What is Stafford retires after this season? Would we want to sign Garoppolo to an extension and go into next year with him as our starting QB? We could do worse.
I wouldn't be fine with Stafford retiring but if he did, I'd be fine with JG taking over (give him a 3 year contract and find the heir apparent asap) with Bennett backing him up. Particularly if Bennett looks as good next week as he did this week. But lets not get the cart ahead of the horse. Stafford plays this year and next.

He threw 60+ balls Saturday and was supposed to be out there again today. But no, he'$ in street clothes. Not good.

Hate to quote you for this @bubbaramfan (nothing but respect), but if he could throw 60+ balls on Saturday, do you think he could throw 60+ balls in the opener?
Oh, that's right! He won't have to.

I dont know about walking around gingerly, but I did see Stafford walking fine then he sees the camera smiles and grabs his back. I know I dont smile when my back acts up. I would be very surprised if Stafford missed week 1.

Nope, at this point Stafford should not risk it.

1. I wonder what kind of mess this would have created if the Rams had gotten some team to give up a first or second round pick for Stafford this past winter.

2. It sure would be sweet if the Rams won a Super Bowl with Garapolo. That’s something Shanahan couldn’t do. Niners fans would be livid.

3. This likely means McVay and the staff are going to have to coach their butts off. They won’t have the luxury of having a genius level QB making no look passes. They will have to adjust the offense to Garapolo’s strengths and weaknesses. I hope the defense is as good as we think they are.

Its not that Stafford cant practice. It isnt worth the risk of making it worse now, Stafford will play through it. But why make it any worse? Did any of you watch the game? Did anyone see Stafford walking around fine, no limp, no stiff back just smiles? There is still over 3 weeks to game 1. If Stafford misses game 1 then it may be time to panic, but right now let the backups get the reps and let Stafford work through his back issue.

i still think he'll be fine...

he wouldn't be playing anyways and he's been around enough to know how to throw a football...

i'm betting a rusty matt stafford is better than anything else we got...

if the issue is a real problem, and maybe worsens, then this is probably his last year...

if so, we go find a good vet, and let him and jimmy g compete for the job...

no problems, just solutions...

go rams

hmmm... very suss...
I'm wondering if they're just trying to give him max time off & working around some NFLPA rules.
This is different from Gurley's situation, who was trying to hide how badly he was limping in the offseason.
Anyway guess we'll find out soon enough.

I'm probably in the minority but I really believe this team can win and go far with a Garoppolo / Bennett combination with more focus on the running game and the front 7 on defense playing lights out.
They can win games with Garoppolo. Problem is his injury history. Not sure we can count on him for 17 games. I would not be comfortable with Bennett as our starter for a stretch of games. Even with the good game on Saturday. After the first two years with him one game ain't enough to convince me.

For sure!
While his performance was encouraging, he's got a long way to go before being a legit option. 1 good pre-season game means very little. Now if Winn plays the majority of the next 2 games it says more about what the Rams think
Meaning, the less Bennett plays, the higher the Rams are on him
