Rams give Woods a raise

At least have the courtesy to not generalize for all remaining St. Louis fans. Some of us couldn’t care less because we couldn’t afford to go to the games anyway. Is it not enough, as anyone breathing can fathom that we already weather irrational hatred from peers and relatives alike for remaining fans to the team? Finally, it wasn’t that long ago that Kroenke was bashed in nigh every football forum for his loyalty to Fisher and a relatively ineffective front office. I supported Keoenke and Fisher then, and I continue to show support the organization now. I ‘m glad that the organization finally turned it around. Think on that before you all get ready to go off on some collectivist bashing back and forth.

Woods deserved this, and it’s a fine example to reward a player for his performance regardless of his existing contract.

Los Angeles Rams 2016 NFL Draft Retrospective

Higbee good pick in round four. Rams got some mileage out of P Cooper. Too bad M Thomas has been hurt. Hemingway faded fast with injury but, he is on the Panthers for now.

The decision to draft Goff changed everything for the Rams. Can't go far without a good QB. The Rams were in no man's land for too long. Goff is just getting started as he will get much better. Good times ahead.

Waiting for day 2 camp report 2019...

CAMP REPORT Camp Report: Day 1

ebastian Joseph-Day has the early edge at NT
Greg Gaines may have been drafted with the goal of him being the starting nose tackle in base defense, but that may not be the case right now. On the first day of practice, Joseph-Day got first-team reps at nose tackle.

This isn’t bad news for Gaines because after all, he is a rookie, but it does show the Rams like what they have in Joseph-Day. The second-year player has big shoes to fill with Ndamukong Suh no longer in the picture.
Under Son of Bum, rookies have to earn it.

Okay, so which camp battle most interests you?

I’d love to see Marquise Copeland in the mix at DL. I know we are all talking Gaines but Copeland can play.
I’m hoping he gets a shot and turns some heads
You & I are on the same page again to start off 2019(y).

The best bet for Copeland is to get a ton of 5 tech action. I know we are stuffed full of 5 tech's @ the moment but If Copeland does stand out & fills the need as a prospect who can shut down the run on a very poor 2018 run stopping DL then he has a chance.

I will offer up a possible scenario where he might land a spot. Wade/ Henderson are surly in plans to find ways to increase the effectiveness of this 2019 DL system. First clue that Snead is moving toward this is the fact that we have a new great young DL coach Henderson hired to do just that!

Objective is to explore ways to increase disrupt ability of Aaron Donald. Teams do game plan to attack & neutralize the Rams 3 tech DL position & the quickness of the undersized AD. One way is to not use AD in the fixed 3 tech post as often as he has been n the past. Getting AD lining up all over that DL front thus disrupting our opponents plans to stop AD @ the 3 tech position.

AD is in camp for the first time in a long while first time with Wade as DC so now Wade / Henderson can get the needed practice time in for AD playing everywhere @ anytime...a true offensive nightmare.:death::seizure:

Henderson could throw out past DL coaches duo @ 3 tech post of Donald/Smart. Go with the new duo of Brockers {near 6-6/305lbs} & Donald {under 6-1 255/260 lbs}. Henderson might also consider sprinkling in veteran Brockers in with his 1st year NT's Sebastian Joseph-Day /Greg Gaines neither has ever suited up for a NFL game.

This suggested improvement plan @ the 3 tech & NT positions would provide our longest termed veteran DL leader Brockers with all the snaps his big heart desires. IMO it would also beef up these two DL positions with a better overall cadre of talent involved in these two positions.

Giving Brockers the chance to play the 3 tech post in relief of AD gives Brockers the opportunity to play this choice position of his youth like he did in the Rams 2012/2013 seasons when he has the two best seasons with QB pressures & 10 sacks.

It would then give Wade the chance to build the foundation for his future @ the DE/5 tech post......preparations for the Brockers departure in March 2020 in free agency. Henderson has 3 excellent young candidates with Morgan Fox/ John Franklin-Myers & rookie Marquise Copeland fighting it out @ the 5 tech post rotation. This trio of young 5 tech'ers can set up this DL position long into the future this season.

Los Angeles Rams: DT Marquise Copeland

  1. e22e5e74700fec4c91a786357e55f156_crop_exact.jpg

Marquise Copeland was one half of an elite Cincinnati interior duo last season (the other being Cortez Broughton), as he once again put on a show against the run.

According to Pro Football Focus, Copeland finished his senior year among the top 12 defensive tackles in run-stop percentage, topping off a four-year stint with 187 tackles and 8.5 sacks.

Perhaps the biggest problem? Copeland is just 6'2" and 281 pounds, so his particular area of expertise might require more weight.

Then again, Copeland and the Los Angeles Rams picked each other for a reason. L.A.'s multiple front looks like a great place for him to get some serious pro experience while trainers work with him to add good weight.

Enough Crow to go around?

