I recall when McVay rested the players before the playoff game against the Failclowns, it was a disaster. That may have left a bad taste in his mouth and a lesson learned.

If we rest starters like everyone in here says, I think the Hawks probably slaughter us. I believe that drops us to the 4th seed?
Yes, but I think if TB loses too we keep 3? Not that I'm expecting the Saints to do us any favors...

starters haven't had a week off since week 5

compared to other playoff years past when their bye weeks were in weeks 8-12

Seattle going to be aggressive, just to prove a point.

I say rest the integral starters

The offense sure could use the reps. They do not look sharp lately. The problem is, our key offensive pieces are all older and got banged up at various points this season (Havenstein, Kupp, Stafford) or are younger and play a very physical style (Puka, Williams) such that they tend to get hurt, play high injury rate positions, and could likely use rest. So I say rest the starters. I'd rather get a "tougher" opponent - careful what you wish for, every playoff opponent will be a tough task - with our most important players healthy than play them to close out the year and have them get injured and miss the wild card round against a "lesser" opponent.

Seattle will be very motivated. Plus division games can always be a dice roll. Even if we don't rest starters who is to say the W vs. Seattle is guaranteed? If we were playing an out of division basement dweller I think playing starters would make more sense.

I like the 4 seed better. We want to avoid going into Philly. I think we can beat Det/Minny at home and on the road. Then we can hope Tampa or Green Bay can knock off Philly for us
I think Washington can beat Tampa Bay, so even if we're the 4th seed, we could be going to Philly second round if Green Bay doesn't get the job done.

The Lions and that 30+ ppg offense is not a matchup I want round 1.

Minnesota feels tough too, but McVay should know what to expect with O'Connell.

I think I prefer Washington if I had a choice… but that could mean Philly in round 2 and that could be the toughest match-up for us overall.

I feel confident enough about our chances now to get in to start thinking about who we might face in the wildcard round. As things stand right now we have moved up to the 3rd seed, which means we would play the 6th seed in the first round. Here's how it looks right now:

* 1st Lions (13-2)
- 2nd Eagles (12-3)
- 3rd Rams (9-6)
- 4th Bucs (8-6) <Sunday Night game vs Cowpokes>
- 5th Vikings (12-2) <Playing now vs Seahawks>
- 6th Packers (10-4) <Monday Night game vs Saints>
- 7th Commodes (10-5)

8th Seahawks (8-6) <Playing now vs Vikings>
9th Falcons (8-7)

Worst matchup for us of the lower half seeded teams would probably be the Packers.
Yeah, looking like GB is the matchup which favors them. And it'll suck even more when half the stadium is packers fans. Lord I hate that.
We're gonna have to bring it on both sides of the ball to advance.

Problem with resting some starters is the rest of your team has to play even more snaps so you end up with an even more tired team and a few guys with rest. Doesn't make a lot of sense. A bye week is perfect because the whole team rests. If you have to play a game then just roll with everybody who can play.

But the Lions are limping into the post season tbh with all their injuries while we are peaking with no significant injuries right now.

I pray we get them in LA and time to crack back that son of a bitch Joseph. With another weak non traveling fan base SOFI will be rocking.

Any playoff game will be a challenge. I prefer to not have the weather affect it (@PHI) but glad for any matchup.

Nope, if we lose we can get the 4th seed.

If Tampa wins and we win, we get the 3.
If Tampa wins & we lose, we get the 4.
If we both lose, we get the 3.
If Tampa loses and we win, we get the 3.

Tampa plays a really shitty Saints team btw
I wonder how much either team cares if they are the 3 or 4 seed.
They have to weigh that vs resting players.

The problem is the 5, 6, and 7 seed are still in flux too. There’s too many possible outcomes to know whether 3 or 4 will be an easier path right now.

My biggest hope is that Green Bay gets the 7 and beats Philly in round 1. I think we could matchup and beat any NFC team except for Philly. They are just a really bad matchup for us. If GB could take them out in the first round, we could actually make a run at the Super Bowl.

Either Washington or Green Bay have a decent chance of knocking Philly off. Let's hope.

One thing to keep in mind is if we rest starters and end up with the 4th seed and crazy things happen in the playoffs, we'd have to go to Tampa for the NFC championship. I know that's a pretty remote possibility but it is one.

McVay should ignore seeding. Too much in flux anyway.

He should also play to win next week and only rest a few starters.

Rest Stafford b/c we can't risk injury to him. Rest Hav b/c he's recovering from injury and we need every starting OT. Rest Kupp b/c he's old and we need vintage Kupp.

Everyone else plays!

The OL can continue to gel. The offense as a whole needs reps so they don't get rusty.

The defense is young and needs reps to continue its improvement.
