Report: Eagles may cut ties with C Jason Kelce

Depends on how you define 'blow it up' imo. McVay will have a good amount of CAP space to work with along with something like 8 draft picks if the Comp's go according to plan. I'd think he'd want to put his 'imprint' on the team as quickly as possible, if for no other reason than to escape a past losing culture, although more so to start adding those players he feels will best fit his and Wade's scheme. I'm not sure how many changes quantify a 'blow up', but i'm expecting several myself. jmo.

But But we mortgaged our future for Jared Goff, we have no draft picks in the 2017 draft....

OC Poll ...

The best option and fit for the Rams would be Callahan, no question, because he'd have our OL whipped into shape pretty quickly. Rumors still persist about him, but I agree it's unlikely and the Skins would be stupid to let him go.

It will probably be a run game expert, but doesn't need to be. The OL coach can still perform those duties under an OC who compiles and schemes under McVay. And I think a guy like Faulk would be fine as a RB coach, again provided he actually wants to do it which I doubt. Same deal with Manning for that matter, and the QB coach position, and in his case he doesn't have a cushy analyst job so there's probably a greater chance he gets into coaching than Marshall does.

Either way McVay gives you a little leeway on the offensive side of the ball. But IMO what he's going to look for is a coach who will crunch the F out of the tape, someone hungry like he was who will lessen that gameplan burden just a little.

ESPN’s Chris Berman to retire(sort of)

Boomer is in status, if not style, the Vin Scully of cable television and of the NFL.

No, Bill. No, that’s grossly inaccurate. Every Vin Scully telecast was a damn snowflake: a master class in wit, storytelling, and understated delivery. By contrast, I could tune into Berman at any point in history and KNOW that, at some point, he would blare out THAHHHH RAIDEEHHHSSSSBURPFARTSQUISH. The set list was as reliable as a Men Without Hats reunion concert.

I COULDN'T AGREE MORE.

That sacrilege regarding Vin Scully nearly made me violently ill. The idea that Captain Catchphrase could EVER match the eloquence of Vin Scully...when whether he was broadcasting baseball, boxing, football or the Olympics, Vin Scully combined poetry and prose in a way that almost made you want to turn off the tv because the images he invoked were so detailed, yet saturated with color and emotion that the simple visuals seemed not to do the "picture" justice.

His folksy, yet poignant introduction to a telecast of Dodger Baseball always reminded me of Beethoven's Sixth, the Pastoral, especially the first movement.

So really, saying that "Boomer" was equivalent to Vin Scully is like saying that the ash tray you made in 7th grade art class is equivalent to Michelangelo's David.

Peek into what McVays Offense Will Look Like

The more and more I think about it, I wouldn't be suprised if there is a drastic change like there was in 1998 Rams (4-12) to 1999 GSOT Ram's (13-3). You know what they say... HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF. We already coming from a 4-12 season (same as 1998) ;).

We just need wide receivers and an average offensive o-line. Doesn't even have to be good, just average. I can picture it now if we get both Desean Jackson and Garcon.

Our wide receivers: DJax, Garcon, Pharoh Cooper, Tavon Austin, Mike Thomas, and Nelson Spruce! :fuelfire:

There ... fixed that for ya ;)

NFC Divisional Playoffs: Green Bay @ Dallas GDT

http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/...-packers-caused-dallas-fans-lose-minds-011617

Any time a team’s season hinges on one play, there are bound to be some crazed fans who can’t control the emotions that pour out of them. And when you’re dealing with the Dallas Cowboys, there are certainly plenty of crazed fans to go around.

Take this guy. He did he his best to perform some wizardry and jinx Crosby on the final kick — and thought for a brief moment that he successfully pulled it off — but, in the end, he could do nothing but fall into his couch in despair. (Warning: explicit language.)

There’s this mature, composed individual who made the very rational decision to destroy a very large TV after the final whistle. (Warning: explicit language.)

But my favorite reaction comes from this Cowboys fan, who was very disappointed in the final result but, to his credit, got over it very, very quickly.

