Taylor Rapp building a reputation as a ‘flat-out baller’ in Rams camp

Ya it's disappointing to see a S or CB running really fast ... in the wrong direction. Even worse, when they avoid tackles.
So far, seems like Rapp is checking both of the good boxes - running in the right direction, and tackling when he arrives.
Many years ago when I played high school football (it was a relatively small school), a lot of us played both ways - offense and defense. I played rb on O, and cb on D. There was a kid (linebacker) on the team whom many of us could beat in a 50 yard dash.

However – that kid was always around the ball and led the team in tackles. To the point: At the snap, just one step in the wrong direction let alone more, was enough to render you slow. The “slow” kid surely wasn’t slow when it came to reading and anticipating. Stopwatch speed as regards football is sometimes highly overrated.

2014-In What Scenario is Fisher Still HC?

I was shouted down on a clueless forum in St Louis for suggesting the Rams should take Mack at No. 2.
I understand how you feel, because I have taken contrarian views on that site and was ripped. However, no one knew that Aaron Donald and Khalil Mack would be as good as they were. AD was too short and too light to be that great 3 Tech DT. As for Mack, not every high pick pans out. GR had the tools to be an elite LT, but had the brain of a Foreest Gump..."Run, Greg...RUN." Fisher was a high potential guy, but a lot of times busted out with that exclusive philosphy. There were 3-4 potential good-great LT's in that draft, and we struck out like perennially losing teams do.

8to12 Camp Report - Scrimmage Vs Chargers

........With McVay's penchant for holding out starters in pre season, will he hold out Noteboom and Allen? For one, I sure as hell hope he doesn't. Those two aren't old guys who need who need rest, they need snaps.

Thinking the same thing last night. I would think that Kromer might convince McVay there is a strong need to get Noteboom & Allen some early action in the first two pre season games.

The 2018 season McVay went with the same five starters playing the full amount of snaps with very few snaps made available for those two rookies who are now starters. Now McVay will pay a price for that decision early this season.

Former Raiders wide receiver Cliff Branch dead at age 71

Just read that Don Banks, former SI writer, just died in his hotel in Canton this morning. Only 56 yrs old. Sad.

U.S.
Veteran NFL writer Don Banks dies at 56
Michael David Smith,ProFootball Talk on NBC Sports 1 hour 56 minutes ago

Don Banks, a journalist who covered the NFL for many years, died early this morning in Canton, Ohio, after covering the Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony. He was 56.

Banks had just begun working for the Las Vegas Review-Journal and published his first piece in today’s paper. The story, an inside look at how last season’s Hard Knocks affected the Browns, was a well-reported, well-written article, as Banks’ work so often was.

“Words can’t express the depth of sadness the Review-Journal staff feels for Don’s family and friends,” Review-Journal Executive Editor Glenn Cook said Sunday. “Beyond a sportswriting institution, Don was a dedicated husband and father and a class act. No NFL journalist commanded more respect. The sport has lost one of its finest storytellers.”

Banks covered the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday and the induction of new Hall of Famers on Saturday night and appeared healthy and excited about beginning his new job at the Review-Journal, according to colleagues. This morning he was found unresponsive in his hotel room in Canton. Paramedics arrived and found that he had died in his sleep.

A well-liked and respected reporter, Banks worked at several outlets in his long career but is best known for his 17 years at Sports Illustrated.

He is survived by his wife and two adult sons.

2019 NFL's Top 100

First of all there will always be unresolved debates when comparing players from different positions. With that said Bayless is a hack analyst. He is a sports personality that knows being controversial is better than being right. What he failed to admit that proves he is a hack is by standing by his proclamation that Brady had a better year than Donald and Mahomes. It’s a team sport with many facets and nuances. The Patriots beating the Chiefs twice and Donald having 0 sacks in the playoffs are convenient stats that don’t in and of themselves measure how good Mahomes and Donald are. What were Mahomes and Donald complete stats show for those games? I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he knows but purposely left that out of the conversation. If he didn’t know then he is a bigger hack than I ever thought.

Gurley: Dante Fowler is 'getting to the ball as fast as Aaron Donald'

The Rams saw something they liked in Fowler last year but not enough to give him a lucrative 2nd contract (like they did with Cooks). There is no doubt that Fowler will pick up where he left off and likely continue to grow into a formidable edge rusher. He is also very good at moving laterally as a run defender. His edge presence should also allow Donald to continue his success as an interior pass rusher. I believe the Rams would be smart to make a hard run at extending Fowler early in this season if he comes out hot. They don't want to let him hit free agency after a highly successful season because he will want a max 2nd contract (not a home team discount) and will have a number of suitors willing to one up the Rams.
True. If he does want a big pay day and if the rams cant/dont pay him then here's to hoping ebukam is the answer. If Fowler does turn out to be really good then I hope we keep him and let peters go. Wade's defense works best with a good edge rusher and a press corners. I don't think we keep Peters tbh.

