2019 Los Angeles Rams roster preview: Can LB Troy Reeder sneak onto the final roster?

Troy Reeder was a four star recruit and he did nothing at PSU. He was beat out by a walk on, Jan Johnson, who is nothing special. Reeder was all but invisible at Penn State and transferred for playing time as much as anything. Johnson is the weak link for PSU linebacker corps, so if Reeder couldn't best him out for a starting spot, then I doubt he can crack the Rams roster.

Fans are hoping their Five Star freshman stud can wrestle (pun intended, because Johnson was on the wrestling team) the spot away from Johnson. It is a mystery how he isn't already second string on a preseason projected top five Defense.

2006 NFL Draft: Jay Cutler or Tye Hill?

I was a high school teenager, went to the draft party, got to shake hands with Pisa Tinoisamoa, Kevin Curtis, and Jimmy Kennedy. All of them were courteous.

As a teen, I wanted Haloti Ngata. When they picked Tye Hill, I was stunned. He was something like the 8th rated cornerback in this class. I also had my eye on Elvis Dumervil, and was more than disappointed when they went with Claude fucking Wroten.

To be fair, I'm not infallible; I liked the Joe Klopfenstein pick.

NFL 2019: Here are a dozen storylines to keep an eye on

2015 is a prime example of something I mentioned in another post. Being taken in the first round is no guarantee of getting the player you think you are getting. Teams tend to reach.

It looks like Snead draws up a priority list of team needs then takes the BPA for positions on that list. This way he fills holes while letting the draft come to him. IMO you can find first round value in rounds 2-4 in most drafts if you let the draft come to you and take the BPA to fill your priorities, without locking into only one or two of those needs then reaching for a specific guy.

I think if Jerry Tillery was still on the board at 31 they would have taken him. But when the Chargers grabbed him they knew they could get Gaines later. So they traded back feeling they could get Rapp in the second while gaining picks. This trading back allowed them to move around and got them a huge 3rd round. They got Henderson, Long and Evans. IMO they got 2 starters and a key rotational RB in that 3rd round with another starter in Gaines in the 4th. You can't draft better than that. I have no doubt that 4 of those 5 will see significant snaps this season.

Great point on Snead. Tillery had to be on his radar.

It would be great to see the Rams board and plan before and as the draft unfolded. A seat in the draft room would have been the ultimate fan experience. It was a great plan that was carried out to perfection. Snead had to sweat out getting Gaines a little bit. This could become a great draft.

Michael Thomas on course to be NFL's highest-paid WR

When I see stuff like that on a player one word comes to mind "DIVA". They forget or don't care that it's a team sport. Without the other guys the team won't get very far. Sooner or later the price gets too restrictive and then they are gone. Especially with WR's where that production can be spread around and each year there is another top WR prospect. RB's and WR's are probably the easiest positions to fill.
Do you expect them to just accept whatever the team wants to pay them and be fine with it? Is AD a "diva"? And while RB may be one of the "easiest positions to fill", WR is clearly not for everyone - ESPECIALLY an elite level receiver. I don't give two shits about the Ain'ts and would love them to be in cap hell from signing a "diva". But the guy has put up the kind of numbers to warrant top money and he has improved every year for the three years he has been in the league. It's pretty much SOP to start talking about extensions and 2nd contracts after the 3rd year of a 4 year contract - hell - sometimes before that. It would be stupid for he and his agent to use OBJ's contract level as a starting point.

Rams roster preview: LB Natrez Patrick looks for strong start

You have to wonder if he has the overall speed you want in an ILB the way things are changing. He's got average speed and would have to look at a role as a backup LB whose active roster role will have to be won as a ST's player. Right now Bryce Hager has the backup ILB spot nailed down behind Littleton. Both Hager and Kiser have the speed to cover, whereas Patrick projects strictly as a zone coverage LB who might not have the speed to play sideline to sideline at this level. Still if he can become a ST's demon he has a chance or he's camp fodder.

How well Jimmy Garoppolo must perform to live up to his enormous contract with 49ers

My points about defense are valid. And nothing anyone has put forth so far proves otherwise. If the Rams defense is up to the task, so be it. But if they are not, don't expect another Super Bowl appearance.

