Josh Jacobs RB (Alabama)

I firmly believe Rams take Jacobs with the 1st rounder this year. I know it sounds crazy with Gurley on the team but hear me out...

I think the arthritis murmurs with Gurley are unfortunately true, it just makes too much sense with the way the team has been acting and the sporadic benching and use of Gurley towards the end of the season. There’s even a quote where Gurley states he knew something was wrong with his knees and immediately wanted to give the Rams all the newly negotiated contract money back. That sounds like a longer term issue.

We’ve already invested a large amount of cap space on Gurley at this point though so the backup will have to come at a low cap hit in order to offset Gurley’s massive contract.

RAMS NEED:
Starting caliber (1B type) RB for a cheap cap hit.

31st pick, Rams 1st rounder, average contract value for 2019 is 1.866M.

Most of the 1st round defensive talent will go earlier than expected and allow Jacobs to be available at our pick. With the Rams filling holes via free agency and maybe having more confidence in the talent in the building (Kiser, Sheldon-Day, Franklin-Meyers) they may be more willing to spend the 1st to fill this specific need.

Jacobs is an unselfish and intelligent player who is shifty, tough between the tackles, hits you in the mouth when pass blocking, and can reliably make catches downfield as well.

We’ve all seen what the team looks like with a strong running game. A tandem of Gurley and Jacobs with Jacobs locked up for cheap not only secures the RB position for years to come but also addresses and solves the Gurley arthritis problem with having a capable and reliable 1B always on deck.

Last, for those arguing that you’d rather just grab a RB off the FA market for cheaper, good luck finding a RB of Jacobs talent for that price. You could argue Jacobs is better than Ingram and he just got paid $5M/yr. The emphasis is the need for a starting caliber RB since we’ll most likely have Gurley on a pitch count all year and maybe even out full games.

Jacobs is quick, decisive, an excellent pass blocker, and can run routes and make catches. He is the perfect piece for McVay’s offense and makes too much sense for our current RB situation.

Sounds like we like Baity a lot.. watched some highlights, kid’s got great skills...

Another tweeted suggested we spoke with
Samford DE Ahmad Gooden as well after his pro day..

Not sure if we already have a thread, but here’s some I’m seeing for you mock drafters! I’ll post more as I see them and I’m sure walterfootball (hate those bastards) has a list too.

Post Matthews Rams Mock ...

All right, I was bored.
The Cleveland Browns traded away their 1'st Rd. pick for WR OBJ, so they do an even point trade with the Rams, exchanging their 2'nd round (#49) and 3'rd round pick (#80) for the Rams #31.

Fire Away ...

Regular v Post Season performance

Lately, every year, there’s been a point in the season when the Patriots looked like their reign had ended. It usually happened early but as recently as last season, they lost bad games late. And yet, their defense seemed impregnable against the Chargers, Chiefs (first half), and Rams in the postseason.

Last year, the Rams defense disappointed against the run in the regular season. Peters was toasted so often I thought his name was Melba, not Marcus. Suh seemed to be invisible. Joyner and Brockers flat disappeared from impact. I feared Zeke would run wild, Kamara would juke untouched, and Brees/ Brady would carve the defense like Thanksgiving turkey in the playoffs.. But no, a championship level defense transcended the regular season doldrums. It’s almost as though the whole plan was to build for post-season success by Wade and his staff... much like the Pats do most years.

Why is this relevant to the offseason moves we are currently witnessing? The additions of Suh and Talib last season and Weddle plus Matthews this season are part and parcel of a post-season plan. Vets like them will get the Whitworth/Sully treatment during the pre-season and game week preparation. Their bodies will be monitored for optimum effectiveness not just for the first 16 weeks...but with an eye toward the final three through the planned SB run. The belief here is that the team that recently was perennially the league’s youngest required more veteran discipline, calm, and focus. The long ranged vision the Rams have is evident in how Gurley was bubble wrapped late in the year even with a Championship at stake.

The hidden genius in all this is how the Rams draft developmental talent (Noteboom, Allen, Obo, JFM) and give them the vet reps to mature at an optimum pace. And like the NE formula, they acquire under the radar vets from other teams (NRC, Woods, Fowler, Blythe) that are better system fits to their scheme than their previous jobs afforded.

This is an intentional system. A method patterned by NE that Kroenke communicated when he hired Fisher and Snead. McVay and Phillips added panache to the formula. The result of sustainable excellence has yet to be proven over the long term in Los Angeles, but in my 50 years plus of studying and supporting this team, I’ve never witnessed a stronger base than I see before me now. Balanced excellence is a theme this staff embodies.

It sure is fun again to be a Ram fan...even in the Arctic Abyss that is the football offseason.

Pretty Happy/Excited About The Rams Offseason So Far!!!

With the signings of Weddle, Fowler, Bortles and Matthews I think the Rams are off to a really good offseason so far!! Can’t wait to see if they can add any more quality players through Free Agency or Trade before the Draft! And, Then I am keeping my fingers crossed that they can fill some of their needed positions (OL, CB, LB, etc) with their Draft! Seems like with Sean McVay and Les Snead there is NEVER any IDLE/BORING Times with the Rams!!!

