If that's all that's keeping you awake at night, you're a blessed man. (y)

That and Cooper, although he slept thru till 4 this morning. Not bad for 7 1/2 weeks.

The older I get, the more I try to focus on the good stuff, and it works.

He's so adorable! It took Flash 6 months to sleep through the night and a full two years before he was totally housebroken......grrrrrr.

That's the good thing about having a dog, they are always happy to see you, even when you stagger in the door at 2 a.m

Hey all - more pics (as promised). Coop on his rock - thinks he's a goat.
Brought him home 4 weeks ago today. Haven't had a pup for 14 years - forgot what a handful they are. Totally worth it though.
Monday he'll be 11 weeks, and weighed 15.5 lbs. this morning, so he's gained 8 lbs since we got him. Have a feeling he'll end up around 90 - his dad was 110, so I better get him trained before he get's big enough to tell me to f'off.

Anyway - happy Friday, and enjoy the weekend.

Fantastic! Thanks for sharing Coop with us!

I need to get into another house. I want another pup but apartment living isn't conducive to puppy training. Especially for working folk... It's not right for the pup either.

View attachment 12618 Unfortunately we had to put down our 14 year old golden retriever Sandy. She was having problems walking and just wasn't living a full life that a dog should.

So sorry you and your family had to go through this. 14 years is a long time for a golden retriever but it's still damn painful to lose your friend. I've been through this many times with our dogs and it never gets any easier. Don't care what anyone else thinks or says but I hope to be reunited with all my pets one day.

Thank you. We knew it was coming and the feeling still punched me right in the stomach. Just wasn't any easier.

My heart breaks for you and your family. That beautiful dog Sandy will be forever missed and always remembered by you and yours. 14 years is a good run for a Golden but, for me, it could never be long enough. My Golden is ten now and I can't imagine not having him around. Yeah, we all know it's coming, sooner or later. There's nothing, IMHO, that can make it any easier save for God Himself. I thought as I grew older I would be better prepared to deal with losing a pet. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Yeah, me too! I'm hoping that Heaven has the greatest, never ending dog park. A place where we all can roll around in the grass and play together.

Appreciate the kind words. I can always count on this site for basically anything. But yeah, we thought it would be sooner and she lived a lot longer then we thought. So I am thankful for that. Although there's always that fine line between doing the right thing by letting them go or keeping yourself happy by letting your dog possibly live in pain.

Yeah, a fine line indeed. My dogs have always been able to let me know when they're ready. It still sucks...

So sorry to hear that Brudda.

I went through the same thing right after Thanksgiving. We still think we see Harley from time to time. He was with us for almost 16 years. It's so difficult. Our parrot still calls for him. We all miss him a lot.

It may not help you much now,,, but it does get a little easier as time goes by.

Bless

The worst part of it was that I recently moved to Texas for work. So I never got to actually say goodbye. My parents constantly look for her to either feed her or let her outside. It's honestly like losing a child.

Sorry to hear about Harley. It's definitely a difficult time. But I always think about how dogs are so happy and I just know they are somehow apart of the next pet you get. Whenever that may be.

Very, very sorry to hear that. Like Selassie said, time's really the only thing that helps - that and the empathetic responses in this thread. I know it helped me.

(a story from a vet I've always liked, after the vet put his dog down)
......the little (six-year old) boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker’s Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ”I know why.”
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way I try and live.
He said, ”People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?” The Six-year-old continued,

”Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”

I just hear that story elsewhere sometime last week.

I tell people all the time that the name "dog" is "God" spelled backwards. Dogs are the only being, on the planet, I know capable of unconditional love.