Guide to beating Rams starts with Jared Goff

Here is another one for anyone interested.

Jared Goff’s debut for Rams highlights problems in his game and offense as a whole

http://nflbreakdowns.com/jared-goff-debut-film-video-breakdown-highlights-rams-dolphins-inaccuracy/

LA Rams quarterback Jared Goff, the number one overall pick in April over Carson Wentz and many others, made his first official start on a rainy Sunday versus the Miami Dolphins. The highly-anticipated debut was already on shaky ground as many questioned how a player taken that high couldn’t sniff the field for 10 weeks as his team fell below .500 largely due to inefficient play at quarterback. By the time the game was over, the shaking only got worse rather than being subsided.

This was an ugly game for both sides offensively, but the Rams drives stalled due to overly conservative play calling and a lack of a downfield attack. LA converted just two of their 13 third down attempts while only gaining 12 total first downs. The Dolphins, on the other hand, didn’t score until the fourth quarter, managing two late touchdowns to win the game with under a minute left.

For his part, Goff completed 17-of-31 passes for only 134 yards. Often as former starter Case Keenum would do, Goff didn’t manage a score but unlike Keenum didn’t turn the ball over and was sacked just once.

In order to handle the wet conditions and Miami’s superior defensive line, the Rams turned to a quick passing game where all but four of Goff’s passes went for under 20 yards. By my tracking, 19 of Goff’s other 27 passes traveled less than six yards beyond the line of scrimmage, with the right side being Goff’s preferred throwing direction.

In general, Goff made the correct reads, but it was his accuracy that held LA back as he kept missing his receivers. (For once, maybe it wasn’t Tavon Austin’s fault.)

With 9:44 remaining in the third, Goff is in shotgun on 2nd and 10. Goff recognizes that his running back (30) Todd Gurley has a one-on-one match-up with a linebacker. Since Gurley is running an angle route versus (42) Spencer Paysinger’s outside leverage, Goff makes the correct decision to target him.

Goff holds onto the ball way too long throwing with zero anticipation. This allows (97) Jordan Phillips time to penetrate between the left guard and the center forcing Goff to backfoot the pass inaccurately at his target. This causes the ball to sail behind him.

All of this could have been avoided if Goff just threw the pass a second earlier right as Gurley was about to break across the middle of the field.

On the next play, Goff does an excellent job avoiding the pressure from the left edge scrambling back to his right. While on the run, he finds his tight end (88) Lance Kendricks in the flat. Unfortunately, he throws the pass inaccurately: behind and too low for Kendricks to bring it in.

These were two back-to-back negative plays by Goff that forced the Rams to punt in good field position.

While his accuracy was spotty, Goff did a great job avoiding pressure and escaping the pocket. With 2:30 left in the third quarter, Goff recognizes quickly that his offensive line didn’t pick up the interior stunt by (50) Andre Branch, so he scrambles through the offensive line for a short pickup.

Although this scramble didn’t pick up the first down, it kept LA within field goal range, allowing Greg Zuerlein to make a 46-yard kick for the 10-0 lead.

If there wasn’t immediate pressure, there is a very good chance Goff would have seen the defensive back opposite of (18) Kenny Britt at the bottom of the screen slip in coverage. This would have been a walk-in touchdown for Britt, but the pressure forces Goff to react.

Even when Goff made a good play, like on this excellent 10-yard scramble below, it was called back for an idiotic penalty by left tackle (73) Greg Robinson. Watch closely as he performs an illegal block in the back on (47) Kiko Alonso. If I were Goff, I would have been furious since Alonso was not even in range to make a play anyways.

While the pressure and the playcalling were definitely a large reason why the offense struggled, Goff did not take advantage of opportunities when he had a chance.

For instance, the Dolphins sent a three-man rush while dropping eight in coverage on this play. Goff has plenty of time in the pocket to go through his reads, scan the field, and extend the play, but he panics dumping the ball to his checkdown in the flat for a three-yard loss.

