I think the thought process is, Goff is 28 and has played 7 seasons in the NFL. He is what he is. He played pretty well last year, but, he is never going to be elite. That ship has sailed. Stroud, Richardson, or Levis still have developing to do and have the potential to be elite NFL Qb's. If I'm Detroit, I take that chance because they will not be picking in the top 10 next year unless catastrophic injuries hit them (a la our beloved Rams). Throw in saving 30+ million per year that they are going to have to sign Goff to and I'd be all in on drafting one this year, even if it involves a small trade up.
