Rams draft picks sign

aches and media following the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Sloman, 5-8, 205, was picked 248th overall by the Rams after 49 of 62 field goal attempts in four seasons at Miami (Ohio). He improved his made field goal percentage in each of those four years, and that development culminated with Second-Team All America honors from The Athletic and a Second-Team All-MAC selection.

Rams camp protocol preview - COVID

Hoping the NFL can pull it off, but as of today it sure seems unlikely IMHO they can make it work.

Yeah, it feels like we stand a good chance to have opening week games. But an interruption of some sort. You can’t cancel games without making them up somehow in a sport that doesn’t make catch-up like that, easy. And a league of so few games.

Sure looks like a season broken up oddly, maybe. Who knows.

Go Rams! :foot

At the snap I presume Kupp is the hot
View attachment 37632

At the drop the OL is doing a fine job with 6 rushers but Goff knows he's gotta get this out quick
View attachment 37633

As the rushers break through Kupp is enduring a nice hold courtesy of 22. Uncalled of course. But unfortunately Goff doesn't see Woody's guy hitting the ground for what would be a very nice gainer...
View attachment 37634

Throw to Kupp is out and will be incomplete. Poor choice here IMO by the QB who allowed the D to speed his clock. Check out Woody midfield

Look at B. Cooks guy & how open he would have been if he runs an out as soon ass the defender turned his back ? The guy had no idea where Goff was. He just didn’t want to get beat deep.

What do we have in Kenny Young?

Thanks this is the article I was looking for.

Kenny Young returns to his "backyard" after trade from Ravens to Rams

STAFF WRITER
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – New Rams LB Kenny Young is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, though he could almost count Los Angeles as a second home.
A trade from the Ravens to Rams on Tuesday brought him to a new team, but one with many recognizable faces and sights.
"Back home, UCLA's right down the street, so it really feels like I'm in my backyard," Young told Rams team reporter Sarina Morales after practice Wednesday.

Indeed, Young's former college campus is less than an hour from the Rams' training facility. It turns out the proximity played a role in his eventual path to the Rams, too.
Young got on Los Angeles' radar during his Bruins career, which was highlighted by two highly seasons as an upperclassman. He posted 90 tackles, five sacks, three pass breakups and three fumble recoveries en route to All-Pac 12 second team honors as a junior, then followed it up with a team-high 110 tackles, one sack and three pass breakups in a first-team all-conference senior season.
"We knew he was a really talented athlete," Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips said. "He can run, he can change direction and has speed. He has some real good assets (for a defense)."

Ultimately, he ended up getting chosen No. 122 overall by the Ravens in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, posting 64 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, one pass breakup and two forced fumbles across 21 career games in Baltimore.

The Rams never lost sight of him, though.

"We had some affinity for what he could do in college because he was right down the road," Rams GM Les Snead said. "I knew he had started a good bit of games, so we call it 'blue man.' I can punch blue man and filter out his plays and I got (Director, Pro Scouting) Ray Agnew, 'Hey, run down and see if (Special Teams Coordinator) Coach (John) Fassel would appreciate him.' Again, because of the (LB) Bryce Hager injury a couple of weeks ago, we had been talking about, 'What if he can't go, do we need to get a linebacker?' It was nice timing on Kenny as well."

During his rookie season in Baltimore, he teamed up with veteran safety Eric Weddle, who signed with the Rams earlier this offseason. Young views Weddle as a role model.
"He was the guy on the defense," Young said about his interactions with Weddle last season. "He's always the guy, man. He's an intelligent guy, and he knows the game very, very well from all aspects. I strive to be in that position one day very, very early. With him being here, it's cool."

So far, he's acclimating to his new linebacker room well. Rams ILB Cory Littleton said Young is doing everything he can to be ready whenever his number is called.
"He's a smart dude," LB Cory Littleton said. "Willing to pick anything up. He's really loving the system that's here in place, and he said he's picking it up pretty well. A guy that's just devoting himself to everything that we've already got going on, just to make sure he'll be ready for us 100 percent whenever that will be, is always a great guy in my book."

While Young's role is still to be determined – understandable, as he has completed two practices and a walkthrough as of Thursday evening – he already has a strong understanding of what's expected of him within his own position group.
"I think it's just simple – come in and be an enforcer, run sideline to sideline, make plays, communicate, have fun and win, cause turnovers," Young said. "It's the right fit for me and I'm excited."

