Game Thoughts

mkay, sorry to bump the thread but have to make an important correction: therosebowlisplayedinpasadenanottheColiseum

.....so anyways, it looks like the field is ours from here on out. I'm hoping Stan will keep it in tip top shape for our next home game. USC vs. Stanford was actually in Santa Clara, so it looks like the Saints game was the last time the Coliseum field took any abuse, barring any practices on the field from the Trojans (do they have a practice field?).
Time to get after it Stan! make this stadium host 90k raving Rams fans!
I sure hope the Field is in its best shape ever for the Eagles game. We need all the edges we can muster!! A nice Fast/Firm Field for our WR's and Guuurley will go a long way!!(y);)

Practice Report: Rams Not Counting Out the Cardinals

Big positive news that both our back up RB's were able to go Full practice status late Friday afternoon! I would prefer that Gurley is rested as much as possible for the Eagles & Seahawks game. It would not bother me to see a HEAVY duty mixer of TA/Brown & Dunbar after the Rams get up in this game.

The Cards could be a little soft in the middle of thier D Sunday due to the injuries to Big Run Stuffer NT Corey Peters & Inside LB'er Deone Bucannon both out. Plus starting DT Josh Mauro has a badly damaged ankle & may not dress out too. You should be able to wear down old man DT Frostee Rucker too.

Unless the Rams are up like 31-7 I wouldn't rest anyone! PF's and PA's are Tie-Breaker's in seeding for the Post Season, so we need to Run-Up scores! JMHO

John Clayton: Rams are 10 win Wild Card team

Not so sure about this. Clayton is wrong about the Rams, but he has a point about the Seahawks. They are still dangerous, especially at home.
I agree about the HOME Field element. Not sure why the Rams seem to always face the Seattle in late December in Seattle might they someday change this standard NFL .

I hope we beat Seattle 38-0. Like most talking heads, Clayton doesn't have much insight to offer.
A big solid win would make this season truly special. The Hawks are not a healthy team going into a big game on prime-time. Many key injuries are listed today with them.

As you & I know that in these big games many time injured player hurt & damage themselves for a longer period. I just can not see the Eagle's D permitting this Wilson Unit offense with 3 ailing starting OL'ers to be effective to win.

The Eagles offense has a running game that can wear most any good team down & the injured Hawks will have issues going into the 4th quarter if there is a eagles 2 score lead & the Eagles do score often.

ESPN Talking up the Rams!/Week 12 Power Rankings

Seriously... does he lay money down on the attendance for every Rams home game?

He's obsessed with this topic... find something else to rag on the Rams about, Clownio.

Florio was trolling St Louis for attendance too, even when the Rams weren't winning.

MDS does the same thing.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/11/27/the-rams-are-for-real-and-other-week-12-thoughts/

The Rams, playing in front of tens of thousands of empty seats at the Coliseum....So Los Angeles has one of the best teams in the league. The big question facing the NFL in its Los Angeles experiment is whether they can get SoCal to care....Now the Sean McVay Rams are a good team with a thrilling offense, but the fans aren’t back. It would be a shame if these Rams didn’t get the appreciation they deserve.

Which would you rather have? Iggles or Hawks win?

Scrolled down fast on page one to get to the reply text field and noticed the last post was of the just as important never ending ginger vs Mary Ann debate, so ill just say that the threesom is the obvious choice...unless, like Seinfeld, you can't be that guy, lounging around draped in velvet.

I'm actually wearing a velvet jumpsuit now so i think I am speaking clearly and from my higher self when I say that I'd like Seattle to barely beat Philly so Philly fans can brush it off to "we were due a loss" followed by total destruction of the eagles in L.A.

Then, as the talking heads are questioning what's up, down, hot and cold in this NFL matrix, we go up to Seattle and shove the Carson wentz pieces that Donald picked out of his teeth, right down Wilson's throat. Hope he has plenty of his magic water nearby.

Goff observation

We were bad...why, were the players that much different?
Accepting losing....is a loser mentality...
Not accepting last year's performance as a matter of fact... is being in denial... Did I say we were supposed to be bad? Did I say that I was okay with last year's performance? I think maybe youre messing up two definitions of "accept". Last year's performance = unacceptable. Acknowledging that we were bad last year and moving on = acceptance.

I'm not trying to be overly positive...or negative...just a realist...
re·al·ist
noun
  1. a person who accepts a situation as it is and is prepared to deal with it accordingly.
Clarify.....just as bad....hmmm....more, he's made mistakes that BQ made...and he's not roasted over open coals....his mistakes appear to be worse....several announcers have claimed he has to make those catches....same as when I see a wide open target that's missed, the QB..in the pros, HAS TO make those throws...Can he get better? Sure...everyone makes an improvement of some type in year 2. What's his ceiling tho? Again, you are comparing Quick, from one of the WORST OFFENSIVE STAFFS IN THE HISTORY OF RAMS FOOTBALL, to Kupp, who's benefited from what appears to be the greatest offensive mind in Rams football since...since...Martz....Gilliam??? Not entirely fair....IMO
Champ, I don't know if you've noticed, but you were the one that put Kupp and Quick in the same sentence. See below:
dude Kupp has drop crucial passes....some would say worse than Quick...
I totally agree with you though - why would we compare Kupp/Quick??

