2021 Cap set at $180M Minimum

Can't wrap my mind around that.

Floyd was about the same as Fowler IMO. Floyd better against the run, Fowler better pass rusher. We've seen Fowler before and after AD, we've seen Floyd before AD and the one game where AD was rendered ineffective he was a JAG.

Watt or not - that information is enough for me to not pay Floyd.

I don’t think we can compete for Floyd. We don’t go after Watt either, IMO

My guess; we try to find another Floyd... guy on prove it deal, or linebacker out there somewhere that could do it.

McVay Press Conference 2/25 Noon

When I was in Nuclear Field ET A school, the idea was that our education was harsh because the conditions would be exact. We'd eventually graduate to go from ET to RO... Reactor Operator as our MOS and as the man on the board have immense responsibility.

I'm familiar with being under people we are unrelentingly exacting.

Some people take to it, some don't.

Doesn't make Goff a bad person, but some folks just cannot wrap their head around that level of nearly autistic focus. It makes them doubt themselves and they feel undermined.

I've only just come to realize at 52 that I'm on the Autism Spectrum and have ADD-I or ADHD-inactivity and I understand McVay very well.

I get that focus because I possess it myself. When I'm interested, I HAVE to know everything and when something throws me for a curve, I will obsess about it until I've figured something out.

It was interesting when I started BJJ and as a white belt I was stumbling into some really advanced techniques just by trying to figure out escapes, sweeps and transitions. It's how my brain works.

Don't take that as a brag of any kind. Repetitive shit just wrecks me as does any kind of schedule (more now, less then) so I always struggled with the "just show up and do" type stuff that is so easy for most people.

I think this will be a win-win as Goff will get coaching better suited to him and Stafford will get the in depth offensive minded coach he's been seeking. I mean when he had it, he went 11-5 under Caldwell, iirc, and I'd take McVay over Caldwell every day of the week and 100 times on Game Day.
We all know it was because you was a glowing twidget sub-boy, that messed you up... ~ conventional ET

Memento's Fuck Snow Mock Offseason.

Pretty astute as you are correct, not a lot of power backs this draft. Last year Bailey turned out to be a pretty good pick for Green Bay.

If we're looking for a goal-line guy other than Stephenson, I can see these guys also in later rounds: Trey Sermon, Kylin Hill, Trey Regas or Brandon Knox.
AJ Dillon (not Bailey--he's the other BC back)

17 game season might be here in 2021

NFL owners working to implement 17-game schedule for 2021 season

The NFL and team owners are attempting to complete arrangements to put a 17-game regular season into effect beginning with the 2021 season, probably accompanied by a three-game preseason.

The deliberations about when to implement the 17-game season are tied in part to the completion of new broadcasting contracts with the television networks, according to people familiar with the planning of the league and owners. It’s not yet certain that the longer regular season will take effect this fall, but that’s what owners appear to be targeting, with the corresponding preseason reduction.

“I don’t think anything is definite, but I think it will be 17 and three,” one of those people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the NFL has not given a precise timetable about when the 17-game season will take effect.

The collective bargaining agreement between the league and the NFL Players Association ratified in March authorizes the owners to implement a 17-game regular season as soon as 2021 but does not specify a starting date.

The NFLPA secured financial concessions from the owners in exchange for the season being lengthened from 16 to 17 games per team. It has been widely expected that the owners will put the 17-game season into effect in 2021, wasting no time in capitalizing on the revenue-enhancing opportunity that comes with a longer regular season.

Owners voted in December to ratify a scheduling formula for a 17-game season. The 17th game will be an out-of-conference game based on teams’ order of finish within their divisions the previous season. NFC and AFC teams are expected to alternate annually between having nine home games in a season vs. eight home games.

The league also has not specified how long the preseason will be if the switch to a 17-game regular season is made. A three-game preseason would keep the total number of preseason and regular season games at 20 per team.

There has been speculation about a two-game preseason. Last year’s preseason was eliminated entirely as the league navigated the coronavirus pandemic.