Like any player, a lot of how they play depends upon scheme fit. To suggest that Wade wanted him as the reason he was included in the trade isn't true. Wade benched him when he got here. Does that sound like he wanted him? IMO Staley will use him like an in the box SS which allows him to use his natural athleticism. Snead targeted Young, I have to believe it's because they wanted him for a specific reason. That would seem to me is his positional versatility. Look at his drafting of Terrell Burgess, who can play all the positions in the secondary. Kiser's role to me would be the thumper in the middle which is the classical role for a MIKE, but he has the speed to drop into coverage on early down passes or as an interior blitzing backer. Young brings the same thing to the table. If coached up properly he has the athleticism to play like a WIL/MO ILB in the normal coverage LB role or play as an in the box SS or an A gap blitzer.

No one suggested that Wade wanted him. It was more a question of why Rams wanted him in the trade? Was it Wade or Snead or both or was it just for a needed roster spot and special teams?

Wade had nice things to say about him. Seems like Snead had liked him in college and the Rams needed a fill-in for Hager. He also could and did play special teams. He didn't do much making 4 tackles on special teams. It was just strange how he didn't get any regular snaps with he Rams while Reeder was still getting snaps with questionable play. Strange how Wade played a rookie UDFA over Young who had experience with some success.

I don't know if Young is what Staley is looking for as a scheme fit. He will get a shot at playing ILber spot in 2020.

45 days until football

Glad you brought up, being I was one. Under Rich Brooks, it was really bad, they went through a couple including Joe Valerio, who they signed for that purpose and his first snap went directly right over Punter's Sean Landeta's head.

One of the first free agents Vermeil signed was Jeff Robinson for that reason and problem solved. Since Robinson, all pro as a long snapper, Chris Massey from Marshall all pro and Jake McQuaide from The Ohio State University all pro, so it's been quite a ride since 1997!

It sure has. Well said, there. (y)

For your information

All Sportsbook cash totals have been reset as of July 27 2020. The plan is to run the Sportsbook on a July-July revolving year rather than March-March. This was originally down to the XFL filling the gap between the NFL and the Draft and also the natural gap that appears in the July calendar. Obviously covid19 has changed the landscape.

The plan is still to run July-July. Everyone starts with $50K in Sportsbook cash. We plan to add $10-20K more cash before the start of the NFL season to encourage bets on NFL futures. We plan to add $10K per week during the NFL regular season and possibly higher amounts during the NFL playoffs. The base cash should be around $300K by the Super Bowl. ROD's Most Sportsbook Cash winner will be determined as soon as is practicable after the NFL season has been completed. (Non NFL events will obviously count towards the total but we want the NFL to be the main focus). The Sportsbook will remain open with irregular cash boosts for those who wish to bet on the NFL Draft and other Spring/Summer events until the July 2021 reset.

The current Sportsbook software is of poor quality. The software improved from 2016 through to 2018. We had to change the software in 2019 and the new software is well below the 2016 quality. We are aware that events appear posted upside down, the tags are mostly erased before 2019, the comments don't load properly, the event details and RULES don't by appear on the page by default, limits can be circumvented, and so on. There are also some other flaws and missing features that you don't see, (which is why there were no free bets in 2019). Sportsbook events are subject to rules and limits. It is NOT a free-for-all. Details are normally posted in the Event details section on each Sportsbook page. The point of these rules is to make the earning/winning of Sportsbook cash and the Most Sportsbook Cash title a fair, season-long challenge. You should NOT be able to dominate by getting lucky and going all-in on what should be a $50 fun prop. Because of software flaws we can't easily police event limits, but abusing the system will not end well. IF IN DOUBT - ASK FIRST!

7 underdog UDFAs who have real shot to earn roster spot

I guess I'm one of the few that believed the Rams Offensive Line improved when they moved Austin Blythe to center to replace Brian Allen. Blythe IMO, is a more natural Center and the line calls plus the consistency of the snaps were obvious to the naked eye.

Mr. Stuter writes about Cohl Cabral who is much bigger then Blythe at 6-5 304lbs, but limited athletically (which centers usually are) and Cabral's hand technique does not measure up to Blythe because of Blythe's wrestling background. Here is what I think when it comes to Center, I don't believe in Brian Allen at all, he's even smaller than Blythe and his snap consistency was abysmal...My feeling if Blythe shows well, he could get a contract extension, if not, then next season I believe the Rams will utilize an early draft choice 2nd or 3rd round on a Center, but again, the difference IMO at Center between Blythe & Allen was night & day while also thinking Blythe is far better at Center then Guard.

Besides Owner Carroll Rosenbloom coming from the Baltimore Colts, he also brought CB Charlie Stukes in 1973 and Stukes was the Rams best CB back then.

No Preseason Games in 2020 | Roster cut from 90 to 80

Wow, glad you were impressed with our start last year. I do believe that preseason games play a definite role in evaluating talent at a different pace and with the roar of the crowd separating the players who are ready, from the overwhelmed. I loved seeing the young talent. I still think resting our OL like they were polished and ready to go was a mistake.

