Yup, he delivered against the Saints. Didn't play well against the Cowboys or Patriots, but he did his job against the Saints and was a big reason why we won that game. I'm glad he turned things around in Detroit and hope it continues. Because he sucked so much as a rookie, he never got the credit he deserved here. And while the breakup was necessary and we ended up better for it (at least in the short term), the way the media treated him really sucked.
And some of the fans they treated him worse.
To me the SB was more of a coaching thing and he couldn't overcome it as the Pats scheme then got in his head as a result of McVay not responding.

He was 11 of 21 in the first half with 4 drops. Plus he had inside pressure in face on practically every pass play. This was the game Belichick probably designed the SB game plan around.
Gurley and Anderson weren't as effective, and Goff had a good game. Has anyone said otherwise?
By the 2nd half it was obvious they had to stop the passing game and they couldn't.
So obvious that the Rams still used a lot of play action (run threat) passes that were effective.
Absolutely the Detroit line is good. And, absolutely, the better the oline, the better the QB. (Exhibit A: Matt Stafford last year. ) I would venture to say that most outstanding offensive teams with high performing qbs also have high performing o-lines. But the qb still has to play at a high level to make the offense work.
Or you could raise another "what if" hypothetical.
And yet they were blitzing Goff, who made two great throws to unload it in the flats on the winning fg drive.
