looks like the Dodgers were robbed of back to back World Series

Fuck the Astros fuck the Red Sox and most especially fuck Rob Manfred for these weak punishments for cheating.

Once again...……...way too light. Cora started it all in Houston then brought it to Boston. If any one person should be banned for life its that asshole.

Countdown to the Draft: Early 60s brought Rams franchise players

Countdown to the Draft: Early 60s brought Rams franchise players

Leading up to this year's NFL Draft, scheduled to take place April 23-25, theRams.com will revisit notable draft moments in team history. In the final installment of the four-part series, we take a look at 1961 and 1962 when the Rams acquired franchise players very late and very early in the draft.

Background

It's hard to believe, but the 7-round draft taking place this week was at one point nearly three-times as long.

That's right. Back in 1961, the draft lasted a whopping 20 rounds – and it would work to the Rams' advantage.

According to an April 2016 story published by ESPN's Nick Wagoner, defensive lineman Deacon Jones was a surprise discovery. Los Angeles' scouts were originally evaluating film of a running back playing against South Carolina State – where Jones played his first year of college football – but couldn't ignore the plays Jones continued to make in that same game.

The Rams later selected Jones in the 14th round with the 186th overall pick in the 1961 NFL Draft. The reason he was such a steal, per Wagoner was likely due to his small-school background coming out of Mississippi Valley State.

A year later, L.A. had the chance to secure more talent, though much earlier in the draft.

In 1962, the Rams became the eighth team in NFL history to own two of the top four picks in the draft.

They acquired the No. 2 overall pick – used to take North Carolina State quarterback Roman Gabriel – by trading two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver and First-Team All-Pro Del Shofner to the New York Giants following the 1960 season.

A 4-10 record in 1961 then landed them the No. 3 overall pick, used to select Utah defensive tackle Merlin Olsen.

Collectively, those three choices would become more than decade-long foundational pieces for the Rams.

Rams highlights

Jones' decorated 11-year career with the Rams included seven Pro Bowls and All-NFL honors for six straight years from 1965-70. Although sacks did not become an official stat until 1982, it is estimated he tallied 159.5 unofficially for his career. Jones is also credited for coining the term.

In his 11 years with the Rams, Gabriel established club records for most seasons and consecutive seasons leading the team in passing (nine, 1963-72) and career passing attempts (3,313). All three records remain unbroken to this day. His 1,705 career completions and 22,223 career passing yards are both third-most in franchise-history. A three-time Pro Bowler as a Ram, he was chosen as the 1969 NFL MVP by the Associated Press, UPI, NFL Newspaper Entertainment Association and won the league's player of the year award after leading the NFL in passing touchdowns that season (24).

Olsen unofficially collected 94 sacks in 15 seasons with Los Angeles, getting named to the Pro Bowl 14 times and earning six All-Pro honors during that span. His 15 seasons as a Ram share with Charlie Cowan and Joe Scibelli for second-most in franchise history. Olsen's 198 consecutive games played and 208 total games played from 1962-76 both rank second-most in franchise story.

In the late 1960s, Jones and Olsen teamed with Rosey Grier and Lamar Lundy to form the Fearsome Foursome – the nickname for what Hall of Fame linebacker Dick Butkus considers the most dominant defensive line in the NFL.

Both Jones and Olsen are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Rams Ring of Honor and on NFL's 75th anniversary team.

MemphisRams Mock Draft 3.0

Great start to help complete the defensive makeover. It would be good to get Biadaz and Jackson to compete on the offensive line. Fournette is a question mark for me at the cost of $4.167Mil for one-year rental with a $10Mil in year two 5th year option. I do think there could be a run of RBs that could limit the Rams options if they wait. Duvernay has some good qualities to work with. Overall a real solid draft. It's a draft I have envisioned getting the LBer/Edge help and still get help in other areas.

Some Ram question marks will be answered by Day 2...

Just saw this. More than one Ram!

God, how did I know that #1 on this list was Tom Brady? If they had waited until next year, they would have said, "In the Last 21 Years..."

Do things really fall in slow motion, when you drop them?

Thanks, @CGI_Ram. I have a couple more stories from that place. I didn't get fired. The manager of the store was a great guy. He was stern, but from a business standpoint. I could understand that, and we talked about it from time to time. However, I could also see him firing my ass as well. Nothing came out of my paycheck, and I didn't have to pay them back. They wrote it off as damaged, and I was shown what it cost them. They knew I didn't have it anyway. I told them I'd pay it, but it fell on deaf ears.

