Good signing, so very glad they didn't listen to some of ROD and franchise tag him.
Glad they listened to me when I start banging the table for them give him an extension towards the end of the '23 season.

So are we better off now or if we would have extended him last season? I’m guessing we could have gotten him cheaper but by how much? I think it was the right move even though it likely cost us millions.

Better off now. He's not done ascending. Gave the Rams one more season (last year) to evaluate how they feel.

To me, it helped solidify they didn't do a bad deal.

Did anyone really want him to be franchised instead of re-signed?
Or did they just realize that the franchise tag was just the last resort to keep him if they couldn't come to terms?

No there were people saying don't risk it franchise tag him we're going to pay him that much or more anyways.

We even got him cheaper than the tag.

Methinks he also did not like the ballpark numbers his agent was getting from teams at the combine
I don't think that's the case. I think it's his love for the Rams, Stafford is back and the Rams have been patient with him with his suspensions and leave of absence for personal reasons.

He's repaying them in a way by taking less than he likely would've gotten in the open market.

Ok. But I don't get it. Seems to me the risk would be losing him if they couldn't come to terms.
The Rams had a price in mind and it was obviously below the franchise tag price. It's also pretty obvious that they'd already had talks with him and his agent. Guessing that led them to know they didn't need to franchise tag him. So the worry and call around here for him to be franchised wasn't necessary and unrealistic.

I see what you are saying as far as what may have appeared to happen.

It just sounded like you were saying that some ROD members wanted him franchised just for the sake of franchising him and with no regard to a possible re-signing instead of using the tag as a last resort just to make sure they keep him if they couldn't come to terms.