I doubt more prep time would've helped that group much. There seemed to be an overall uptick in OL performance as they simply got replaced.

NFL wants to cut player costs by $40M

All that name calling and worrying for them to go and agree on a deal in the end.

you mean like this guy? funny they agreed to the plan just hours later.

TODD GURLEYRB, ATLANTA FALCONS

Todd Gurley said he's open to sitting out the season if the NFL doesn't come up with a proper COVID-19 safety plan.
“It’s really not structured right,” Gurley said about the NFL’s current restart plan. “There’s not a proper plan in place that I’m comfortable with. I don’t have a wife. I don’t have any kids. You have to look at guys on the other side who have [a] pregnant wife, kids and a wife that they go home to every single day. I just feel like we just need to come up with something a lot better than what they’re giving us. Everything they gave us is pretty last minute. We should have been able to have answers weeks ago, if not months ago. You have to be prepared to not play or be prepared to have a half a season. If they don’t do things right, we won’t have a full season. It’s just how things have been going so far this year. Hopefully everything goes well, but I don’t see [it]. It just doesn’t sit well right now.” The league and NFLPA are working on a plan as we speak, but this is something that should've been done weeks ago, as Gurley said, with training camps scheduled to open this coming week. Gurley is one of the first players we've seen actually talk about the possibility of sitting out.

Offense returns most snaps from 2019 in NFC West

Offense returns most snaps from 2019 in NFC West
Bret Stuter

Love it or hate it, the LA Rams brought the band back together for one more season. Well, on the offensive side of the ball at least. While we have been touting that as a strong advantage for the LA Rams in this zany, crazy, mixed-up, bizarre, and uncanny 2020, we have been one of the few to lobby the point. Are we simply ahead of the curve? Perhaps, as others who are heavily involved in analytics and trending are concluding. That’s what the latest report from Over the Cap reveals, thanks to author Jason Fitzgerald.

After all, it makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it? While other teams are shaking hands and learning the names of teammates, the LA Rams offense is already working the first set of offensive plays from the playbook. Only the Rams running back Cam Akers and perhaps to a lesser extent Van Jefferson factor in to have significant roles in the offense in the first month of the season. Per the OTC article, the Rams return 87.4 percent of the 2019 offensive snaps in 2020 players. That means that the team is about 1.4 players shy of offensive players from a year ago.

NFC West comparison

How do the other NFC West teams compare? Believe it or not, the Arizona Cardinals are second with just 77.5 percent of 2019 offensive snaps returning in 2020 players. That translates into over 2.5 players shy of offensive players from a year ago. Next up is the San Francisco 49ers who are just 74.3 percent of 2019 offensive snaps returning to the team for this season. That places the 49ers into nearly a 3 player deficit from a year ago. But the largest impact, and one almost nobody had dared to mention, is the Seattle Seahawks who return just 65.8 percent of their 2019 offensive snaps. That means they will be shy the equivalent of 3.8 players from last year’s offense. Unfortunately for them, many of their best offensive linemen are gone this year.

Of course, that trend reverses on defense, where the 49ers and Cards return most of their defenders from a year ago. Only the Seahawks return fewer snaps on defense this year than the LA Rams. I’m good with the Cardinals defense coming back. That defense stunk, and they focused mainly on offense this year. While the 49ers defense is good, they are on film now, so offenses will exploit them much like the Chiefs did last season.

While this is just one more bit of evidence that the LA Rams are smoldering for a fast-burning come back in 2020, it adds to the compelling position that the Rams are indeed a team capable of climbing back, rather than a team plunging to the basement of the NFC West as so many have portrayed.

Sean McVay says Rams will adopt 49ers' running back strategy in 2020

Since you have done all the great breakdown work on Everett (and others), I respectfully have a question for you.

Clearly Everett is not one of our top blocking tight ends. But in terms of not getting the ball, is it just a matter of Goff's read progression and/or ball distribution? Or is there any reason to think that the Rams have less confidence in Everett's route running, specifically that he will be in the right place at the right time or make the right adjustment?
We'll never know exactly why he's not getting the ball. OCs shape the offense with read priorities for given looks and where he falls in that priority is related to what they think of him. Some think McVay has overlooked him. I'm of the mind that he simply hasn't impressed McVay enough in his daily work and camp and all that to build the right level of trust.

And I don't think a guy like Everett will ever be a great route runner. But he doesn't need to be in this offense because he's not gonna draw the top corners and will get LBs in certain situations. So IMO the run blocking side is probably where McVay wants to see more. And the reason for that is because a TE who can block gets overlooked early in plays when it looks like they're blocking. Which is why top TEs like Gronk can slip through a defense uncovered at times, because at the play's start he sold run action and whoever had him as their first read moved on.