I love the confidence of so many of you on here, to be 100% honest I'm still hurting bad from the Super Bowl loss, I think why it bothers me so much is that I KNOW we could have embarrassed those fing Patriots if Kupp was healthy or even if we just hadn't beaten ourselves that day. I don't want to get my hopes up too high just yet because a lot of things can happen. I just need the season to start, when we're sitting at 3-0 I'll be back on the hype train

Chargers' Russell Okung reveals details of 'serious medical condition'

Pulmonary embolism is a symptom of a much deeper and serious problem. Normally you are looking at some sort of thrombosis. Bottom line is that the initial treatment is pretty straight forward but the long term prognosis is where it gets tricky. He will be on anti-coagulants probably for the rest of his life. That alone might preclude a career in the NFL. But also he will forever be subject to re-occurrence. He will have to make changes to his diet and exercise routines. At the very least he would be foolish in the extreme to return this year and frankly I would question any doctor that would clear him. From his own statements it was a significant event.

Yes, I've had experience and training in the medical field. I was a Navy Corpsman for 6 years at Balboa Hospital in the ER, SICU and recovery units. I also did a stint as the "doc" on board a Fram converted DE. Granted medicine has changed a lot since then but somethings haven't. I don't see the team or the NFL willing to accept the liability.

I wish him well. If properly treated and managed he will have a long and happy life.
Change in exercise program how?

Quotes & Notes: Rams vets give their thoughts as they check in for 2019 training camp

After each media session, Quotes and Notes will bring you what was said, who said it, and what it means for your Los Angeles Rams.

“I’m really happy for the fact that they got extensions on their contracts.”
— CB Nickell Robey-Coleman
  • Rams slot corner Nickell Robey-Coleman was at the podium just after the organization announced both general manager Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay had signed extensions to stay under contract with Los Angeles through 2023.
  • Robey-Coleman was one of the first players Snead and McVay brought in during their partnership, as the USC product signed with the club in the 2017 offseason.
  • Robey-Coleman has become one of the premiere slot corners in the game, making Snead, McVay, and their respective staffs right on their initial decision.

“He’s a guy that has led this team with a vision from Day 1, and for this organization to be behind him and really show their good faith in him with the extension means a lot. He’s earned it.”
— P Johnny Hekker
  • Having been with the team since 2012, punter Johnny Hekker is one of the longest-tenured Rams and has seen a lot with the team’s turnaround.
  • Hekker praised McVay’s leadership, saying that his work ethic and willingness to put in such long hours makes him so effective.
  • Hekker also extolled McVay for his ability to communicate in a clear, concise way exactly what he wants.

“It’s crazy — just training with him this offseason, and I was looking over and seeing him move and I was like, ‘Man, this dude is back.’”
— WR Robert Woods
  • Wide receiver Robert Woods would say he’s not a doctor, but based on what he saw from fellow wideout Cooper Kupp during their summer workouts, Kupp appears to be in good shape heading into training camp.
  • Kupp tore his ACL during last season’s Week 10 victory over the Seahawks.
  • Woods and Kupp are going into their third season together as teammates.
  • While Kupp missed about half the season, he and Woods tied for the team lead with six touchdown receptions in 2018.

“If I see the the field zero times as a punter, I’m happy with that because it means we’re scoring touchdowns, kicking field goals, and PATs.”
— (Holder) Johnny Hekker
  • Speaking of touchdowns, Hekker punted the fewest times of his career last year at 43. That’s fewer than half of how much he punted in 2016 (98).
  • With how many points the Rams have scored over the past couple years, Hekker has been much more of a holder for kicker Greg Zuerlein’s field goals and PATs than he’s been a punter.
  • Even though his right leg got work just 2.7 times per game in 2018, Hekker finished No. 2 in net punting average (43.0 yards per punt).

“We’re just going to continue to do what we do as DBs.”
— CB Nickell Robey-Coleman
  • Robey-Coleman said he’s excited to get going with the Rams’ 2019 secondary group.
  • The Rams added veteran Eric Weddle to start at free safety, but aside from that the group is largely the same with Robey-Coleman, Marcus Peters, Aqib Talib, and John Johnson III.
  • Robey-Coleman credited the coaches for putting players in good positions to make plays. But the continuity within the team should help. And adding a player of Weddle’s caliber should aid in the defense’s potential improvement.

“It makes it really easy. Just going out there and working, practicing, and in games — I know where the ball is going to be every single time.”

— WR Robert Woods
  • Woods is entering his third season with quarterback Jared Goff, and the number reflect their strong chemistry.
  • Last season, Woods had a career year with 86 receptions for 1,219 yards and six touchdowns.
  • Earlier this week, Woods landed at No. 76 on the 2019 NFL Top 100 list.
  • Woods said on Friday that one of his goals for the upcoming season is to make more defenders miss tackles and gain additional yards after the catch.

