We did get a 6th you may not like it but we did in fact get something for him in a trade.

I thought it was a pick-swap, with the Rams getting a 5th round pick in 2026 for Jones and a 6th (2026).

Also thought the 6th was conditional. No idea what that condition is/was.

yes it was a swap. And nobody that I can find has reported what the conditions are. One list I saw shows the Titans with our pick in the 5th and we have another I think Minny for the Akers trade.

I would be averse to that. Young isn't an ILB. He is, however, a solid EDGE. If we land a better pass rusher in the Draft, trade Young at the deadline or after the season. (Lord knows you can never have too many good pass rushers.)
Not sure how you can he say can't do it. Maybe he can't, but his build is a perfect fit for the position at 6-2 250, so it would come down to whether he has the instincts to do it. Neither of us really know the answer to that.

We did get a 6th you may not like it but we did in fact get something for him in a trade. As for a comp pick as has been pointed out we have a lot of cap space this year and aren't likely to do much at all in the comp pick formula so it would have only cancelled out a signing we do. Which would have netted us nothing.
We got a 5th for Jones and gave up a 6th in return...this in the 2026 draft however.

I think Byron Young is a very good OLB. He plays the run well and he pressures the QB.

How many teams have two Jared Verses or Miles Garrets etc… on the same team. I don’t think it’s necessary to have two top five edge rushers. Especially considering they have Turner and Fiske. If a team is figuring in the allocation of resources to fit so much DLine strength under the cap, is it judicious to have two superstar edge rushers?

I read an article where the guy says the Rams should trade for Sauce Gardner. He said it’s reminiscent of trading for the disgruntled Ramsey when the team has only a few glaring needs. Gardner has made some suggestions that he may prefer to leave the Jets. Gardner has two years on his contract. I’m guessing it takes at least a first round pick+ to acquire him.

If Stafford gets back on track in the playoffs and the Rams can sign a decent receiver in free agency, maybe Sauce Gardner is a solution for the Rams secondary.

I read that they’ve got a lot of cap space this offseason.
For sure. Spotrac shows 57 mill of cap space, with only 8 open roster spots and if Stafford (50 mill) and Kupp (30 mill) restructure it could be a true bonanza

Nobody seems to want to answer me asking earlier so I'll try again. Why are we trying to make BY something he's never been before?

I would rather the Rams come to terms with a few of their own FAs before looking at signing anybody high priced from outside.

AJ
Hoecht
BB3
and possibly Atwell, unless he wants nothing to do with the Rams and seeks opportunity elsewhere.

That’s one of the few guys that id make a big trade (this years first plus) for. Position of need, young, ascending, signed for next year at a good cap price, etc.

I thought he’s a FA in 2026 though. I guess you could franchise tag him if so.

About 1 mill.
That’s a pathetic attempt
The Vet minimum for 2025 is $960,000. Again, that isn't nothing. Plus I think there is speculation he was grousing about his situation. So there is in the mind of McVay addition by subtraction. We have seen this before. You are either with us or your against us. One of the ways McVay keeps his team environment, is he cuts any dissent.

Which isn’t true considering the Akers/Henderson sitch
Also McVay himself said that Jones was a pro and not a problem so there’s that.
Alas, whatever happened is water under the bridge and we are where we want to be. Doesn’t mean every move was the right one.

The problem with your logic is it assumes he can play ILB well.
Wrong again. I made zero assumptions.

You quoted me from a reply to a post that suggested BY might be able to play ILB. And where I acknowledged that if we were to replace him at Edge then I would not be averse to it.

But carry on with whatever it is you're doing here. It's entertaining.

The Akers/Henderson sitch and how that turned out could be why they pulled the plug so quickly. Also McVay has stated he didn't handle the Goff sitch well publicly and would handle things differently in the future. So again could be a case of learning from the past.
But you are correct it is the past and nobody is perfect.