Draft Possibilities First round (@ Pick 31)

Going to put some cutups here for all the guys who look to potentially be slotting when we're up in round one. This year is tougher because of Draft Breakdown closing their doors after trying to make money off their product, but there's still some cutups out there for these guys. And might as well start with a guy I think is an outstanding fit:

Dexter Lawrence, NT, Clemson

Strengths: this guy can anchor vs the run but he can also crush the pocket. Plug 'n play NT in our scheme and having this guy plugged in next to Donald would sure be nice, because he's going to grow into quite a monster of a player (he's young like 21). Lastly I like his demeanor just going off of his interviews, seems like a grounded young man.

Weaknesses: drug test and the injury running his first 40 time.

Johnny Tricycle signs with the AAF

This dude is some kind of narcissistic sociopath of a rare order.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles...om&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial

An excerpt from the article:

"We are pleased to welcome Johnny Manziel to the Alliance of American Football, which we've always described as a league of opportunity for talented players to launch or revitalize their pro football careers," AAF co-founder Bill Polian said in a statement. "We completed extensive background work to determine whether it would be appropriate for Johnny to play this season, and after consulting with many people familiar with his situation, we concluded that it would be good for him to resume his pro football career here at The Alliance."

AAF chairman Tom Dundon told USA Today's Kevin Allen and Tom Schad in late February that Manziel had been offered a workout for the league.

"Right now, it's a decision of the GMs, and they can decide what they want to do," Dundon explained. "If talent-wise this is close, the negative of him is that there is drama with him and you are trying to win games and build a team. The positive is that he brings in fans and attention."

Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry

We came. We saw. WE KICKED THEIR ASS!

We weren’t going to do it because it’s a crapload of work but my wife convinced me.

Team Pho-Q - just my wife and me. Took on teams with 4-10 members and took home the hardware plus about $1500 in prize money.

Over 800 orders of Pho-king hot balls served. And everyone kept saying they would have never known they were balls if they weren’t at a testicle festival.

I sliced 90 lbs of balls and marinated them in a very spicy Scorpion chili marinade and then made an authentic beef Pho broth and added rice vermicelli. We served bean sprouts, Thai basil, and a lime wedge on the side. It was a truly tasty dish and the balls tasted like a spicy Vietnamese meat ball.

Rams are no longer overwhelming favorites in NFC West

RAMS ARE NO LONGER OVERWHELMING FAVORITES IN THE NFC WEST
By
Vincent Frank

March 16, 2019
It seems a bit ridiculous on the surface. Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams nearly defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII.

McVay is a genius. Youngsters Jared Goff and Todd Gurley pace an elite-level offense. On the other side of the ball, Aaron Donald is coming off a second consecutive NFL Defensive Player of the Year award.

In the end, Los Angeles took home the NFC West by a cool three games — finding itself nine games ahead the Arizona Cardinals and 10 games in front of the last-place San Francisco 49ers.

But we’re here to say that these Rams are no longer the overwhelming favorites in a division that’s on the verge of getting a whole lot better.

Los Angeles Rams: Free-agent losses are going to hurt.

  • Los Angeles lost two starters along the offensive line in that of stud guard Rodger Saffold and veteran center John Sullivan. These are not small losses in an NFL that’s still defined by trench ware fare.
  • It’s also seemingly a foregone conclusion that Pro Bowl defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh will move on to another team. He anchored the Rams’ line with Donald last season.
  • On the surface, Eric Weddle is an upgrade over Lamarcus Joyner at safety. Though, he’s older than his counterpart. Could Weddle regress in 2019?
Los Angeles Rams: The Jared Goff, Todd Gurley dynamic.

  • Seen as one of the best young backfields in the NFL, both of these players struggled down the stretch during the Rams’ Super Bowl run last season.
  • Said to be dealing with injuries, Gurley was a non-factor in the final two playoff games — going for 45 yards on 14 attempts. Was he really injured? We still have no idea.
  • Goff put up just one touchdown and two interceptions in the Rams’ three playoff games. Over the course of their final five regular-season games he threw six touchdowns compared to six picks. Is regression a concern?
Seattle Seahawks: Russell Wilson is still an MVP candidate.

  • Pretty much in a season of transition, Wilson helped his team to a surprising 10 wins and a playoff appearance. In the process, he proved himself to be a legit MVP candidate.
  • The Super Bowl signal caller completed nearly 66 percent of his passes with 35 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
  • Boasting the NFL’s best rushing attack, balance is the name of the game in Seattle. That’s going to be an issue for a disappointing Rams defense.
Seattle Seahawks: Defense is growing big time.

  • Led by Frank Clark and Bobby Wagner, Seattle’s defense still found a way to rank in the top 11 in points allowed last season. There’s only room to grow on this front.
  • We were equally impressed by young defensive backs Shaquill Griffin, Tre Flowers, Tedric Thompson and Bradley McDougald. None of these four have even hit their prime.
  • Seattle also retained a core free agent in that of linebacker K.J. Wright. He remains one of the best players at his position in the game.
San Francisco 49ers: Injuries derailed team in 2019.