The league’s new TV contracts, now being negotiated, are expected to reflect the addition of regular season games. The league and owners are anticipating a significant increase to the rights fees being paid for TV and streaming rights.

The NFL and NFLPA could use that promise of increased revenue from future broadcasting rights fees to smooth over the drop in next season’s salary cap by, in effect, borrowing against future salary caps. The league and union have agreed that the salary cap for the 2021 season will be no lower than $180 million.

That’s down significantly from the salary cap of $198.2 million for the 2020 season. But it’s not as low as it could be, given the steep revenue decline suffered during a pandemic-affected season in which games were played in empty or partially filled stadiums. The NFL and NFLPA calculate the salary cap annually based on a percentage of revenue and, under these unique circumstances, have negotiated to keep the decline in the 2021 cap from being too pronounced.

The sides already implemented a revenue-boosting measure by putting an expanded playoff format into effect for the 2020 season. The playoff field was increased from 12 to 14 teams, making for two additional opening-round postseason games (after one first-round bye in each conference was eliminated). The expanded playoffs, like the 17-game season, were a part of last year’s CBA.

Get to know the new additions to the Rams coaching staff

Sean McVay expands on new titles and roles for returning coaches

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Rams head coach Sean McVay held a video conference with local media Thursday to discuss his finalized 2021 coaching staff which includes the new titles for multiple returning members.

Here's what he had to say about each of those coaches with added responsibilities for the 2021 season:

Offense

Assistant head coach/running backs coach Thomas Brown

Brown served as running backs coach in his first season with the Rams, and now adds assistant head coach to this title entering his second season on their staff. Linebackers coach Joe Barry, who was hired by the Packers as their next defensive coordinator, previously held that role.

Brown was instrumental in running back Cam Akers' development over the course of his rookie season. Despite missing three games due to injury, Akers finished as the team's leading rusher with 625 yards, highlighted by 171 rushing yards against the Patriots in Week 14 – most by a Rams rookie running back in a single game since Jerome Bettis in 1993.

"He's got such a refreshing security about himself, ability to command the room, communicate," McVay said. "I think what I've always appreciated about our interactions in the last year that we've spent together, (is that) he's always going to tell me what I need to hear, not what I want to hear. And sometimes that's hard to find as a head coach. He's very decisive, but then he's also open minded. And he's got just such a great grasp of this game and a great ability to relate to people to bring out the best in his group, when you see what he did with the running back group in particular last year. So he's going to do a great job assuming more responsibilities there, as a great leader of this football team."

Tight ends coach/pass game coordinator Wes Phillips

Phillips adds pass game coordinator to his duties after spending his first two seasons on the Rams staff as tight ends coach. The role of pass game coordinator was previously held over the last three seasons by Shane Waldron, who was hired by the Seahawks as their next offensive coordinator in late January.

In 2019, Phillips helped Tyler Higbee set single-season franchise records for both receptions (69) and receiving yards (734) by a tight end. In 2020, Higbee caught five touchdowns – second on the team behind wide receiver Robert Woods' six.

"I think it's just a reflection of the caliber of coach that he is, the command that he has on all 11 offensively and the different ways that we want to be able to attack people," McVay said. "And I think he and Kevin O'Connell will really work well together, figuring out the best ways to attack people specifically through the air."

Offensive assistant Zak Kromer

The son of former Rams offensive line coach and run game coordinator Aaron Kromer, Zak will serve as an offensive assistant in 2021 after spending his first four seasons on staff primarily working with the offensive line as an offensive quality control coach (2017-2020).

In 2019, with the help of Zak's adjustments throughout the season due to injury along the offensive front, the offensive line did not allow a sack in a franchise-best six games, while also allowing the fewest sacks in the league (22). In 2020, the Rams offensive line tied with the Titans for sixth-fewest sacks allowed in the league (25).

"I'm looking forward to continuing to work with Zak Kromer, who's really developed into a really nice coach," McVay said.

Defense

Defensive line coach/run game coordinator Eric Henderson

Henderson originally joined the Rams staff in 2019 as defensive line coach and helped the group accomplish a lot over the last two years, including finishing with the fourth-most sacks in the league (50) in 2019 and second-most (53) in 2020.

Additionally, fresh off his fourth-straight season with double-digit sacks – the last two working under Henderson – Rams defensive lineman and three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald said last month Henderson has "learned a lot from" and wants to continue to learn and build with.

Following that pass-rushing success, he'll be adding run game coordinator duties to his responsibilities in 2021, helping devise the best ways for Los Angeles' defensive front to attack opponents' rushing offenses.

"That run game coordinator (role), he will really head up a lot of the front mechanics, the different things in terms of how we want to defend people in some of those run downs, (it) is going to be a real big deal," McVay said. "And it's a real credit to what he's done."

Linebackers coach Chris Shula

This a second promotion for Shula, who has been on the Rams staff since 2017 – McVay's first season as head coach. Shula previously spent the last two seasons coaching L.A.'s outside linebackers; prior to that, he was an assistant linebackers coach in 2017 and 2018.

Last season, Shula helped outside linebacker Leonard Floyd record a career-high 10.5 sacks and 50 total tackles.

In 2019, Shula helped outside linebacker Dante Fowler Jr. produce a career season that featured a career-best 11.5 sacks to go along with career highs in tackles (58), forced fumbles (two), passes defensed (six), tackles for loss (16) and quarterback hits (16). That same year, he assisted Clay Matthews in tallying his highest sack total (8) since the 2014 season.

"Chris Shula is going to oversee all of the linebackers, but what's really unique about it is it also provides an opportunity for Thad Bogardus to take a step in the right direction, being able to have chances to oversee some of the outside linebackers on the field, in those meetings if Chris is with the inside group," McVay said.

Assistant linebackers coach Thad Bogardus

This is also a second promotion for Bogardus, who originally joined the Rams staff in 2017. Bogardus spent the last two seasons as an assistant defensive line coach after serving as a defensive quality control coach in 2017 and 2018.

As McVay mentioned earlier, Bogardus' new role will afford him the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of another level of the defense and work with the outside linebackers at times.

Secondary coach/pass game coordinator Ejiro Evero

Another original 2017 staff member, Evero takes on an elevated role in 2021 as secondary coach/pass game coordinator after serving as safeties coach over the last four seasons.

In his previous role, Evero was instrumental in the development of John Johnson III, Taylor Rapp and Jordan Fuller, all of whom earned starting roles in their first seasons. Johnson recorded 119 tackles, 11 passes defensed and a team-leading four interceptions in 2018, his second season as a starter. Rapp finish third on the team in tackles as a rookie in 2019, also adding two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown). Fuller tied for second on the team in interceptions in 2020 with three and finished as the Rams' fifth-leading tackler (60 total).

"He'll really work in unison with Chris Shula on the coordination of the back seven and how we want to defend people, really in all parts of the pass game," McVay said. "He's looking at that back-seven, but that's not exclusive. I think you want always have all three levels tied in. It's a credit to what he's done, his development as a coach."

Assistant secondary coach Jonathan Cooley

Cooley joined the Rams coaching staff last season as a defensive quality control coach, after serving as the University of Akron's defensive backs coach in 2019. He was Kent State's secondary coach in 2018, and also served as the University of Tennesse at Chattanooga's defensive backs coach in 2017.

"Another young, sharp up-and-coming coach has a great command of the game working as the assistant secondary coach, where he was kind of a quality control, defensive assistant last year," McVay said.

Aaron Kromer is 7th assistant to leave Rams' coaching staff

Is all this plundering going to show up in more losses? KC and Tampa have been pretty consistent with their staffs the last few years and the Rams seemingly have a revolving door of coaches. Finding and integrating new people into the organization takes time and energy that could be spent elsewhere.
Not sure about the losses, but what do you do? It's not like McVay can control coaches be plundered.
Maybe he could have blocked some interviews, but the last thing you want as a HC is a reputation
of being a dead end opportunity employer.

Somebody is getting Sam Darnold cheap

Adam Gase is 32-48 in five seasons that makes Jeff Fishers 7-9 bullshit look good. Clearly Sam Darnolds two years with him are to blame for Gase having four straight losing seasons including two in Miami while Sam was winning games at USC.

Todd Bowles likewise has one winning season a career 26-41 record and he never made the playoffs.

Such great coaching careers those two have had. People were saying the same thing as you about Tannehill when Gase couldn't coach him.
How many mixed metaphors is that?
First, Sam isnt good, and that will be proven.
Second, anyway who says Gase saw Tannehill regress is clueless, he played his best for Gase (as a Dolphin) and had he not blown out his knee they both are probably still in South Beach
I get it though, you're a Trojan guy reppin your boy. And I liked him in college, and unfortunately due to my cancelling Direct TV, i've watched more Jets football in the last 2 years than I care to admit. Sam has players, its a misnomer that he doesnt. He is just really inaccurate. People were furious about Goff's pick against Seattle? Darnold throws 3 or 4 of those a game.

Malcolm Brown is dependable in multiple roles | Free Agent Spotlight

Malcolm Brown is dependable in multiple roles | Free Agent Spotlight

Dubbed "Mr. Reliable" by Rams running backs coach/assistant head coach Thomas Brown, running back Malcolm Brown (no relation) was asked to juggle multiple roles during the 2020 season.

Listed at 5-foot-11 and 228 pounds, he was more than capable of picking up blitzes in pass protection. He was also a dependable option inside the five yard line, but also showed he was capable of making plays in the passing game, too.

However, with the two-year deal he signed with the Rams in 2019 – as a result of the Rams matching the Lions' two-year offer sheet when he was a restricted free agent then – expiring following the 2020 season, Brown is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent when the new league year begins on March 17.

So what are the options for the Rams and the 27-year-old Brown?

Naturally, one of them is the Rams re-signing Brown. He's played in 69 out of a possible 80 regular season games over the last five years, including all 16 in 2020. In Los Angeles' committee approach last year, Brown finished as its third-leading rusher with a career-high 419 rushing yards, also matching his career high for rushing touchdowns with five. His 23 receptions for 162 yards were also career-highs.

If the Rams and Brown decide to go in different directions, the Rams could seek out Brown's replacement through the draft or free agency as the third member of the running back rotation. While 2020 undrafted free agent signee Xavier Jones (5-foot-11, 208 pounds) doesn't have the exact same frame as Brown, the Rams could also turn to him as the No. 3 running back.

Woman rescues dog from drowning in icy swimming pool

Pretty cool story.

Woman rescues dog from drowning in icy swimming pool

MURFREESBORO, TN - Home security video captured a pet owner in Tennessee leaping into a frozen swimming pool to rescue her dog that was drowning below the ice.
Jennie Tatum told WZTV her two dogs were playing in her backyard when one of them, Sid, slipped into the pool and fell through the ice. Tatum, who was watching form her back porch, jumped into the water to save her dog but couldn't see him through the layer of ice covering the pool.
After surveying the pool for several seconds, she spotted Sid below the surface and pulled the barely conscious pet out of the water. She then called her neighbor who is a veterinarian and rushed Sid to an animal hospital.
The vet said that just a few seconds more in the icy water and Sid may not have survived.
Tatum said her pool pump, which would have prevent the water from icing over, broke just a week before the winter storm swept through parts of the U.S. this past week.

Eagles agree to trade QB Carson Wentz to Colts for two draft picks

I dunno. Even with two firsts, likely in the 20s both years if not 32, the offer from us without Goff wasn't NEARLY as good as the Carolina offer.

I don't doubt that Brad Holmes WANTED Goff.

He's got the pedigree for it. He's a quiet leader who helps build up franchises. He did it at Cal and he did it with the Rams.

I think he can do it with the Lions, especially with the QB coach they hired. I think with our turnover, the OC and QB coaching may have lagged a bit for what Goff needed.

I'm THRILLED Stafford is coming.

And, I take Holmes at his word that they WANTED Goff. And if they can get him back to 2018 Goff, they've got a steal of a trade done.

Brad Holmes may have wanted Goff but Stafford told them he wanted to go to a contender too. The Panthers were not one. I think Goff's value was just that he's an asset that can possilb

Thomas Brown adds assistant head coach title - Rams finalize staff

Rams’ coaching staff features new faces, new roles

Opponents have raided Rams coach Sean McVay’s staff this year, hiring away a half-dozen star assistants.

It’s a headache McVay seems to have accepted as a price of success – and a chance to radically reshape his sideline roster.

The 2021 coaching staff the Rams announced Tuesday features seven new faces, five holdovers with expanded duties, and an array of freshly created job titles.

Among the promotions, running backs coach Thomas Brown got the additional title of assistant head coach, a role held by linebackers coach Joe Barry before he left to become the Packers’ defensive coordinator.

The Rams made official the hires of Kevin Carberry from Stanford to be offensive line coach; Marcus Dixon from Hampton University as assistant defensive line coach; Dwayne Stukes from the Jaguars as assistant special teams coach; and Nick Jones from the Falcons and Chris O’Hara from the Jaguars as offensive assistants.

Introduced earlier were new defensive coordinator Raheem Morris and special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis.

The first Rams staff made up entirely of coaches hired since McVay took over in 2017 reflects a growing diversity of backgrounds.

Dixon, 36, is known as a one-time NFL defensive end but perhaps more for a court case that began when he was in high school near Rome, Ga. He was convicted of misdemeanor statutory rap and aggravated child molestation, the cause célèbre attracting the attention of Oprah Winfrey and civil rights leaders. He was freed from prison after the Georgia Supreme Court overturned the conviction on the latter charge, but he lost a football scholarship to Vanderbilt, and played instead at Hampton.

McVay didn’t speak with reporters in unveiling the new staff but is expected to do so in the coming days.

With the Rams revealing Tuesday that special-teams assistant coach Tory Woodbury is no longer on the staff, eight assistants have left the team since its second-round exit from the playoffs. The most prominent is defensive coordinator Brandon Staley, hired by the Chargers as head coach. The NFL’s top-ranked defense also lost Barry and cornerbacks coach Aubrey Pleasant.

On the 19-man coaching staff, only McVay, offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell and wide receivers coach Eric Yarber have exactly the same job titles as last season.

In addition to Brown becoming assistant head coach, tight ends coach Wes Phillips is adding the title of pass game coordinator, replacing Shane Waldron, now the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator; former outside linebackers coach Chris Shula’s job is now called linebackers coach, covering his and Barry’s roles; former safeties coach Ejiro Evero now coach of the entire secondary as well as defensive pass game coordinator; and defensive line coach Eric Henderson is taking on the additional tag of defensive run game coordinator.

The defensive pass- and run-game coordinator titles are new. So are the titles of linebackers and secondary coach and assistant coach, which replace the old roles of inside and outside linebackers coaches and cornerbacks and safeties coaches.

I think some of these coaches fall into place. Not sure last season what Kromers job was exactly? I know Zac Robinson is no assistant QB coach. He is the QB coach at least on game day.
I also wonder what The Rams game day coaching booth will look like in 2021. NOT ONE POSTER could ANSWER what it looked like in 2020.
So anyone ?? Would be nice to know.
My observation as of NOW is Waldron & Kromer both moving on ONLY makes The Rams game day better imo.To many Cooks in the kitchen sort of speak.Kevin O”Connell gets to take on a BIGGER role & coaching experience with The Rams doesn’t mean as much.