Ellenbogen | Final 350 Player 2020 NFL Draft Big Board

There are some interesting takes. Plenty we agree on. Plenty we don't. I'd say the position I disagree with you on the most is TE. I think Brycen Hopkins has impressive movement skills, but he's a soft player who drops too many passes. That's a big problem for me. Wouldn't draft before Day 3. I think Kmet, Asiasi, and Harrison Bryant are the three best TEs I've evaluated in this class (haven't evaluated Trautman).

In my book, Moss is a 5th or 6th round pick. He's very sure-handed and an impressive blocker for his size, but he has no separation quickness and limited YAC skills. He's essentially a "U" TE who will block well and will do some damage underneath (mainly against zones) as a possession receiver. But he's not a starting Y or F imo. I don't like Parkinson at all. He's an F who isn't a great athlete. That'll be problematic in the NFL.

RB - AJ Dillon vs Derrick Henry - based on stats he should be a steal

What I'm saying is that I think it is incompatible with how he schemes. I don't really see it as evolving. I think expanding personnel packages or the diversity of our blocking schemes is evolving. I don't really think specialists at HB is evolving. I think it's limiting, personally. It makes sense for a team who attacks differently than we do, but I don't think it's compatible with what McVay wants to do.

Hell, I think letting Wade walk indicates that. Why? He wanted to replace Wade's execution/strength vs. strength approach with an approach that emphasizes scheming and keeping the other team off balance. A guy like Dillon tips your hand. He makes sense for a team that says, "I'll take my strength and beat your strength with it." But for a team that wants to outsmart the defense, I don't think he makes a lot of sense. In that vein, he's more indicative of the Wade approach than the McVay approach. Am I making sense?
Agree completely. That is the key McVay took from the Super Bowl...which should always be the goal. When playing talented playoff teams, it is the team that can do the unexpected. Good teams will always scheme to take away your strength...so you need skill position players that can athletically attack in unexpected ways.

The 2020 supplemental draft could be one for the ages

If the college season is still in jeopardy this summer, there could be a lot of draft eligible players ready to jump to the NFL. Normally this draft is for players who have lost their eligibility (although Terrell Pryor provided the blueprint on how to get around that). I could see the NFL granting a lot of requests to enter the league.

If the 2020 college season is cancelled, the 2021 NFL draft could be one of the worst ever, between the 2020 supplemental draft losses and players sticking around for a 2021 season.

I wonder how the Rams would approach a supplemental draft filled with legitimate NFL prospects, not just guys who failed a drug test or were ruled academically ineligible.

Interesting.

Any Blake Bortles (Backup QB) Updates?

I just dont see the value in drafting a QB unless the Rams
a) carry 3 QB- (hope not)
b) draft a kid who can step instantly in to the #2 spot-
I dont see where a 6th or 7th rounder can be THAT guy to come in and win the #2 job
If you are drafting a QB to be a multi year backup, I think he's got to be in the 2nd-4th round range who has serious starter potential.
Otherwise, QB fodder for the practice squad and the cheapest vet you find to run the #2's

As for Bortles, he may as well wait it out. Ultimately take a low ball deal when waiting for an injury to a starter doesnt pan out

I’m curious on what The Rams do. Like CGI says He has trust in the coaches. Mcvay says he hasn’t been looking at QB’s.. Wondering if it is just that time of season ??
Made a wager last year The Rams would not pick up a QB during the draft. This draft I think there is a chance, because of the open spot. That always says a lot to me. Just like a RB will be like the top(‘s) postition spot in 2020. Made a play this year The Rams won’t draft a Offensive Lineman. Now with the extra pick I’ll a little more curious, but don’t see a Center being one of them.

Clock for Draft Countdown

So basically they are using server time and do not have localization

That’s it. It doesn’t offer localization.

Our take on the timer is this;
  1. It’s @flv ’s fault it doesn’t adjust TZ
  2. It tells you what the next “big thing” is
  3. It gets you close to when it is
  4. It’s all @flv fault it doesn’t adjust TZ

I keep checking if another option exists. I haven’t found one.

In closing; It’s all @flv fault it doesn’t adjust TZ