  • Name a team that could overcome losing its expensive starting backfield before Week 3 concluded, only to have a successful season in the process.
  • That’s what happened in San Francisco when running back Jerick McKinnon and franchise quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo went down to torn ACLs.
  • Still a rebuilding team, San Francisco didn’t have the depth to overcome these injuries during a four-win 2018 campaign.
San Francisco 49ers: Added big time to talented young core.

Arizona Cardinals: Massive head coach upgrade.

  • As we’ve seen with McVay and the Rams, coaching matters in the NFL. Fired after one season, Steve Wilks simply wasn’t the answer in the desert.
  • We have no idea how Kliff Kingsbury will work out. What we do know is that he’s an innovative offensive mind of the McVay/Shanahan ilk. That’s not a bad thing.
  • Depending on what happens at quarterback, Kingsbury will have either Josh Rosen or Kyler Murray to work with. He’s also going to get the most of stud running back David Johnson.
While we fully expect Los Angeles to win the NFC West again in 2019, it’s nowhere near a foregone conclusion. The NFL is all about battles in the trenches and specific matchups.

It’s in this that the division’s three other teams might have an advantage after Los Angeles lost Rodger Saffold and John Sullivan.

Seattle has an elite pass-rush threat in that of Frank Clark. Meanwhile, defensive tackle Jarran Reed recorded 10.5 sacks last season.

San Francisco has turned pass rush into a strength after struggling in that category last season. Simply by adding Dee Ford to the mix with fellow Pro Bowler DeForest Buckner, the 49ers are going to cause major mismatches at the line. The two combined for 49 quarterback hits and 25 sacks last season.

In Arizona, the addition of Terrell Suggs to team up with Chandler Jones should also cause the Rams some fits.

Given that Goff struggles with pressure up the middle, this is no small thing. We’re highly intrigued to see how everything plays out during the 2019 season.

Anyone here wear a 4x?

random I know. But I frequent a website named Woot (like a surplus website where they sell random stuff each day for discounted rates) they sell something every now and then called a BOC (box of crap) for 10.00. In it is usually a bunch of random things but that are useless but the value is always over 10.00. I’ve gotten some really cool stuff from it. I received my box last night and oddly enough it had a rams sweatshirt in it, but it was a 4x, which I have no use for. The jacket is really nice and probably worth 50-75 bucks but I can’t wear it and will probably just throw it away if no one wants it. So if anyone has interest just shoot me a PM

Funny enough my favorite college team is the Miami hurricanes, somehow I got a food fish with their logo on it too. Pretty crazy how it all worked out, got a bunch of other crap too but nothing crazy

Clay Matthews anyone?

I know I saw a post or two about this in another thread but as slow as free agency has been for us rams fans I thought some might have missed it.

Clay Matthews LB, Unsigned Free Agent

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said to "keep an eye" on the Rams in pursuit of free agent LB Clay Matthews.
Rapsheet added that DC Wade Phillips is a "big fan" of Matthews, an L.A. native who played his college ball at USC. While dozens of free agents have come off the board in recent days, we haven't heard a peep about Matthews outside of this report. Clearly Matthews isn't the dominant force he was early in his career, but the six-time Pro Bowler still has something left and would bring a strong, veteran presence to the Rams' locker room. The former Packer turns 33 this offseason.

Rams showing interest in FAU RB Devin Singletary, met with him twice

Rams showing interest in FAU RB Devin Singletary, met with him twice

The status of Todd Gurley’s knee remains a talking point in Los Angeles with the Rams running back reportedly battling arthritis. It’s a condition that shortens players’ careers and causes discomfort, often in surgically-repaired knees like Gurley’s.

The Rams have Malcolm Brown on the roster as his backup, but they might be looking to the draft as a way to add depth. According to NFL.com, the Rams went to Florida Atlantic University this week to meet with running back Devin Singletary.

Reps from the team went to Boca Raton, Fla., to visit Singletary. They put him through a film review and had him work the whiteboard, opting not to work Singletary out on the field like the Cardinals did the day before.

“I feel like the Cardinals and Rams thought highly of me — I was able to handle the film stuff and the board work without any hesitation,” Singletary said. “Now I just have to impress the Bears the same way.”

In addition to visiting Singletary at FAU, the Rams also met with him at the combine. They were one of 12 teams to talk to him, including the Browns who wanted to try him out as a receiver.

Singletary is undersized at just over 5-foot-7, 203 pounds, but he’s a capable pass catcher out of the backfield and runs hard. He caught 26 passes as a freshman in 2016 but only had 25 the following two years.

At the combine, he ran a disappointing 4.66 in the 40 and posted a 7.32 in the three-cone drill, which was also slow for a player his size. His lack of experience catching passes is somewhat concerning for teams trying to make him a change-of-pace back, as is his slow 40 time.

Singletary is projected to be a Day 2 or 3 draft pick in April, likely going somewhere in the middle rounds.
