How do incentives affect the Salary Cap?

Incentives are written into some contracts to pay a player for reaching certain performance criteria. Incentives come in two varieties – Likely To Be Earned (LTBE) and Not Likely To Be Earned (NLTBE) – each of which has different Salary Cap implications.

Likely To Be Earned Incentives (LTBE) are incentives based on performance levels that were reached in the prior season. LTBEs count against the Salary Cap in the year they are scheduled.

For example, if a RB ran for 1,200 yards last year and he has an incentive that will pay him $100,000 if he runs for 1,000 yards this year, the incentive would be a LTBE Incentive and would count against the Salary Cap this year.

On the other hand, if the RB ran for 1,000 yards last year and he has an incentive that will pay him $100,000 if he runs for 1,200 yards this year, then incentive would be Not Likely To Be Earned (NLTBE) and would not count against this year’s Salary Cap.

If the player does not earn a LTBE Incentive, then the amount of the incentive ($100K in our example) will be credited against the following year’s Salary Cap and the team would have $100K in additional Cap space in the following year.

The opposite happens with NLTBE Incentives. If those are earned, they are charged to the following year’s Salary Cap. In our example, that would mean that the team would have $100K less in Cap space the following year.

I'm hoping Coen is a better OC than KoC was. KoC deserves a ton of cred but I don't look at him as some amazing OC who got away. He got the job done which is what's important but hopefully Coen will get the job done too and score the most points through the season doing it. I know I'm a spoiled dickhead fan now but why not have a dominant Super Bowl win this year where they fucking dismantle teams.

Anyway Coen seems like a smart dude with some good comm skills to him. Very hopeful with this hire that the offense is about to explode. There's reasons to expect that across the board this year, from the talent on the field to the staff itself, with Olson returning too. Rams should be crushing gameplans this year.

I am on page 2, and I agree with pretty much everyone in this thread. What a great dicussion to even be having. Just think how far this team has come. We're discussing the merits of our 3rd string WR..... I think back to when Brandon Gibson was our #1. Life for Rams fans is so much fun right now.

He wasn't a Saint, but then neither was Deacon Jones....but still love the guy.

Not sure which is more infuriating...the hold on Jefferson before the half or the one early in the 4Q on 3rd-and-7. Apple has a hold of his arm on that one...the back is crossed over Jeff's arm on the earlier one, keeping him from getting a second hand up for the catch.

Nick Scott Was Ready To Start For Rams When Called Upon In Playoffs​

The Los Angeles Rams won Super Bowl LVI, but an underrated aspect of their run was their depth pieces stepping up when called upon.

There was no greater example of this than Nick Scott, who stepped into a starting safety role after the Rams lost Jordan Fuller and Taylor Rapp to injury. Alongside Eric Weddle, Scott provided much-needed coverage in the middle of the field and played a crucial part in the postseason.

Scott was willing to do what was asked of him but admitted he knew he could contribute more if given the opportunity, via Peter King of NBC Sports/a>:

“When you go out into the world, you’re going to be part of a team. Teams are great, teamwork is great. You embrace your role on that team, but never settle for the role you have. When I got to the Rams, I know they were thinking of me as a special-teams player, but I was thinking of myself as more than that. No one saw the work I was putting in during the offseason when no one was looking. So when I finally got called on to start, I was ready. I knew I could do it.”

Scott was a core member of the special teams unit who played sparingly on the defensive side of the field until the injuries hit. Los Angeles has a knack for being able to develop players to play more meaningful snaps, and Scott is another case of them finding talent to mold around their star core of players.
Heading into the 2022 season, Fuller is expected to resume his starting role, though it is an open question as to whether or not it will be Rapp or Scott lining up opposite of him. It might be a situation to monitor during training camp, but at this point, Scott has definitely earned more playing time.

Raheem had some stars in that defense so he sucks.

Agreed. Also he is entering that stage where he should know enough to be able to use more of the pocket protection, which is what allows for a longer career. But to do that he must read and win from the pocket.

So I figure he will get paid. Then his team will try to turn him into a pocket QB to preserve him. Then he will end up getting cut for cap savings as the team realizes they are paying a great RB with a power arm.

But unlike Spruce he's talented. Might end up being more Brian Quick but there's time. The guy got hurt.

I'm rooting for him but it's hard to say if the injury has permanently sapped some of his athleticism without seeing him in action. Gotta imagine the Rams will keep an eye out on the RB market if our RB room isn't as productive on the field or injuries hit again. We have a lot of potential back there but they've also all been injury prone thanks to the nature of the position.

Well Imo AJ Dillion 2021 #62 could have been The Rams at #57.

Rams drafted Cam Akers #52

Just saying that would have really made The Rams the deepest team in The NFL Bar-none. Of course at that time The Rams had Malcom Brown who was a Big RG.
I liked Dillion coming out of BC.He was a guy I could have seen The Rams drafting if needed. Green Bay really scouts well.
Van Jefferson should have a break out season & when you look at where the NFL is at as far as passing games go The Rams could be the best?

In the playoffs Cam Akers looked real bad in pass pro.I think D.Henderson is a solid 3rd down RB because he is so diverst. His 3rd down catch in the SuperBowl & his running skills really shined.I think he gets overlooked & if he doesn’t come of the IR to play in that game.The Rams lose.

Last season at this time I thought Cam Akers had a shot at being one of The Best RB’s in the NFL. Have to say Johnathan Taylor was the RB I wanted to trade up for. Could he have been had for #52 & #57 at say #40 with Houston?
Well in 2022 The Rams are ready to roll.In 2023 Cam Akers & who else?Right now there is a little uncertainty for 2023.Williams could be an excellent find? The SJ39 story is a fairytale type if he becomes a solid Ram RB.
