE VS. LOS ANGELES RAMS DEFENSE

WR Larry Fitzgerald vs. CB Nickell Robey-Coleman Through 12 weeks of the season, the 34-year-old Fitzgerald has easily been the team’s MVP, and at this point, it’s hard to imagine how the offense would have functioned without him. Through 11 games, Fitzgerald has seen 101 targets, 51 more targets than the next wide receiver, and he’s caught 71.3 percent of the passes thrown his way for 780 yards and four touchdowns, all the highest marks among his teammates.

Fitzgerald has also been the team’s best red zone receiving threat and leads his team with 12 red zone targets. He’s caught eight of those targets for 81 yards and all four of his touchdowns, generating a passer rating of 125.1, once again the highest mark among his comrades.

With nine of those red zone targets coming from the slot position, the player looking to keep the veteran out of the end zone this week will be slot cornerback Nickell Robey Coleman, who has allowed just 0.46 yards per coverage snap and a passer rating of just 54.5 when covering the slot this year, the third and fifth-best marks among cornerbacks, respectively.

QB Blaine Gabbert vs. the blitz – In his two games as starter, Gabbert has been serviceable when throwing from a clean pocket and has posted a passer rating of 92.8 on such throws, 18th among signal-callers. However, when blitzed, Gabbert has thrown both of his interceptions, and that rating has fallen all the way to just 19.2. He must improve against a Rams defense that has blitzed on 37.3 percent of passing snaps this year, the fourth most among the league’s teams.

RB D.J. Foster vs. LB Mark Barron With running back Kerwynn Williams set to miss time with a rib injury, D.J. Foster will likely see more snaps this week, especially in passing situations. Foster played 18 snaps on offense in Week 12, the highest mark of his season so far, and he caught all three of his catchable targets for 18 yards at an average of 1.38 yards per route run, 13th best among backs last week. However, could be in for a tough matchup against Mark Barron, who’s coverage grade of 82.5 is currently 11th best among linebackers.

Playoff Predictor

Going into this part of the season I felt like we needed to win 2 of the 4 games vs Minnesota, New Orleans, Seattle, and Philadelphia. We have played two of those games and are 1-1, which is a real nice indicator for right now against legitimate playoff teams we will be facing this year if we get in.

Now, we did get a break of sorts vs New Orleans in that they didn't have Lattimore, who has had enormous impact on their defense, as well as their other starting CB. But a win's a win and most importantly our defense put their offense in a stranglehold which is absolutely huge for us going forward.

We still gotta win 1 of those 2 games now IMO. If not, it's going to be a bad indicator for our playoff experience, but also it might hurt us in winning the division in the event Seattle gets hot. Winning one of those two plus taking care of business in the others puts us at respectable vs the NFC field and more importantly makes it extremely difficult for Seattle to catch us in the standings. And if they manage to win both, well, then you're probably talkin guys getting to rest in the last game of the season and us being in the mix for a bye maybe. Damn that would be nice.
