A Huge Shout out to.......

The Cincinnati Bengals and their fans!!
While watching the horror of last night unfold with Damar Hamlin, I was struck by how courteous and respectful the Bengal fans were. Seems like just about everybody was praying and holding hands in quiet hope that Damar would be fine.
Even after the game was suspended the crowd filed out of the stadium in an orderly fashion with no booing or cat calls or any disturbances that I saw.
They all seemed to be focused on the situation with a reverential respect for a fallen young man and his family. One Bengal fan was holding up a sign asking all to pray for Damar and later I saw reports of fans from both the Bills and Bengals assembling at the hospital to hold a vigil for him.
I also saw Buffalo fans and Cincy fans coming together to pray and support one another in this very trying time.

In the meantime I would like to encourage all my Rams brothers to continue to pray for Damar Hamlin and his family and believe that soon he will recover and walk out of that hospital on his own.
In closing I would like to thank the Bengal fans for their sportsmanship last night. Thanks for keeping it classy, Cincinnati!!!

It was a shining light in an otherwise very dark night...

Rams 2020 Draft class

I think they just need to get guys well and hope they stay that way. IMO this is a huge red flag regarding their conditioning staff. This is a Super Bowl caliber roster as is. An infusion of a bunch of rookies IMO will be a step back not a step forward. They are IMO one key acquisition away from being able to make a run this coming season. Burns or Buckner would put them over the top if they also dump Morris and hire an aggressive DC who will know how to use his talent. Morris has proven he doesn't know his guys muchless how to use them.

Cotton Bowl & Rose Bowl

Yeah, I didn't remember. I started to write 15, then I thought, no that's too much!!! Lincoln Riley better get some defensive players for next year or a new DC. If he does, they are going to be hard to beat.
Yeah - I feel that being his first year and Haley being such a shit recruiter that it would be a year or two before Riley could get his team up to speed.

A couple of transfers really helped the offensive side. And I see good things on that side of the ball in the future.

I hope he stresses on recruiting the defensive side and OL in the next few years with a couple of key signings on WR and RB to keep those positions at their high level.

Goff Question

I am not going to re-visit the nonsensical comparison of Goff vs Stafford because both are good QBs. Stafford is an elite QB who has his warts. Goff is a high tier two QB who is better than most care to perceive him as being.

Both are system QBs, and both are successful when played within the confines of their respective systems. All I will say is that Goff is blossoming in Detroit. He has a HC who trusts him. I've watched a number of Detroit games. It is common to see Goff change the play at the LOS, something he was not able to do under McVay as a consequence his INTs are way down ever since he's been in Detroit. IMO Mayfield and Goff are comparable in terms of their respective talents. Mayfield is earning McVay's trust because he's a scheme fit in ways Goff wasn't.

Baker is a high tier two QB as is Jared. Both are progression read type of QBs. If you want to compare apples to apples then compare Goff and Baker. Goff showed in 2018 he's capable of leading a team to the Super Bowl. So the question of whether can Mayfield do likewise is the question we should be asking. IMO the answer is yes Baker is as much of a Super Bowl caliber talent as Jared and the way the Ram roster is loaded with talent there is no reason to think Mayfield isn't good enough to be a Super Bowl winner.

The wildcard with the Rams is the defense. For how much talent there is on the defense, they are being sabotaged by poor coaching. With AD, Wagner, and Ramsey, 3 HOF caliber players, one on each level this defense should be a top 5 unit but it's nowhere near that. Raheem has shown he can play an aggressive style when he wants to, but he refuses to do so in most games.

If the Rams are serious about another SB run they need a new DC. One who will take the time to know his players in terms of talent. The emergence of Hoecht and Durant is an indictment of Morris. He continued to play Lewis and Kendrick despite having better players in Hoecht, Durant, and Rochell. Why did it take so long for him to see it? Because of his good enough attitude that's why.

Goff was doomed the day McVay was hired. He wasn't McVay's choice for a QB. Baker Mayfield is clearly McVay's choice as was Matt Stafford. In all likelihood, Stafford has one more season as the Rams QB. Baker will be his understudy and the eventual starter this coming season. From McVay's comments, Mayfield is the QB he wants as he has the arm talent, and the intelligence to grasp McVay's offense and play within it in ways even Stafford doesn't.

I think McVay's offense under Baker will be primarily a mid-range pass attack with occasional deep strikes. Baker has the accuracy to hit a receiver in stride and turn a 15-20 yard pass into a 40 yd play. If the deep strike is there then Baker will be expected to take the shot as he did with Jefferson in the last play of the Raider game. That showed me something that wasn't part of Baker's game in Cleveland. He could read that his number 1 read was going to break open. That is exactly how McVay wants his offense to function. If the deep shot is there from his early read then take the shot, if not focus upon the mid-range routes.

