I don't, but the key is what does McSnead thinks. But I'll say it again if the are in love with a QB on the board at #26, they would be foolish to pass on said player.

Have to remember, unlike some teams they don't need a guy to step in and play yr 1 or mayve even in yr 2. So they will be investing in a set of skills and intangibles that they like and feel that they can mold into a good QB. They are not looking for a plug & play prospect.

So they are looking more at a longterm investment as compared to something that will pay off immediately.

So could there be a player that meets that criteria and is worthy of that investment at 26 or say 33 after a trade down? Maybe.

Their criteria is clearly different than many on ROD.

I agree that they would be looking at someone to coach up and mold that could take over in 26 or 27 - not 25. That could make a huge difference in who they see as a potential franchise player. It may be someone who has only played one or two seasons of college ball. It may be someone completely outside of our radar.

I don’t do the whole mock draft thing. Aside from the first few picks, almost NO ONE gets it “right”.

So it wouldn’t surprise me at all for the Rams to take a QB high in the draft.

Drafting a QB with their first pick doesn’t help the Rams win the Super Bowl in the next two years. They need to draft a few players that can help them accomplish that. Take a QB later. None of these QBs are great and all are more likely not to succeed as viable starters.

100% with you on this one. If we don't get one in the 5th-6th round don't want a QB this year, we don't force it and go the 2026 route.

Plenty of damned good prospects that should be coming out in 2026-2027. You don't force anything go the route where someone falls to you or trade up if you are that convinced of the prospects talent in a strong QB class.

The 2025 QB draft is fools gold, especially with the likes we'll have to pick from.

The skill set that cant be measured is the one between the ears. Plenty of players have the physical attributes. The real question is if a QB can be truly developed, as most are thrown in to terrible circumstances and not given a true chance to succeed. I think several of the QB in this draft could gain incredible experience as the 3rd QB, watching and learning from Stafford and Garoppolo.
If Shanahan can make a star out of Purdy, why cant McVay do the same with a similar or more talented player who isnt even rushed to play like Purdy. Cousins had success, I could definitely see McVay developing a Cousins 2.0

I agree with this. He is one of the only QB's that we could pick that would almost certainly contribute something this year. McVay did mention he wanted to have a more versatile offense, this would do the trick.

Yeah, Milroe is the guy I'd take a chance on in the 3rd if he agrees to be a gadget guy for the 1st 2 years.

So far to go as a QB he may never get there but if he's open to being a weapon you can at least get something out of him.

They drafted Bennett to be a John Wolford backup, if they draft a QB its to see if they can make a Montana (Fuck Purdy and Brady)

You both raise good points on how to obtain Stafford's replacement. As Snead said, it's not gonna be easy no matter what path is taken.

I wouldn't force a QB pick in a bad draft though just because the need is acute. The pertinent question I'm still asking is "is there any skillset where he will become a franchise-caliber QB after a year or two of development." I'm not seeing any that I'd say that on.

Rather than forcing a pick in a bad draft, I recommend the Rams wait until a strong QB draft and then take the Chiefs 2017 path (or even the Ram's 2016 path) to finding their future franchise QB. The Julio Jones trade is another case in point. With the Julio Jones and Mahomes trades, teams moved from the bottom of the 1st round to #6 and #10 respectively.

I'd rather make a major move in a good QB draft than throw some darts in a bad QB draft.

That's my point. The Rams can develop a guy for 1-2 years, that's how I'd judge a player's "mental processing"

I can see judging some of it on whether they have an opportunity to develop for 1-2 years but a lot of it is based on college tape. Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes had both demonstrated abilities to read defenses and make plays in the pocket while in college. They already possessed the mental part.

I'll give you Jordan Love. It was reported that he was raw and hadn't demonstrated the ability to read defenses yet.

Patrick Mahomes was viewed by some at best as a project and many criticized the Chiefs for the pick. Strong arm but threw a lot of INT.
Talk about a "bad QB draft" year, that was it and look what happened? Trubisky was a bust and both Mahomes and Watson were at best "projects"
Rodgers fell prey to some thinking that he was just a product of Jeff Tedford, a "system" guy.
As is often the case, hindsight is the "best" way to look at a QB class.
I personally think Ward is a sure fire star in the making, but see a lot of potential in other players given the chance to sit and learn.

It’s very similar imo. Even the top two guys have a lot of warts.

Look at some of those QBs from that draft. I think they mix right in with the top five QBs in this one. Drew Stanton, Jordan Palmer, Troy Smith, Brady Quinn, Kevin Kolb, Jamarcus Russell. They were some successful college QBs that all had some warts just like this group.

In regards to this current group, trading a third round pick for Joe Milton may be the best bet.

26 seems way too rich for a questionable QB like Dart. But if they feel he’s the guy, then you hope they know. But I’d pass if I were them.

Tyler Shough is a guy I’m building interest in. If he were there at 101 (or better yet in the 4th), I think he could be worth the gamble if they like him. He could potentially step right in next year or 2027 - let him learn 1-2 years.
