Multiple people have said the Rams were asking the Giants and Raiders for this year's 2md and next year's 1st. Then that video of Eisen he says the Giants met both Staffords money request and the Rams price.
I believe the giants did meet the asking price (whatever that actually was).

I'm just saying if the Rams/Stafford ever really seriously pondered it is another story.

That's assuming they couldn't come to an agreement with Stafford. It's not like they would have jumped at that, but it probably was the best they were going to get for a 37 yr old QB that might be a 2 year rental at best. Especially after teams saw how the Jets were burned with Rodger's and Denver with Wilson.
I don’t think anyone looks at Rodgers or Wilson and sees Stafford. Stafford didn’t have a great statistical year but it’s very obvious what he can mean to a team.

Everyone has their view on what a deal would have looked like. But I haven’t seen anyone outside of a few fans that think Staff could have been had for a 2nd round pick or that the Rams would be willing to buckle to that degree.

I don’t care what theories are out there but when someone states that it was known (not you), I want to see credible evidence.

So I imagine it goes something like this.

Sean: So the Giants met your price and met ours. Do you really want to play there?
Matt: No not really! Think we can work it out because I'd rather be here?

Sean: Sounds good because we never wanted to trade you we just said we'd go through the process.

That I’ve seen. My contention was with the notion that the Rams were willing to accept the 34th pick as the compensation. I don’t buy that for a second and haven’t seen any credible people saying it.
Well I'll add my .02... I read that the Giants offered the 34th this year and a 4th also in 2025 and, finally, a 2nd in 2026.
Seems more credible though I don't recall who said this....

It does make sense that Stafford never wanted to leave. He could go to one of two teams. Get paid. Get beat up for 17 games. If he makes it that far. Sit at home for the playoffs. Or stay with a team built to contend for a title. These guys don't get to be among the best in the world if they don't have pride and a big ego. Stafford's legacy is in LA. Another Superbowl title and he's a first ballot Hall of Famer. From what I've heard and read that is an important goal of his.

Yeah not sure how accurate some of those reports are...

McVay said Stafford was really never close to leaving (watch the videos).

We have to remember a lot of the "insiders" were saying Stafford was likely gone.

Not sure they have earned our trust on knowing what really happened on this one.
I watched all of the videos. McVay never said "he was really never close to leaving." McVay said, "I didn't allow myself to think about him leaving."

Totally different things.

CORRECTION EDIT: Apparently, I hadn't seen all of the videos. I hadn't seen the one where McVay said it never really got close. So I stand corrected.

At the 8:30 mark of McVay's presser yesterday (on the Rams' team site), he was asked whether there was ...
'A point at all in the last week or two where you thought Matthew might not be on your team next year'

McVay's response was ...
'No, no that was something that I never thought would occur'

How can something said be credible if you don't know who said it?

And i never thought we'd trade him but we've heard coach speak like this before from McVay.

(paraphrase) "No one thought for a second that it would only take a 34the pick for Stafford." ~ @RamFan503

Of course.

Hmmm,

Was this a sign that Sean was in denial more than a sign of justified confidence?
Just a different form of coach speak?

Regardless, coach saying he's "sleeping better" now that Stafford is back would seem to suggest that coach felt a measure of doubt/uncertainty..

Double regardless, Staff's back, let's save some stuff for this time, next year!

Who said Stafford was likely gone? All I remember is EVERYONE saying that he was likely staying but he could go. I think Allbright had one tweet last week that was like the longer this goes, the more I think he might go.
