Johnny Tricycle signs with the AAF

We could make a good argument for that one too!

There was a photo-shopped pic of him riding a tricycle some years ago and I thought it was perfect. That's why I use that name. It fits.

And by the way, it's rare for me to bag on a player by freaking with their name. People gave me crap growing up about having "a girls name" since my name is Leslie so it's really not my thing. I got into so many fights, even into HS, over it............if you've ever noticed I really haven't done it.

Except for this douchenozzle.

@Memento that fits too LOL

Abducted in Plain Sight

OK...

I watched both Part 1 & Part 2 of Leaving Neverland over the weekend. There's also an interview show done by Oprah with both of the victims that I strongly recommend (it's an HBO interview that followed Part 2).

The documentary in the thread title and this one about Michael Jackson's sexual victims have very strange similarities. Well worth the watch.

Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry

My father had tartan ties..........dozens of them and all legit tartans from different clans. He also had a very expensive book that showed illustrations of hundreds of Tartans. I think every one from every Clan but I could be wrong.

He traced the Scottish blood in the family (which is one of a few nationalities I am) back to the MacPherson Clan.

He always wore a white shirt and a tartan tie to work. Every day, no exceptions.
I’m not Scottish but my first name is. We had the kilt made over the pond. Not cheap but great workmanship on it.

Rams and Dante Fowler have agreed to terms on a new contract

Good deal in my opinion. Fowler played very well for us last year and, most notably, appears to be a player who saves his best snaps for the biggest moments. He came up clutch several times.

I was surprised how stout he was against the run too. Teams really didn't have much success running on him. And he had a habit of delivering big hits to help set the tone. He laid out Zeke Elliott against the Cowboys in the playoffs. And he was also trucking opponents early on in the Super Bowl.

Fowler is still very young and should have nowhere to go but up. Indeed, his play with the Rams last year suggests that he is on a steep upward trajectory. That's the kind of player you don't mind paying a premium for, unlike a more veteran player whose level of play has flat-lined or, worse, shows signs of decline or reasons to fear decline's approach, which causes apprehension.

And she seems to really enjoy being a Ram. Not just with his comments since joining the team (being thankful to land with a franchise that he feels appreciates him, noting how he felt hard done by in Jacksonville and the depression that ensued, etc) but also by backing those up by taking less money to stay in Horns. That's a very good thing.

He should be even better next year as he gets to spend training camp and OTAs with the Rams.

I am excited about Fowler and think he is primed to have a huge break-out year. He didn't come overly cheap, but DEs are never cheap if they are young, of decent quality, and do not have hugely visible warts. The contract is definitely fair and reasonable. This draft does have good talent on the defensive line. But lest we forget, Dante Fowler was even more highly touted than all (or almost all.....) of them when he came out of college only a few years ago. It appears Snead and McVay share my optimism on Dante Fowler, as they signed him to a decent sized deal, when many thought he was as good as done due to the financials.

I don't mind the one year deal, either. As bullish as I am on Fowler, if he really wants to get paid, those sack totals need to go up. If they don't, we can probably assume he is what he is, and move on. If he breaks out, we can then decide if we want to pony up.

The big numbers is hurries. Hurries lead to incompletes and interceptions.

Saffold signs with Tennessee

I'm still upset over this one. Saffold should have retired a Ram. The deal the Titans gave him was not unreasonable. And I think he would have taken a bit less from Los Angeles. I hope Snead and McVay got it right. The game is won and lost in the trenches. Ignore offensive line at your peril. Especially when Goff's biggest weakness to date is that he struggles with pressure more than most other quality staring QBs.

We already lost Sully at centre. Although Sullivan's replacement will likely be just as capable physically, it would have been nice to keep a vet like Saffold around for the mental part of the game. Speaking of vets, Whitworth is still playing at an absolutely elite level. But in his advanced age, decline can come fast and without warning. It would have been nice to keep an elite guard beside him in the event he starts slowing down, rather than having him line up beside a sophomore.

So much of the offensive line is also about cohesion. Losing 2 starters right beside each other isn't ideal either.

Then there is so much to be said about Saffold's character and locker-room presence. He's exactly the kind of guy you want young players around.

