GAME DAY Thanksgiving Day Football - Game Day Thread

I realize the circumstances … Holiday, time of day, Dallas, tradition.

Still though. A game where the starting quarterbacks were Drew Lock and Cooper Rush will be the most watched Regular Season game of 2024. WOW!

Turkey/Black Friday Game Day Menu

Our Leftover Turkey will be picked clean by Sunday. We have a houseful till Monday. So I went to my butcher and ordered 7 Ribeye's and got some baking Potatoes for the grill. For the game we will have snacks and stuffed Jalapenos and my wife's pumpkin pie tarts.
I'm on ice tonight because I just finished hanging the Christmas lights outside. Harder than it use to be. My sons are out chopping wood so my back should be sore until they are finished... lol
Happy Thanksgiving Rams Fans
Life is good.

5 Thoughts After Eagles (the sky isn't falling, don't worry)

You can see the potential of McClendon.
There are times he looks really good. But he has technical flaws and guys with technique issues, unless they are total freak athletes, get drafted where McClendon got drafted.
To quote my nephew, who does some fighting as a kick boxing; "Training is not fighting." A guy can work on it and work on it in practice and come game time, against different players with different skills of their own, its easy to revert back to the bad technique. Changing techniques takes a lot of time if it in ingrained.
I still like McClendon as a depth piece going forward at RT, not LT but RT. As for now, if he is playing this year on pure passing downs he will need help. If he can keep the rusher in front of him and get his hands on them he usually does well. I remember him stone walling Young vs the Whiners multiple times last year.
Its frustrating but takes time.
you like McClendon? really? If we had a mobile QB thats a different story but with Matthew Stafford back there we need wayy better even as a backup tackle. He has been the weak link every time he’s suited up and it screws up the whole line. We need a tight end to chip his guy otherwise forget about anything longer than a 2 step drop. McVay needs to go “12” or “13” with this guy-so freaking stubborn man

Clock rules

Do you have a source? I can only find out of bounds. There is no clarity to sideways or backwards that I could locate. Generally speaking backwards typically happens when forward progress stops in the field of play and the player is pushed back. Officials will keep that clock moving in that scenario.

I’ve seen a couple times where a player runs backwards to get out of bounds to elude hits or defenders.
No source but from watching games and listening to announcers - that's the rule.

As to going backwards, that is wholly contingent on the player running backwards when they go out of bounds.

I remember Beckham purposely running backwards when he went out of bounds to keep the clock running when they had a lead.

If forward progress is stopped while inbounds - the refs will keep the clock running even if the runner is pushed out of bounds.

Depends on if the runner's forward progress is stopped. Judgement call by the refs.

WR end around runs

I have been wondering the same thing. Our WR end arounds was a staple of our offense in the SB year, including a HUGE 4th down end around with Kupp in the SB. I've even noticed the lack of screen plays recently. Would be nice to use either of these every once and a while to keep the D honest.

Oh yeah, and a deep shot to Tutu every so often wouldn't hurt.
I’m really not getting the Tutu usage. He is truly limited on contested balls but he seems to find space across the middle. Seems like a perfect option when Nacua/Kupp are blanketed but Stafford seems to prefer to laser passes through mouse holes.

GAME DAY SNF - Eagles at Rams Game Day Thread

100% - still waiting for somebody in the Ram's media to call him on this shit.

Atwell should be taking half of Robinson's snaps, and probably about 10-20% of Kupp's to keep him fresh.
I agree with everything that you are posting here InfiniteRam.

McVay has got to be able to figure out that the perpetual problem of slow starts is a clear sign that opponents have locked onto Rams' schemes, tactics, playcalling and personnel.

We've become utterly predictable and defences know exactly what to expect.

Early in the game, you've got o take some deep shot to back off the safeties, corners and linebackers in order to create vertical spacing and put the fear of getting beat deep in the minds of the defence.

Instead , we continually dink and dunk in the midrange blended with prototypical, uninspiring run plays, no reverses, no screens, no misdirection plays and absolutely no trick plays, no prospect of quick strike td's.

Our whole game is centred around short to mid-range catches followed by YAC.

Since we have also have Offensive Coordinator Mike Lafleur along with McVay on a headset, I'm unsure if McVay is the one calling the plays. I suspect that McVay does, because he so often apologizes post game after losses for not putting the team in the best position to win.

Anyway, it doesn't matter. McVay has consistently shown an unwillingness to change his pattern of playcalling and frankly he should give up these duties. Coaches can have core football beliefs and philosophies, but they have to blend these with flexibility and a willingness to adjust on the fly.

He is a fine leader of men with exceptional football knowledge. He is a talented coach whose players believe in him and play hard for him.

But there's no denying that his playcalling and use of personnel has now grown stale.

He talks about explosive plays, but fails to use the player (Atwell) most able to deliver those plays, likely due to McVay's obsession with big receivers who can block.

As a consequence, teams lock onto our intermediate passing game without the need to defend the deep ball. We fail to make them stretch to defend every inch of turf.

Slow starts and red zone struggles can be signs of deficiencies in personnel, but in McVay's case they are symptomatic of predictable, unimaginative, uninspiring playcalling and an inadequate use of personnel.

McVay can then focus on overseeing the entire team.

Pass Blocking - How to fix it?

And its not a great draft for pure LTs from what I can gather. More RT types, so Jackson might have to stay at LT and any swing T would mostly be a RT.

Maybe the answer next yr fir a swing OT is to sign a veteran who has experience at LT as a reserve.
Id do that this year too. Christian was signed to the PS and I think grabbed by someone else.
He has plenty of starting experience and could provide solid depth at LT.
There are vet players out there like that.

How long before…

Anyone watching the Rams, who has watched them since day one of McVay, can clearly see how stale this offensive system has become. He has either chosen not to adapt, or is unable too. Good teams find ways to win with marginal talent at certain positions, and with injuries.

He will not have an endless leash - no one ever does.

It’s so stale, there are new coaches every year trying to replicate it.

Also, not to put too fine a point on it, but the last two seasons we’ve had record levels of injuries and still made the playoffs last season and there’s a slight chance we do again this season.

This team perfectly healthy is a tough out for any team.

Critically Acclaimed Films That Actually Sucked

Lord of the Rings trilogy has gotta be among the best movie series I've ever seen. Top notch acting. Good special effects. Good story line. Sean Astin was at his best in this one. And he's had some good ones. The Hobbit movies were great too. I have no idea what critics think about them. I don't pay attention to them. I just know what I like.