Chargers Joint Practice (1st August)

Reynolds is pretty clearly the #4 receiver. Thomas needs to beat out the #5 and possibly #6 receiver if they keep one. He has talent - but health is also a talent, and this is his last chance with the Rams. He needs to show himself as significantly more valuable than the kids in training camp this year to keep his job. Hopefully besides the special team success he has shown, he shows he can be a quality NFL receiver. If I were to bet on it, I'd bet on him not making the cut though - the Rams need to keep younger deep depth players who won't be free agents, unless the fourth year players are clearly better in TC than their rivals. Keep in mind that cap space rolls over in most circumstances, so saving even a few hundred thousand means the Rams have more money for next season.
He doesnt cost that much, the Rams have had to of eaten quite a bit of dead money when releasing all the players they did when McVay came in. So while saving money may be something theyre keeping in mind right now, i don't think that was a reason to not cut him before. He wont cost much to keep around right now either. But like you said, he needs to beat out the younger cats. If he plays to his potential, he will IMO.

Rams training camp: Position battle updates after first 4 practices

I'd love to have a conversation. After years of hearing Howard Stern talk about Sarno I finally bought and read his book. I've since bought a few copies and given them to others - although every person I've given it to hasn't commented back to me.

I don't want to comment too far as I have not committed myself.

I do, however, want to say there is a lot of knowledge in Sarno's work and I think anyone reading this comment should at least look into it - no matter your physical and/or psychological place.

You're always welcome to DM me if you have any questions. Yeah, the work is amazing. Nothing like giving someone their life back after years of disability.

Countdown to Camp: Outside linebackers should be a strength for L.A. in 2019

It appears early that Wade has three healthy starting Edge Rushers to go into two posts currently{Fowler/ Matthews/ Ebukam}.

Somewhat of a surprise is reading & now seeing after yesterdays filmed practices with the Chargers of Morgan Fox getting snaps @ both ER & 5 tech DE post. Fox thus far has had a very good camp he can apply pressure from both posts. I would place Fox as the #4 ER due to the fact he is in his 4th Rams Training Camp has been on the Rams master roster (53) since 2016. Fox played in 20 NFL games & has started. I would not be surprised to see Fox lining up @ one of the two DL posts in Wade 2-4-5 defenses. This season I expect Fox to have an impact in these multiple type defenses in applying intense pressure on opponents QB's.

I see all four of the above experienced ER's making this team. All fighting for snaps & playing time. Is there really room or real need for more ? Most likely one of the remaining ER/OLB's will catch on the 53 player roster.

Snead delivered 3 ER's thru the 2018 draft into Wade hands. All 3 were day 3 draft selections. Justin Lawler was active for all 19 gms. JL saw action on defense & special teams. His best post was @ the strong side OLB'er position. Trevon Young was only active for 2 gms & was waived once during the 2019 season. Young was still not fully healthy in 2019 after experiencing serious medical issues in college. He does have some skills as a pass rusher & good size & length.

Snead also brought in former Titan/Redskin who entered the NFL in 2016 Josh Carraway & rookie Landis Durham.

Said the above to paint the picture of what Og Okoronwko is now facing @ this time. How many ER's is Wade going to keep? Okoronwko continues to miss time with injury. The other 4 continue to add very valuable practice time & game experience while OG remains out of the sun & elements resting on the training table in the air conditioning.:cautious::unsure::sadwalk:.

I wouldn't be too surprised if OgOk is pupped, then IR'd for 2019. Keep him around at least until Fowler signs long term without him counting against the roster. He's only one notch up from minimum wage, so he still might make reasonable insurance for going forward. jmo.

Quotes & Notes 8/2: Wade Phillips can’t say enough superlatives about Aaron Donald

Wide receiver Brandin Cooks was held out of the later portions of Thursday’s practice with hamstring tightness. But McVay said the wideout should be fine to participate in Saturday’s joint practice.

Whenever I hear about hamstring with a guy who relies on speed I get nervous. If there's even a hint of a hamstring problem I'd prefer he sits it out until they're sure.