Whit....just as good/bad...no....but he had a game that was G-Rob like....and no one has raked him over the coals either...some have said nothing...like it didn't happen...we face Chander Jones in 3 days....then in 10 days we'll get Phily with Graham and Bennett....then the Seahawks....all tough D-Lines...what, we're gonna open the discussion after 13 more QB hits?
Whitworth had a terrible game....against New Orleans....and against Houston....not a word about Whit, but G-Rob is a bust....
You've been arguing re:G-Rob because no one has been on Whitworth's jock? No one is saying Whitworth is perfect. You can criticize Whitworth's play if you want. But yet again, you are comparing him to Grob.

Pretty much I think it sums up to this. You get into arguments(not in a bad way) because you think our past players didn't get a fair chance under the new coaching staff and you think Grob/Quick would've been just as good. And because Jared Goff is a trailer.

LOL Anyway, I love you.

Watkins’ Unselfish Attitude Pays Off on Field

It was posted in a thread here. He was relaxed about the entire process.

@jrry32 Watkins has been chilled out about things all year. He knows there are guys who can play and catch.

Watkins was complaining earlier in the year. Even he admits that. I am hoping this leopard changed his spots. It would be great for us if Watkins becomes an unselfish player because he has a valuable role to play.

The Power Of Play-Action

It's not just the play action that's improving offenses, it's also the misdirection plays (i.e. WR motion pre-snap, jet sweep plays sprinkled with play action or HB handoffs) that's keeping defenses off balance. I like the approach but would like to create balance between using those and traditional setups with nuanced route running.

Rams will retain 5/6th of the current DL losing only one reserve NT walker. Dom Easley has some better competition here now than he had last season. If he is damaged & hampered things look beak for his making a comeback as he did in 2016. Fox.Westbrooks & Smart have filled his void nicely so there is no real need for his 3 tech type play. its the Nose where there is a need.

No telling what happens with UFA NT Tyrunn Walker. He has played on 3 different teams since 2014. He also had injuries issues with the Lions & has yet never started more than 8 games in six seasons either. No way to know if he wants to be a 34 Nose or find a easier 43 DT post somewhere. Snead & Wade drafted Tanzel Smart to be the Wade type Nose, but the under 6-1 295 plus DL hit a rookie wall about 4 weeks ago & faded from the snap totals due to poor play. His abilities are clouded @ the moment & currently TS is playing behind Aaron Donald @ the 3 tech DT post.

Ref the future UFA NT Poe.......Wade does have access to a typical bodied Nose in Omarius Bryant {6-3 315 plus} who is signed to the PS currently. The DL has remained injury free thus far & Bryant has not been needed yet. We got a good look @ this UDFA rookie in pre season where we saw that this NT ...appeared to possesses the upper-body strength to rock blockers on initial contact. In pre season he stood up offensive linemen at the point of attack. He was rarely overpowered, consistently holds his ground at the line of scrimmage. We also saw that he is capable of disrupting run plays despite facing multiple blockers. So if the Rams do have a breakout of issues with runs up the middle we may see Bryant. Not telling what Bryant can develop into by next year in the Nose.

Morgan Fox 6-3 275 pounder & getting bigger & stronger will return under contract in 2018. I really like Fox's on field performance this season. Fox is now Brockers reserve since they moved Westbrooks into starting Nose. Fox is always around the ball. Fox is also friend of Donald. Fox in his reserve role he has 2.5 sacks a forced fumble & 12 tackles not bad. Fox came to the Rams as a rookie out of Colorado State-Pueblo @ 250 plus pounds.

Ethan Westbrooks will return also, but he has as a rough start to this season with personal issues & law enforcement entanglements ....on top of that he was suppose to be our 5 tech starting DE in this Wade D but Brockers got a chance to play his post & Westbrooks was history @ the 5 tech post. He is now our starting NT.
Not unusual for rookies of all positions to hit the "rookie" wall. As much about conditioning and contact as anything. And teams getting film in them in their current teams O or D.
Fox has been solid.
Westbrooks....ehhh
I want Poe because he can play all slots on the line. He is athletically very good.
Maybe Bryant can play in the NFL, maybe not.
If the team is close to winning titles going in the cheap to fill holes doesn't make sense to me. I would certainly retain Walker if possible and reasonable and try to find an upgrade in FA.

Back to back for GZ

How good of a year is GZ having??? Man he has just been nailing it. Although, that 63 yarder last week failing so short was a little embarrassing for "LegaTron".

Johnny Hekker: "Stage fright! Young kid still has to learn to play with the nerves like an old timer like me! He's getting there, but he ain't the Great I Am yet!"

Greg: "Not to worry! Next 60+ yarder attempt, I'll just imagine I'm kicking YOU!!!"

Los Angeles Rams players will showcase personal causes on-field during this Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals at University of Phoenix Stadium as part of the NFL’s My Cause, My Cleats campaign.
NFL players will again have the chance to share the causes that are important to them during all Week 13 games, as part of the NFL’s My Cause, My Cleats campaign. The initiative is a culmination of collaborative work between the NFL and players across the league. Approximately 1,000 players are planning to showcase their causes on-field during Week 13 games, nearly double the player participation from the inaugural year of the campaign.

Below are the 28 Rams players participating in this year’s My Cause, My Cleatscampaign and the causes/organizations they support:

The ingenious strategy that allows Sean McVay to be an actual coach on the field

Don't forget all of those nefarious offensive coordinators perched in their malevolent booths bartering with Satan himself as they whisper terrible secrets into even the most staunch and grizzled veteran quarterback's ears.

Take a great player like Peyton Manning for example who rejected false words from Adam Gase in the name of holy football.

Let us pray and can the church say Amend?