In Superbowl 53 the defense held the Patriots to 13 points. Brady's QB rating was 71. I'd say they did just fine. It was the offense who didn't do their part. The defense has already proven they can come up big in big games. Your argument that they won't is not based on any real evidence regarding the Rams. Only what other teams have done.

They already disproved the Eagles Dream Team argument. Keep trying though. It seems your arguments are based on wishful thinking more than anything else.

Rams' Drafts Under Snead/Mcvay

In reality if you were to actually track all the first round picks, I think people would be surprised at the bust rate. Look at Brees he was a second round pick. The Goat Brady was like a 6th rounder wasn't he? I can go on and on. I look at it this way. If the Rams continue their success they will be picking at the bottom of round one anyway. I'd much rather convert that pick to additional 2nd and 3rd round picks. There's not much difference in talent between a player picked at the bottom of round one and a player taken in the second round. Bottom line is that Snead has shown that he understands that talent can be found in all rounds. If there is someone special then sure trade up for him. But right now the Rams are upgrading areas of weakness and developing starters. Their core is pretty set for the next few years.

One big advantage to first rounders - and it doesn't necessarily outweigh getting extra picks - but if a first rounder develops into a star, teams have the option of giving them a 5th year contract, even if not cheap. Matters more for a QB, say, than a TE.

Want to play a game?....

Hey, I saw Mrs. Fells today and asked her about Daniel. She said he still has his foot, had 6 surgeries and that is why he had to retire back in 2016. So he is all good.

She showed me some pics of Daniel and his son (her grandson) have a birthday bash at Benihana.

Little late in my reply but sometimes, things don't go our way.
Happy to hear it. Always thought Daniel was a good guy.

When to expect a breakout for WRs, and when to give up on them

It wasn't until he joined the Pats in 2007 that he started to become the outstanding player he eventually became.
Disagree on Welker. He was a top 5 player in the league in AP yards while at Miami and had over 2000 yards in his 3rd season. They were awful, but he lead the Dolphins in rec & rec yards and earned a 2nd round tender which the Pats gladly gave up for him.

Random Ramsdom 6/24

I think Cooks' first Pro Bowl is a virtual certainty. It's gonna happen with him in this offense, just a matter of when. I will say that if he had made that catch in the Super Bowl he'd be much more of a guy other players would have their eyes on, though. IMO that was a painful thing for him after the Patriots elected not to pay him, where he made them look right. But he's got nothing but time to continue to establish that he's a top wideout in this league.

Rams C Vitas Hrynkiewicz ready to pronounce himself

Is Brian Allen the long term answer or just a stop gap? His play will be the answer. I don't see an elite player in him but I see someone that can be "good enough" in McVay's scheme. Allen has the strength, weight and arm length advantage over Blythe and I think that's why he's penciled in at starting center.

I suspect they like him a lot. But the truth is - once they started signing multiple players to huge contracts, it was inevitable that a bunch of positions would be filled by mid-round draft picks on their first contracts. The NFL Salary Cap ensures that. Allen looked good in very limited time his rookie season. I expect him to be solid - not an all-pro. Then hopefully he either signs cheaply, or signs elsewhere and gets the Rams a draft pick, with the Rams drafting his replacement in 2020.

Baldy’s breakdown: Why Aaron Donald is the best Interior DL of all time

First off WTF? A niners fan? Dude you got to get that household in order! Cut off sex until she complies donning the Horns! :mrburnsevil:

Winning strategy!

What I was going to originally say is I'm sure there is only some older fans that have spent more money than I have watching the Rams in person. The only time I have missed a televised game is being deployed or incarcerated. Last year I spent 7k flying to Fish and Chips land in which I plan to do again this year. Probably my bad habit in life! lol
She roots for the Rams with me now and wears Rams gear. She even refers to the Rams as "us" now.

As for watching, I meant Merlin Olsen. Have you watched him enough to determine how level of domination amongst his peers of his time? I didn't mean to suggest that you don't watch the Rams now. I was genuinely asking if you'd watched enough of Olsen to see his tackles for a loss yourself. No judgement. Just asking.