Akers is making his case to be the #1 RB and with Williams they have a very good #2. IMO they will draft or sign a FA #3 RB. Mayfield played well enough to win 2 regular season games with backup WRs and OL. IMO that will be good enough for McVay. Both Goff and Stafford IMO would have struggled to do likewise under those circumstances.

That's why I for one feel confident in a Mayfield led offense going forward. If he can play this good with a backup OL and WRs then imagine how good he can be with a good OL, Kupp and Robinson back. I think Mayfield will spread the ball around moreso than Stafford who has Kupp tunnel vision. We could see the return of the 2018 type of offense under Mayfield.

Kurt Warner - Baker's Cooking in LA

I guess KW missed the Chargers game. Yes he is better than the backups we got and he can probably with a better team around him hold the fort down if Stafford gets injured for 3-6 games, but he is not the answer long-term. Just watching him he is really a pocket QB with sort of legs. He doesn't do a good job leading wrs,! and his deep ball isn't good. Ok he has been in the system only a minute I get it, but he will not be here next year because he views himself a nfl starter not a backup especially in his prime 5 years from now sure.

Btw there are a bunch of QB needy teams, Houston, tenn, wash, Indy, Raiders, TB, NO, ATL maybe the Giants not sold on Jones, maybe Seattle, maybe Miami, maybe the Jets, maybe NE and maybe longshot Carolina again maybe not but it still means their potentially an opening that will need a QB to be filled. Only 2 guys coming out of college and neither look like a Herbert to me coming out. Hardly any FAs maybe Lamar but minimally he will be franchised, Brady 46, Rodgers maybe but cost is prohibitive and dead money seems unrealistic to trade him.

So to me with a good showing against Seattle in Seattle next week may cement him as at least a potential candidate.
If he's smart he will stay as a back up until Staff retires. None of the teams you mentioned seem like a good fit for Mayfield, and he'd be going into a franchise that is rebuilding. He's been there done that twice. He's with a coach that likes him and can actually make a game plan to his strengths. So it's either lose a couple years sitting behind Staff, or possibly lose your career like he almost did in Carolina. No brainer to me.

As for his throwing ability, he made some pretty damn good throws yesterday considering he was running for most of it. Hell He's spread the ball around more than Stafford ever did last season. And to back ups, when the excuse for Staff last season for not spreading the ball around was "he hasn't had time with those receivers". So if we are going to judge Staff and Mayfield evenly, I think Mayfield deserves to at least get a little more credit with his circumstances.

GAME DAY GDT - Rams at Chargers

I didn’t like you implying that people here were dumb enough not to realize that you need good run blocking for a runningback to succeed. Most posters here are well informed. It’s the smartest group of Rams fans I’ve found on the web.

Nobody wanted to get rid of Akers before McBay said he needs to be more urgent and Jourdan Rodrigue reported his lack of preseason practice being suspect.
I could see how someone might take what I posted as an insult and that I'm calling them dumb after rereading it. For that I do apologize.

DL Larrell Murchison

The Bobby Brown mystery continues.

As much as I love Gaines.. I feel like he's a guy who can be approximated by two players.. Copeland is good at penetrating, for example... But they need a guy like Robinson who is just a wall when it comes to the run.
Mcvay said he had a bad ankle & Gaines was hurt.
—Bobby Briwn does not play hard.A Robinson won’t let him get away with that, but A’Rob goes which I think he will, won’t be good enough. Then again AD99 will get after guys a little.

My 2023 Rams UFA Re-Sign Priority List

@payote75 I read an article the other day that said with the YouTube contact the cap is expected to increase about 78 million in the next 7 years. The cap isn't going to jump up a lot in any year. They've been saying it would for 5+ years now and it never does. The cap jumping by 20 million is just like the Cardinals being a super bowl contender. It's always "real soon" but never real.

They just said the other day that it's already increasing by 10 million at least this year so we will have to wait. Also not concerned there are ways to open up to 80-90 million so not concerned.

GAME DAY Week 17 - The Early Games

Panthers unraveled. Eagles give 9ers a path to home field.
Yup. Whiners have the three way tiebreaker if they end up 13-4 with the Vikings and Cowboys. I'm going to assume the whiners win out. Raiders have zero chance today if Carr is sitting. Eagles have to beat the Giants to secure home field. If the Vikings win out they do no worse than number two. Could take the top spot if the Eagles lose next week. I'm definitely rooting for the Vikings today. Sorry Packfan18.
