So, if Akers plays well and hits free agency, then he could get the Vikings a 2024 6th round comp. Which is more value than what they traded to get him.

I guess it gets some money off the books?

Pretty obvious the Rams NEEDED him OUT of the RB room instead of minuscule $$ saved.

This is all just my assumptions so can't say for sure but I think it's just a 180 to us because the Rams keep things extremely tight in house much to the chagrin of some fans and media. So things might seem one way with a player and out of no where they are done with them but I'd say there has already been a long process internally of working with the player and coaches.

Not to say McVay isn't impatient and he's obviously a bit of a perfectionist, likely to a fault at times, but I just can't imagine he's all hunky dory with a player one day and they come in the next and he's suddenly shunning them and throwing them to the curb. I do think he rides players hard mentally though. They try their best to only bring in mentally tough and mature players (as alluded when they say "what we're looking for" when discussing locker room) but when they can't hack it anymore he's not afraid to jettison them.

Because of all that this won't be the last time the Rams pull the ripcord on a player seemingly out of no where to us. After experiencing the years before McVay when we had a team full of mental midgets I'm ok with his hard ass approach.

There's a good chance that Akers is out of the league by the time we utilize the pick swap.

Traded Akers for a pack of gum. Good deal. I expect him to do well with the Vikings and run with an edge. Just not a good fit for the Rams.

Is it possible that Akers is dealing with some kind of mental illness that manifests as immaturity? He has derailed his career and made some questionable decisions - such as adding so much weight after he looked so good at the tail end of last season. Why did he never develop as a blocker or route runner out of the backfield? I wish him well and thank him for his contributions including some excellent games even if overall he wasn’t quite good enough

I think your actually going to find that Cam Akers will be better off with Kevin O’Connell than with Sean Mcvay.
He has a relationship with Cam & willl lookout for his best interest.IMO he will be the Vikings leading rusher & still go over 1,000 yards.(don’t know why I want to keep believing that?).He will have A lot to prove.

I do see some similarities to Cam Akers & Tre Mason from a far.To think what happened to T.Mason was Sad.I honestly think Cam Akers didn’t want to except playing behind(2nd string) Kyren Williams was his biggest issue.
— He showed a willingness to block after what happened during the 1st. Half of last season.

With all the recent injuries to NFL RBs the last few weeks, I figured we could get at least a 4th for Akers. I guess it shows what other teams think of him, because there are a few teams with injuries at RB.

Agreed. I thought a straight up 6th was the floor and a quality player (Edge, Backup QB) swap was the ceiling.

Bizarre handling of players goes back with this regime and front office tbh. Remember them paying Ogletree before they had fully gotten Wade's approval on him? That seemed like it was a situation of the front office inking him without making sure everyone was on the same page. Then the sudden reversal and he's dealt.

I think Cooks was simply McVay thinking "this isn't the guy" and being frustrated by the failure in the big game. Same with Goff and Gurley. Gurley in particular he backed during that Super Bowl run there at the end and didn't give the better RB the carries during the SB and I still think it might have cost him a title. Goff felt a bit like Ogletree to me, where maybe the front office got the deal done when McVay was still sorting what went wrong.

Robinson I still think was just too old and set in his ways, maybe even too stupid, to learn the nuance in this offense. That's definitely one of the misses I was fully behind.

But overall if you line up the production vs decisions McVay has been at his worst with the RB room. His decision making with that room has been fucking terrible. IMO. Great coach. Hall of Fame future and I think he is the best in today's league but he's human and has plenty of flaws. For example RB and OL feel like positions where, if he doesn't have a top coach in place, he is flying blind a lot of times.

If we see him in a couple years, doing drill in his mom's front yard, preparing for his nfl return....I'd say good chance.
 
Well I always said Akers was injury prone. Sucks for him to get injured. Just happy it didn't happen again while with the Rams. We got enough of our own problems.
