Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Surreal day today. Went to get some groceries...holy crap was the place crowded AF. People buying so much stuff for their parties, and almost all Patriot fans...mostly old people to boot. I say almost because...

Then there was me, the brown millennial wearing AD's threads. I also got so many dirty looks. Must've been butthurt aints fans.

I went to the Wasted Management Open on Friday wearing my Vintage Los Angeles Rams t-shirt likely walked by 50,000 people most were cool but damn I tell ya. Good thing I have patience. There was one Dickerson and one Gurley jersey. I expected more but it's more of a fashion show there. Proud I sported our Rams really stoned with sunglasses.

My fellow Tolkien dorks!

I read Tolkien for the first time when I was about 12, and I reread the entire series every few years. When I saw The Fellowship of the Ring in the theater, the opening scenes of Hobbiton literally brought tears to my eyes; it was EXACTLY how it appeared in my minds eye. Years ago, I told my son the Hobbit from memory, while we were on a long drive. Ya, I'm a Tolkien geek :)
I was maybe 17 when I read it all. But never the Silmarillion, tried a few times, but could never finish--like Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance :D.

BUT, instead of reading LOTR or Beowulf, which I normally read most every winter, I decided to give the Sil another go. Already past Beren and Luthien. I'm gonna make it this time.

Scheme Focus, but Talent Matters most

The Rams stand very little chance of winning; yes, their talent is better. But the Brady at week 8-9, who was a B- QB, is now an A+ again. IF Rams CBs have to play lights out, while we have a consisent pass rush---which I dont count on, then we have a good chance. We can count on the offense being smart---but Bellyboy has outsmarted almost every coach. If our corners play A+ and we get to Brady, we have a chance.

Can Roby C handle Edelman? IF he can, wow...but, I doubt it; who has? Can Talib handle Gronk? Yes. Will he? Maybe.

Goff, who will go to the HOF, is a long way away from playing at an A- level by himself. In the 4th quarter and OT he weas great; he will need that for 5 quarters on Sunday. DOn't see it against this smart D. I predicted a punt block in the playoffs--hasn't happened...we need something on the special teams!

If Rams win, McVay will kinged...and knighted. Somehow, I don't care so much if Rams lose....let's see what happens when I wake up MOnday, lol. Maybe I have grown up :)

I’m confident the Rams WILL win.
No guarantees, but confident.
I guess you could say I am cautiously optimistic.

Who is America rooting for in this Super Bowl?

Yeah, I'd say the city doesn't deserve the team.

Yes, that is an opinion, but viewership numbers are not... and that's sad.

Your dismissal of LA's worthiness to have a team is simplistic and short-sighted.

And by the way: Has LA ever deserved a team? Just want to be sure.

For many of us, when that treacherous witch Frontiere decimated our Rams to reduce attendance so she could bail on us--many of us felt betrayed. A huge kick in the balls. Like a girlfriend we stuck with, despite never winning a SB. But she up and bailed with another guy back to her home town.

Many people said fuck that bitch, and started following other teams. Others, like my dad and me only liked the Rams--no one else, but they bailed on us, so we just stopped watching all together. The young kids who came of age after the Rams left here were left to choose from other teams--steelers, whiners, shithawks, cowpies, whoever, and they stuck with them, creating a lost generation of LA football fans, who grew up and passed their teams on to their kids, how it's usually done. The steeler fan down the street has three kids--all steeler fans.

Now the Rams come back in 20 years later, and what do people expect, old girlfriend comes back home and what? Dump our new girlfriends because a beat-up old flame is back? And all the people who flock from all over the country to live in SoCal should suddenly stop loving their Packers, Giants, Steelers, etc? It doesn't work that way. You should know that. It's gonna take years, maybe a generation to rebuild our fan base.

And my two teenagers are the building block generation. It'll start with them. They didn't experience the betrayal and they don't give a shit. They just like Gurley and Goff and Donald and those badass helmets (sound familiar, people? (y)) Then they'll pass it along to their kids, and tell them how Vince Ferragamo came and talked to their school, and so it'll go.

That's what it's gonna take--a slow, gradual rebuilding. Slowly winning people back in this complex, sprawling city of southern, midwestern, east coast, PNW and international expats. That's the simple reality.

(And btw, it doesn't hurt that the old flame is looking pretty fucking hot lately )
