This deserves its own thread (contract extensions)

Again lets play the hindsight game and criticize a team of executives and coaches that put us in the playoffs twice, super bowl once and a game away from a third playoffs in three years. Then we can call them dysfunctional and suggest we can them all. I don't like cutting Gurley or trading Cooks it negatively affected the cap a year earlier than we should have done IMO. But getting rid of this front office is foolish.
Woah. When did I say we should fire them?

Trade Ramsey Now

Look it was a steep price to pay compensation wise, and it will be a steep price to pay salary wise, but he is a man shut down corner. They are hard to come by. Last year with the Rams he was as shut down as it gets period. He takes on the other teams #1 wr and shuts them down. Most teams are in trouble, because their #2s and 3s are distant to their #1. If
Ramsey shuts their #1 down teams are hard pressed to score as easily.

As far as trading him it just doesn't make sense unless it is to Miami at #5 and we take Okudah if Detroit doesn't take him at #3 and we get some more draft picks from Miami one more in the first and one 2nd maybe. We just traded for a cheaper version of Jalen by many accounts, plus we get some other picks maybe Murray ILB and Swift or Taylor at RB
and we are not stuck paying him while the rookie will be astronomically cheaper and possibly not much of a downgrade. Not to mention we have more flexibility with our own picks to move around.

We can't trade him for any higher pick without a package of other stuff and what's the logic? Say we were able to package Ramsey, Big Rob and #57 to Washington to get Chase Young and Trent Williams but now we have a huge hole at DB. I love this based on Young"s upside just don't see how we solve the DB hole. The only trade that makes sense is one that includes Okudah and that would need to be made on draft day because we can't make it until we know what other teams are doing.

Todd Gurley released

Bad look for Todd. Not a great look for the Rams either, but Gurley’s tweet was flat out unprofessional.

Evidence piling up that Gurley wasn’t great in the lockerroom.

Gurley’s tweet about “Is Goff lying?” (after Goff wished him well) kinda pissed me off TBH.

Yea totally agree man. Going to social media in my opinion kind of makes this a lose lose for the Rams either way right or wrong.

I really did want to continue to root for this dude but now to me he just another player on another team.

Drew Brees will reportedly head to NBC after his playing days are over

Drew Brees will reportedly head to NBC after his playing days are over

Drew Brees isn’t ready to say goodbye to his football career just yet, but when the time comes to hang up his helmet, he knows where he’ll be headed next.

According to the New York Post, Brees has signed a broadcast deal with NBC Sports, set to kick in when he retires from the Saints. Per the Post, Brees picked NBC over ESPN, where he is expected to be game analyst for Notre Dame football and a studio analyst for Sunday Night Football.

Brees, 41, recently signed a two-year deal with the Saints but there’s a very real chance the upcoming season, whenever it actually starts, could be his last with New Orleans.

The Post also reports that Brees would be groomed to be the potential replacement for Cris Collinsworth, though there’s no word on whether or not he’ll do Collinsworth’s patented slide.
“Like all NFL fans, we look forward to watching Drew continue his Hall of Fame career this fall, and we are confident his post-playing career will be just as successful,” NBC Sports spokesman Greg Hughes told The Post.
Brees picking NBC over ESPN is also being seen as another miss for the World Wide Leader. CBS has found gold with Tony Romo, Peyton Manning has reportedly said no to Monday Night Football and now Bress is out too. Maybe they can see if Eli is available. Or hey, maybe Tom Brady will need to pick up some extra work after his time in Tampa Bay.

Do we take a chance on Netane Muti a 1st round G with injury history?

I was thinking about muti and saffold came to mind. scaffold was very injury pron until they moved him to guard, operated on his shoulders and had him quit lifting such heavy weights. seems like I remember hearing all this changes then scaffold became very durable

It's different because Saffold's injuries were his shoulders; Muti's, his Achilles. But I can't help but see the talent this kid has, and as you probably know by my mocks, I mostly go for upside because I trust McVay to coach them up.

I see Muti as a great center after he's cross-trained. His mobility and strength are just not meant to be put together. Trust me, I love Biadasz, Hennessey, Ruiz, Robert Hunt. Muti's potential exceeds theirs, in my honest opinion.

Will post Reynolds later in the spring.

Greg

Thanks Greg... this is very cool.

