Only the rarest of drafts have that. Last one I can recall, only one really in my draft following history was 1983. But yes that would increase our odds of jumping up to get one.
I still think McVay will find a QB who has the tools he wants, who falls outside that early going range. I suspect they were going to take Dart last draft for example, no proof of it just my suspicion. But it will be someone like him, who is a bit better than the team groupthink ranks him. There is usually one of those types every couple drafts or so. Prob with McVay is he cannot settle for the guy with the iffy arm, as he has the soul of a Coryell OC and prioritizes stretching the field.
Complication now is LT raising its ugly fucking head yet again. I do not trust Jackson. We have everything this season except for maybe the top CB cover man. This is a title roster. But if Jackson can't be depended upon we are fucked. So if things go that route I expect one of our first round picks will be prioritized for LT if at all possible.
My key phrase was "perceived" blue-chip QBs. I'm well aware that nearly 50% of even top-5 QBs flame out and weren't in actuality blue-chip QBs, but at the moment they were drafted, they were perceived to be franchise QBs.
As Dieterbrock stated, 2024 saw 6 QBs drafted in the first 12 picks.
In 2023, there were 3 QBs in the top 5.
In 2021, there were 4 in the top 11.
In 2020, there were 3 in the top 6.
In 2018, there were 4 in the top 10.
In 2012, there were 3 in the top 8.
We can hope that 2026 is a draft like 2024, where there are 3-5 plus perceived franchise QBs. If that happens, chances are higher that one they like is available between 6-12, which is a range they could move up to. Once you start talking about jumping into the top 5, it's gonna be difficult.
You may be right that they might like a Dart type. I have an opposite suspicion. It seems to me that McSnead (a combo of Snead and McVay's MO) likes making major moves when it comes to the most important position. On the Stafford and Goff acquisitions, they were not afraid to trade multiple 1sts to get the top available QB. I suspect making a major and aggressive move up will be their preference.