If Noteboom proves to be a good starter, we likely moved on from Saffold at the right time from a pure cap perspective. But that is no sure thing, and we're also now put in a position where we have absolutely 0 depth. What if injuries strike? We have had a remarkably healthy o-line the past few years. That cannot and will not be the case indefinitely. How soon Rams fans forget Jake Long and Scott Wells. "Saffold has to go if we want to see what we have in Noteboom!". Wrong. The reality of the NFL is that, due to injuries, it is far more likely than not that Noteboom would have received more than enough playing time to evaluate him even with Saffold in the fold. Especially if we plan on lessening Whitworth's reps to help keep him fresh. Noteboom didn't get too many reps last season, but again, health-wise, last season was an aberration.

Speaking of injuries, Saffold can play multiple positions on the line at a high level. That versatility is invaluable if and when injuries hit.

His injury history is a concern, but he seems to have put that behind him, and he is young enough that he would have still been playing at an elite level for at least 1-2 more years IMO. And would have still been quite solid for at least 3-4 more. No signing is without risk.

I am thrilled with Snead as GM. Most of his moves have been excellent. But sometimes he seems to want to be the smartest guy in the room, or overly obsessive with compensation draft picks. I hope those qualities did not lead to him making a poor decision re: Saffold. He should have been the top priority, IMO. I was all for bringing Fowler back, even if it meant paying a premium as I believe he is primed to really break out (that's a topic for another post). But if push came to shove, with how good this draft class is on the defensive line, I would have much rather let Fowler walk to free up money for Saffold.

/end novel

Maybe Suh and Barron weren't as good as we thought.

The fact that they are still unsigned shows that other teams do not value them very much going forward. They may not be that difficult to replace, in the Rams starting lineup.
I think everyone knew this, even them...>Suh had a so so year at best, and he knows it...but in the playoffs they are mini legends---for us who have seen the Rams in 4 super bowls in 50 years.

Notre Dame DT Jerry Tillery had surgery to repair a torn labrum

Thanks for the article on Fox, I hadn't seen it. As for Easley, he was also designated as an OLB early last season before his own injury, it can still be witnessed over at the official Rams roster sheet from the end of last season.

https://www.therams.com/team/players-roster/

I didn't say Easley wasn't designated an OLB. I said he wasn't a good choice (for me). I liked him on the defensive line. Too bad he could never stay healthy,

River's 2019 Post Combine Mock

Brockers dropped weight with the expectation that Suh would play inside and Brockers wouldn’t play Nose. Maybe dropping weight was the mistake, or that Snead and McVay feel it was a mistake. I got my info from an article. McVay and Snead love his versatility, supposedly. Bonnie B also said that Brockers is t going anywhere.

What I have heard is stuff like, the Rams feel SJD or JFM can fill the void if Brockers is cut. So far Brockers is still here with no info supporting a cut. So, as far as we can figure he’s staying. Any offseason that cuts him is thus unrealistic..... unless it’s just a ‘Here’s what I would do’ scenario.

I might reason that all mocks are a ‘Here’s what I would do' scenario ... and I always question when management mentions how 'high' they are on certain players as that is part of their job in maintaining morale. I would also agree that now that the first phase of free agency is done, Brockers is no longer going anywhere, that ship has likely sailed, although I still see it as an opportunity lost.

I'll add that up to now i'm not very happy with our off-season, I believe we overpaid for Fowler and as previously stated, lost some other opportunities for improvement. Whether this off-season is being negatively impacted by the coming 2020 overall CAP issue due to the necessity for re-signing Goff next year or not, I feel management has acted far to conservatively. While I feel we still manage a play-off spot, another Super Bowl feels like a bridge too far for 2019, regardless of how well our draft plays out. jmo.

Backup QB

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...ans-shaking-up-the-qb-situation-in-tennessee/

Ryan Tannehill traded from Dolphins to Titans, shaking up the QB situation in Tennessee

The Miami Dolphins traded Ryan Tannehill to the Tennessee Titans on Friday afternoon, severely shaking up the quarterback situation in Tennessee and leaving us wondering what is happening in Miami.

Tannehill's agency, SportsTrust Advisors, announced the move on Twitter.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the deal involves the Dolphins getting a fourth-round pick back in 2020 as well as a 2019 seventh-round pick, while the Titans receive Tannehill and a sixth-round pick in 2019. Per Rapoport, the deal is a one-year contract worth $7 million guaranteed with a chance to move up to $12 million based on playing time incentives.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Tannehill has restructured his contract in order to help the deal go through.

