Ran my first 5k today...didnt really get too much running time in due to kidney stone issue and an ankle injury so I walked the first mile (with wifey) and ran the rest of the way... total time was 36:01

Now I have a target time to beat for next one !!!

Well done Rhody! Always nice to have a benchmark to beat for next time out. Sorry to hear about the stones but glad to hear you are sticking with it.

new time of 32:24 today

have signed up for yet another 5k next week...trying for under 30 minutes

I just actually started running after finally quitting smoking 6 months ago. Mostly just tread mill right now, but did go up to local track yesterday and did a little over 2 miles there. Gotta say it is alot different than running on a treadmill

Good job to quit smoking.......this October it'll be 4 years since I did it.

My first official, timed, proper 10k this morning... aiming for 55-57 minutes. Will report back soon...!

My buddy wants me to run a 10k with him in October. . one week before my 50th....haven't decided yet

Rams have a bye week that week also LOL
Nice priorities!! Haha

In all seriousness, nothing pumps up pre-game like a race!!! Endorphins kick in, really have free reign on calories, earned that extra beer or 5....

I've signed up for a half marathon in October. 21k!!!
21.13 actually. Dont kid yourself, that last 100 meters is a killer!!!

On a side note, I hate that they call them "half" marathons. As if 13.1 is "half" of anything

well yeah...13.1 is half of 26.2...unless my math is wrong !!!

did 3.94 miles today..a little over 43 minutes..but my longest full run to date...no stopping and walking for 1/2 a mile LOL

Ran Cross Country starting in 7th grade all the way through high school.
Best time I ever ran (3.1 mi): 17:35
I also ran a half marathon in 1:54:54 as a junior in high school.

I graduated a year ago and haven't ran a cross country meet in a year and a half.
I always told myself I'd never do a half marathon again, but I miss the pain and being in shape.

Nice job. Just increase the distance on the long run once a week even by just a quarter mile.

As for the "half" bit I hate the name. They don't call a 5k half of a 10k etc. to me it just sounds demeaning that it's only half of something.
And on the other hand, 13.1 is far from the half way point of a marathon. Most people say that 20 miles is the half way point to the runner. I happen to think the last 6.2 is harder than the first 20

Rhody you are doing great. Like a lot of beginners I used the Hal Higdon training program and I felt it was really easy to stick with. You gradually increase over 3 mos and the most you run in 10 miles on your long runs. You don't need to go the full 13.1 when training. You will actually run faster on race day than you think. It is an unbelievable feeling the first time you finish. Keep going man it is worth it and you will have such a sense of accomplishment.

I meant to post this earlier. I got my medal in April from the Little Rock Marathon. Here is my oldest showing it off.