“I’ve been thinking that way for about nine years — it’s like repeat. My poor wife, it’s taken her through the wringer over the years how many times she thinks, ‘That’s it.’”
— LT Andrew Whitworth
  • Left tackle Andrew Whitworth will turn 38 in December, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s about to retire.
  • When asked if he’s thought about the fact that this could be his last training camp, he said he almost always thinks of it that way.
  • Whitworth said he enjoys that his kids are now old enough to appreciate some of the moments that come along with being an NFL player — like checking in at the hotel for camp.

Position player earns save for first time in MLB history in Orioles' wild victory

Really cool!

Position player earns save for first time in MLB history in Orioles' wild victory

https://www.foxnews.com/sports/posi...t-time-in-mlb-history-in-orioles-wild-victory

A marathon, 16-inning baseball game that ended early Friday morning included a little-known feat accomplished for the first time in baseball history.

Baltimore came out on top of the Los Angeles Angels by a 10-8 score thanks to a two-run homer by Jonathan Villar in the top of the final frame. But it was what happened next that went into the record books. The Orioles, faced with a depleted relief corps, sent centerfielder Steve Wilkerson in to close out the game. Lobbing pitches that averaged just under 55 miles per hour, Wilkerson set the Angels down in order to record the Major Leagues' first save by a non-pitcher since the stat began being counted in 1969.

“I don’t think I’ve wrapped my head around it yet," Wilkerson said after the game. "What a wild game. That was just crazy. I’m glad I could go out there and be part of getting us a win.

“I did run up and get a pitching glove about the 13th inning or so," he added. "I know we were running thin on guys and we’d used Gaby and some of those other guys pretty recently, so I knew it was a possibility when the game was getting late. I think that was a gutsy performance by everybody.”

Wilkerson had appeared on the mound twice over the last month, both times in blowouts and in an effort to spare the Baltimore pitching staff. But Friday morning's appearance came with the game on the line. Fans could thank a generous strike zone and some unorthodox soft-tossing for the chance to finally go home. In the inning, Wilkerson retired Brian Goodwin, Kole Calhoun and future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols.

Another Oriole player, first baseman Chris Davis, in 2012 became the first position player since 1969 to earn a win, when he was credited with the victory against Boston on May 6, 2012.

Jared Goff: Contract extension 'not on my mind at all'

https://www.therams.com/news/jared-...ntial-contract-extension-as-2019-training-cam

Jared Goff not concerned about potential contract extension as 2019 training camp begins

Carson Wentz got his from the Eagles. The latest reporting has Dak Prescott likely getting his from the Cowboys at some point during training camp.

So what about Rams quarterback Jared Goff and a contract extension? If it seems inevitable, that’s because it probably is. But at the same time, Goff hasn’t missed a start due to injury since taking over as Los Angeles’ starter midway through the 2016 season. And because he was a first-round pick — unlike Prescott — he’s not heading into the final year on his contract.

That decreases the sense of urgency to get something done right now. And regardless, there is still that sense of inevitability.

Asked if there’s been any movement toward a potential extension since the end of the offseason program, Goff said simply, “Nothing’s changed. Just the same spot.”

And how does he feel about it?

“Time will take care of it. Just go out and play.”

Those simple four sentences encapsulate Goff and the way he approaches each day. Sean McVay often says that Goff’s even-keel demeanor is a good foil for the head coach’s excitability.

But when it comes to this season, Goff — who will turn 25 in October — will likely be counted on more than he has in the past. He’s entering his fourth season, which is often when quarterbacks solidify themselves as high-quality starters. And he’s going to be playing behind a line with two new starters.

“I feel like I’m getting old. Fourth year – it seems like it’s flown by,” Goff joked on Wednesday. “But yeah, excited for it. Excited to get back with a similar group of guys and get back to work.”

Goff mentioned it and despite the new OL starters it’s true — the Rams will return nine of 11 starters on offense from last year, plus a few key role players. Of the players expected to contribute early on in the season at running back, wide receiver, and tight end, only RB Darrell Henderson was not on the roster in 2018.

“It’s huge, especially with myself and the receivers, running backs and tight ends,” Goff said of the continuity. "Just having that continued chemistry and everything we’ve been working on, not only in the last couple of years, but this offseason off the field, just getting together as much as possible and feeling good. When you can have that similar group coming back, it’s good.”

When last season ended, Goff was one of many Rams who said part of the difficulty in processing it was that there wasn’t a chance to get back on the field and immediately make corrections. Now with the beginning of camp, that’s going to change. And Goff is ready to begin that process, taking everything day by day as the club has done so well under McVay.

“Yeah, it’s good. I think just continuing to move in the right direction and move forward — we feel good about who we have and where we are at,” Goff said. “I’m sure Sean feels the same way and we’re excited to get going.”

“I think every year is different, every team is different, but we know we have a good group and a chance to do good things. But, it starts one day at a time and it will start, I believe our first day is in two days with everyone, and that’s when it will truly start.”