Tannehill, in all likelihood, was going to be released by the Dolphins this offseason, pending what they could figure out in the quarterback market. Miami believed it was going to be a player in the Tyrod Taylor sweepstakes, but then Taylor went and signed a backup quarterback deal with the Chargers. Miami then got involved with Teddy Bridgewater, but the former first-round pick ultimately elected to return to the Saints to backup Drew Brees on a similar deal to what Tannehill is receiving in Tennessee.

Now we're left to wonder exactly what their plan is at the position. Miami's current depth chart is Jake Rudock and Luke Falk. That is, in case you're new here, not ideal. The Dolphins haven't really been linked to many quarterbacks in the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft, but that's largely a result of where they're picking. The belief is Miami might be willing to eschew taking a quarterback in the first round this year in order to set itself up to take one in next year's draft.

It's going to be difficult for them to find a starting quarterback who can really help them compete in what is becoming an increasingly difficult division. Maybe they're fine with that?

The Dolphins also free up a whopping $33 million in cap space over the next two years with this Tannehill trade, while picking up a positive asset (a fourth-round pick next year) in the process. It's a very nice haul considering the position they were in with Tannehill when they woke up this morning.

For the Titans, this is a high-end move but a smart one. Paying big-time money for a backup quarterback has proven to be a viable approach (see: the Eagles and Nick Foles) and it makes all the sense in the world for the Titans, a team with Marcus Mariota currently positioned as its starter.

Mariota, the former second-overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, hasn't necessarily proven himself as a guy worthy of a monster contract. He's also battled injuries for almost all of his career, and the Titans have struggled when Mariota has missed time. You could argue that he and Tannehill are incredibly similar -- both are athletic, accurate quarterbacks and their playing style feels similar.

So from that perspective, it's quite logical to make the move for Tannehill, especially when it doesn't cost them anything more than a fourth-round pick down the road. The Titans are trying to compete this year and they don't know if they can trust their starting quarterback enough to stay healthy, much less extend him over a lengthy period of time. Now the Titans have multiple options, both for the short- and long-term.

Good move for the Titans with Mariota's injury history.

This could impact the draft. The Fins need to finally get a franchise type QB. Can they wait another year? They got the New England coaching connection. Will be very interested to see what they do.

Free agency phase two. WHAT'S NEXT ?

But it’s always one of those deals where you either pay me now or pay me later. So the trick is when is the better time to pay.

Very good point.

From his history we know that Demoff has a dislike of backloading contracts because of the cap implications. He knows the cap very well and it's served the Rams mightily.

IMO he will always keep the Rams out of cap trouble even if it means letting a player walk.

OBJ traded to Browns

I think they'll miss Brown more than Bell. As you said Connor did really well. But it's still two pretty big pieces gone. We'll see how they response for sure. But believe it or not I'd rather being with the Brown right now than the Steelers.

I really like John Johnson & Everet, but then again JUju Smith is going to be a Star !!

Not a bad constitutional having Kosh Reynolds & Copper Kupp !! As I watch the USC scandal on admission.

2020 comp picks we "should" net

Los Angeles Rams projected two fourth-round compensatory picks in 2020 by Over The Cap

So far so good on the compensatory pick lookout
By Sosa Kremenjas Mar 14, 2019, 3:01pm CDT

It is quite early in the year so the situation is liable to change, but as it currently stands, Over The Cap currently projects the Los Angeles Rams to receive two fourth-round compensatory draft picks in 2020:

At this point, we've now reached 32 regular 2020 compensatory picks.

If any more eligible comp picks are created, the lowest ones will be pushed beyond the 32-pick limit. pic.twitter.com/mbw4YFDIwN

Here’s the entire list (yes, it does account for cancelled out selections):

download.png

The two players who are slated to net the Rams comp picks are LG Rodger Saffold and FS Lamarcus Joyner. Saffold signed a four-year $44m deal with the Tenessee Titans that averages out to $11m average per year, meanwhile Joyner signed a four-year $42m deal with the Oakland Raiders, and his deal averages $10.15m over the course of the contract.

The Rams have yet to add any unrestricted free agents, meaning they have yet to affect the compensatory pick formula negatively. The only player the Rams have signed thus far is FS Eric Weddle, though he doesn’t affect the formula because he was released by the Baltimore Ravens.

DT Ndamukong Suh has yet to sign a deal, so his return could potentially net a third-round pick, though another fourth-round selection is more likely.
