It's That Time of Year

Mojo and I hang out at times at arizonasportsfans.com , and it's like death over there. Season is over, HC and staff are fired, and the team has the #1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft.

...and the playoffs haven't even started.

Been there, haven't we? I love all of our guys, but none of them (sorry AD) are worth the team of Sean McVay and Les Snead. They have gathered and coached up the team we have today. McVay chose the Fisher guys he could use, and Snead got the rest through the draft and FA. Now, we are in a different place than the pathetic Cards, realizing that we were them just a couple of years ago....Now, we wait for the divisional round to play a home game against the Bears, most likely. Beat them, and we are one game away from the Super Bowl.

The next game is the game of your lives, boys.

13 - 3 / 6 - 0 . . . and rising.

Oh, gotcha. I agree. I also think part of the "slump", and panic by some, is that DET and CHI forced Goff into some uncharacteristic behaviors, staring his reciever down and forcing the ball into double and sometimes triple coverage. Pressure will do that to a young QB and both teams did that well. A running game helps as does a short passing attack. It seemed like the playcalling was a little stubborn in those two games, the D was getting pressure with just 4 and defending the deep pass. Good defenses aren't always going to let you run your normal offense, sometimes you have to adjust.
I agree there but it was Gurleys injury and no viable backup (in regards to pass pro ) that stopped us running our normal offense as much as them taking away the deep pass

I do agree adjustments needed to be made

Corbin's Last "Best in Class" 2016 Ram Mock Draft

I think Boehringer was worth a shot at the time. Raw athlete with good size and measurables, why not? Those round 4 through 7 guys are very low chances of hitting anyway, so why not get a guy who has the raw ability and hope he's willing to do the work to stick.

It depends on just how well they performed against tough competition. I always view a guy like Hemmingway as a wasted pick. Too much development needed. Might as well take a guy that produced despite lesser athleticism. But a guy that totally dominated a lower level, like Westbrooks is a better investment. I figure that if a guy has good measurables but didn't dominate below division one than its a wasted pick. And it usually is. If it's a basketball player, then that's different because there is nothing to go off of.

I know it's in later rounds but I wouldn't pick a Boehringer with anything but a seventh, and prefer to just sign him as an UDFA. Rounds 5-7 can be good rounds for depth, and can occasionally produce a good starter, even a star.

How The Rams Win The Superbowl

Offense is my biggest concern. That is what will win a championship for us. This defense isn't good enough to depend on.

The formula for us winning the Super Bowl is a powerful offense and a bend but don't break defense. We could probably win a championship giving up a lot of rushing yards as long as we get a few stops and a turnover here and there. When we don't score on at least every other drive that concerns me.

I think McVay will be better prepared against teams deploying a 46 defense.

Make Your Picks; 2018 Survivor and Pick'em / Weekly Update

I noticed it too late also..banged out my picks and typed up a message for you..but this dumbass never hit the reply button
Normally I make picks on Tuesday or Wednesday so i'd spot it but with Tuesday being Christmas things got rushed because of time pressures. This is why the games need at least 2 members who can check times and match-ups are correct or at least that things are put in. As it is i'm doing the work and then having to check myself for errors, and it's tough to spot your own errors.

2019 opponents

... things change so quickly season to season who knows what will happen.

Exactly.
At least 1 or 2 of the teams that should be good will flop and there is usually a team on bottom that nobody expected to be good that is... what we can know with some certainty is that we will be a team that looks hard to beat on other teams schedules.
We also can be sure that beating our division gets us back in the playoffs for a 3rd straight time.

The Envelope, Please

Defensive Player: Aaron Donald, L.A. Rams
Hard to imagine a player—without a training camp, with a slew of new defensive mates to get accustomed—having a better year on the fly than Donald. Once he got used to his surroundings, Donald had 16.5 sacks in his last 10 games, and threatened Michael Strahan’s NFL sack record of 22.5. Donald finished with 20.5.

Next: 2. Fletcher Cox, 3. Khalil Mack.

The Best of 2019

Los Angeles Rams at Pittsburgh.
Aaron Donald’s a proud Pittsburgher, and played his college games at Heinz Field, and will be supremely motivated to play for the first and perhaps only time on home turf. Ben Roethlisberger might want to have a very quick release in this game.

“Best three-technique I’ve ever seen … He’s the best defensive tackle I’ve ever seen, period.”

—Hall of Fame defensive lineman Howie Long, on Aaron Donald, on FOX’s NFL pregame show Sunday.

Target on his back. From Michael M.: “What Aaron Donald has done this season is incredible. Every team knows what he brings and targets him, and he still produces game after game.”
----------------------------------------------
Interesting relationship between Rams tackle Andrew Whitworth and Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams, who played his last NFL game Sunday after 13 pro seasons.

They played football at arch-rival high schools, Williams at Ruston and Whitworth at West Monroe, in northern Louisiana. Out of season, Whitworth played on the West Monroe basketball team and Williams and his football mates would heckle Whitworth when their two teams met; Williams played on the Ruston baseball team, and Whitworth would heckle Williams in the field and at bat.

As a redshirt freshman at LSU, Whitworth hosted Williams on his official campus visit. Williams chose LSU. Whitworth and Williams roomed together at LSU and played on the same team for four years. Whitworth was a first-team all-SEC tackle as a senior. Williams was a first-team all-SEC defensive lineman as a senior.

They were NFL draft choices three rounds apart in 2006, Whitworth in the second round (Bengals) and Williams in the fifth round (Bills).

They played on the same pro football team twice in 13 NFL seasons: the AFC team in the 2012 and 2016 Pro Bowls.

Williams made five Pro Bowls. Whitworth has made four.

Williams has five children. Whitworth has four.

Williams lives in a home on a golf course in Ruston. Whitworth lives in a home on the same golf course in Ruston.

Their front doors are about 500 feet apart.

Intelligent Football

Players in the top five at their positions that you might not expect: wideout Robert Woods (Rams), tackles Ryan Ramczyk (Saints) and Rob Havenstein (Rams), defensive end Myles Garrett (Browns). There are some eyebrow-raisers at tight end, such as San Francisco’s George Kittle routing the field and being the top-rated guy, and Trey Burton having a better year, per PFF, than Rob Gronkowski.

Lost my Dad yesterday

Just getting around to seeing this. Sorry to hear it. I've lost both my parents in the last three years and no matter what their age it's not an easy thing. Hope you have become more resolved now and just have fond memories. Hang in there. You'll have random moments of emotion hit you from time to time but they are healing.