BTW.... I spent several years attending Cole HS. If that 1982 in your name is a birthdate, well, that means I was at that school about the time you were born. I loved it in San Antonio. Although it snowed once (1st time I ever saw snow), so it gets way too cold for me there. Plus, the only water I could find was at Canyon lake and that wasn't all that close. If it wasn't for those things... SA would be perfect.

Eric Dickerson vs Dallas playoffs 1985

Tom Landry’s last playoff game and we sent him home bloody and beaten.

Wow, I didn't realize that little tidbit - thanks!

For other trivia, if anyone is interested:

- Roger Staubach's last game as a pro was a playoff loss to the Rams, in Dallas (the Ferragamo-to-Waddy game ... God that was awesome)
- Fran Tarkenton's last game as a pro was a 34-10 thumping by the Rams in a playoff game at the Coliseum the year prior to the Dallas game with Staubach.

Those two were both the Rams nemesis in the 1970's, and it pleases me to no end that it was the Rams that ushered them out the door on their careers.

Ravens GM: There are 25 'draftable' WRs in the 2020 NFL Draft

Ravens GM Eric DeCosta: There are 25 'draftable' WRs in the 2020 NFL Draft

The Baltimore Ravens spent the early parts of free agency, ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft, bolstering their defense. The additions of Calais Campbell via a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Derek Wolfe in free agency along with Baltimore re-signing a bunch of their own players should boost a defense that ranked fourth in yards allowed last season. But for all the Ravens did defensively already, they haven’t addressed any of their offensive needs.

One such need is at wide receiver, where Baltimore has historically been lacking elite talent. At the Ravens’ pre-draft press conference, general manager Eric DeCosta said he feels there are receivers on the roster ready to “make another jump.” However, he acknowledged the coaches and scouts have “found some guys they’re excited about” in the 2020 NFL Draft. In total, DeCosta said, “there’s probably 25 draftable wideouts in this draft.”

Baltimore would be foolish to not take advantage of that level of depth in this draft class. With quarterback Lamar Jackson winning the NFL’s MVP award last season, now is the time to surround him with even more talent and maximize the offense’s potential.

The Ravens tried to address their wide receiver woes last year, taking Marquise Brown in the first round and Miles Boykin in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Brown had a solid season in spite of an injury-ridden year and Boykin made the occasional big splash. With Baltimore re-signing Willie Snead and Chris Moore, most of the primary group from last season is set to return for 2020.

However, the Ravens’ passing attack struggled to move the ball at times last season when the run game was stymied as well. Though far less frequently than in previous years, untimely drops once again popped up for the pass catchers as well. While Baltimore has a decent group of wide receivers, there’s a clear need to find more depth and even find another top option opposite Brown.

As the Ravens have found out in recent years, resting on their laurels at the position has put them in a massive hole. Previously, Baltimore would drop few draft selections at wide receiver and then largely ignore the position with the hope someone would pan out. When that didn’t happen, the Ravens had to turn to older players as stop-gap solutions, asking them to do far too much and getting rather mediocre results in return.

Finding a starting-caliber wide receiver should be easy to do in the 2020 NFL Draft with some of the top options potentially being true No. 1 guy. If Baltimore has identified so many wide receivers they like, they need to ensure they land one or two of them in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Added benefit of trading two 1st round picks for Jalen Ramsey

Your comments made me think... I wonder how much analysis paralysis happens down the stretch preparing for a draft? And... if so, just like most of us, overthink things?

Does the lockdown help prevent that?

These guys are pros. Probably not a lot of last minute board shuffling... but you do hear stories.
It may enhance it since scouts didn't go to the combine. Maybe they were planning to focus more on Pro days, but since that's not happening, it's all film and Skype calls. Makes it difficult to gauge personality and ambitions. Hopefully, they find some nasty...tired of these softer, technical lineman.

Dates in History

there is no way Jim Rome wanted that to happed. No man says, “throw the table over then I will cower like a little girl and collapse on the floor, that’ll do wonders for my career!”

Man... I want you to be right about that.

Every time I watch it though... I can't help but to notice Everett smiling. Plus, if I'm throwing over a table to get to someone... once I got my hands on him I'd actually inflict some damage.

I believe "that man" (rome) would do it in order to get some ratings. I believe that little poser would do damn near ANYTHING for em in fact.

Please tell me that I've missed something over the years that proves my suspicion wrong here. I really WANT to be wrong! PLEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSEEE
