Apples and oranges too much of that type of analysis going on. Just look at the roster's projected starters. Look at their strengths and weaknesses. Look at Sean's scheme and how the players fit. Morris did more with less everywhere he's been. Now I completely understand his enthusiasm. He's got talent like he never had before, not just Donald and Ramsey, but Floyd, Robinson, Fuller, Ram, Williams, and the depth is there as well.
This team has what will be at the very least a top 10 offense and defense. In my personal opinion, they will finish top 5 on both sides of the ball. That's enough talent to win a Lombardi, as long as McVay and Morris don't F'it up, which I find hard to believe they will.
On offense they are two deep at QB, 3 deep at RB, 6 deep at WR, 3 deep at TE, then you have AD, Floyd, Lewis, Hollins, Reeder, Fuller, Rapp, Burgess, Ramsey, Williams, and Long on defense. That isn't including guys like J. Williams at DE, Hoecht at DT, and Gaines at DT. This roster is so stacked it's going to be hard for guys like Rochell, E. Jones, and the Browns to get on the field other than on STs.
Their OL looks like it could be pretty good. Whitworth is showing his age but is still a better-than-average LT. Frankly, it doesn't matter who is at Center because all three guys are clear upgrades to Blythe. Just like OG, where their options on Edwards, Evans, Shelton, and Brewer are all solid. If they keep Havenstein, they will have a good swing OT in Noteboom with good depth at all interior line positions. Also, the media portrays them as unproven, ignoring that they are no longer rookies, and have solid game experience. They were an ad hoc bunch last year but weren't a trainwreck. Far from it they were at the very least average and perhaps a bit better than average last year (I don't believe in PFF's grading system). That experience will make them better this year as will having Stafford at QB as well will improve their play. They have a far better OL coach this year in Carberry so their blocking execution should be far better.
This is a Super Bowl caliber roster if you simply take the time to really look at it putting the players in the context of the system both McVay and Morris will use them. IMO Morris and Carberry are the most heralded hires, who's potential impact simply isn't appreciated. Regardless of who the center is, there is talent enough on this OL to finish in the top 10 going against some pretty good competition. This is why I'm confident that the final offensive ranking will put it in the top 5. The D IMO will be a top 3 unit regardless of the scheme employed by Morris.
Morris' favored drafted picks show that he and McVay weren't satisfied with the run D last year. The Ram run defense ended up #4 but it's their early-down run defense that was the problem. That's why E. Jones and the Browns were drafted this year. It's a clear indication that Morris doesn't want to play run on the way to the QB, he wants to be stout at the POA on early downs and get the offense behind the sticks. At that point, Morris has the dogs to unleash. It will be interesting if Morris rotates AD off on first downs this year to save him for when it's most important. This year he has Hoecht and Gaines he can use on early downs. Next year they can hope to have either of the Browns in rotation with Earnest most likely to be slotted as a 3T while Bobby can work on his technique to play NT in rotation or as a long-term option to Robinson which I think is the real reason he was drafted. Having Hoecht and Gaines now makes SJD expendable this year and perhaps Robinson next year or in 2023.