Looking at the general themes of the game, Los Angeles desperately needs better wide receivers. (Dang it, Tavon Austin!) They struggled to gain separation against the Miami’s defensive backs. In this play, not a single one of the receivers get off the line cleanly. Goff trusted that (83) Brian Quick would beat his defender inside, but his release off the line of scrimmage is awful, while Goff’s pass was off-target as well.

With over $42 million in cap space in 2017, a player like Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey would be very beneficial to the team and could give Goff a legitimate receiver. Austin is great for gadget plays and as a slot receiver, but four years in the NFL he hasn’t broken 500 yards receiving in any season after being drafted eighth overall in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Due to the Rams’ trade with the Tennessee Titans to land Goff, they won’t pick until the second round in the draft. It’s possible that Clemson wide receiver Mike Williams or Courtland Sutton from Southern Methodist University could last until then. Either of them could give LA a legitimate threat on the outside for Goff to develop with.

After losing to the Rams in Week 2, the Seattle Seahawks won’t face them again until Week 15. That battle was a purely defensive one but things could be very different in the rematch; With Seattle’s revived offense, the Seahawks have a much better chance the second time around for the victory even though LA has won four of the last five meetings in the series.

Will this next one feature Russell Wilson vs Goff, and will he be able to improve his accuracy and allow Jeff Fisher to open the playbook for him? We’ll soon find out.

Steven A Smith: At 30 years of age, is Sean McVay really capable of leading the Rams

Here's what I don't understand. From EVERY SINGLE former player: "this guy is amazing. He doesn't just know everything about the offense, but WHY. He helps ME get better which helps the offense get better and it feels like he's talking directly to ME, even in a crowded room."

Now... did ANYONE here is AGE brought up in that?

Cuz, I sure as crap didn't. And in the NFL, think about how valuable a coach is who takes the path that success lies in building up each player to their fullest potential... That means that even AFTER he's done with McVay, his career will be MUCH further enriched because of a better contract and FA.

It's not just a matter of "guys in a system" because guys who break down film can see guys actually doing the little things that the better players do as a function of paying attention to detail which is a function of being a good player AND of having good coaching.

Now...NORMALLY, this takes many years to cultivate.

However, WE Rams fans are about to be treated to a coaching prodigy.

I'm excited. NOT because the talking heads have anything to say about it, but because of what current and former players and current and former coaches have to say about him, his work ethic, his communication skills, his attention to detail...and his results.

I could understand the concerns if he was simply a creation of media hype.

But what's funny is that he's SO DAMNED GOOD that as noted on the MMQB, one of their guys called it that he'd be a HC last year. And in some ways, his hype has been tamped down BECAUSE of his age.

I mean, if he was even a DAY over 35, every NFL franchise with an opening and maybe the Saints would have spread their legs without caring for their reputation for him. Granted, that's crass and I'm sorry, but...it pretty much describes pretty accurately how wantonly all the teams would have pursued him.

No HC candidate since I've been paying attention to such things has come in with this level of positives and such a lack of negatives. Now...we'll see how it plays out.

But...man. The idea that older players won't buy in when it's been PLAYERS who are singing his praises the loudest? What???

Oh and for the Kyle Shanahan holdouts... now word is coming out that he's been coming off as "arrogant" in interviews. Not good. You think the Rams hadn't at least reached out to teams who'd already interviewed him?

Even if some don't want to believe...trust me and suspend your disbelief.

You're about to really, really enjoy this movie...

McVay’s Primary Job Making Goff Not a Goof!

This is such a nonsense criticism. What football player or coach actually answers any questions with their true feelings?

Just thought that Goff would provide some insight as to why he and McVay hit it off, but I get it, that's fine, he decided to just say what he always says, whether he's responded about a coaching hire or a sunset or his first start in the NFL.

How you like the Matt Ryan comparisons now?

Jones, Sanu, Gabriel, Freeman, Coleman...

I could play QB for the Falcons and at least score a TD. Freeman and Coleman are one of the best RB duos in the NFL. And Julio Jones... There's elite, then there's Julio.

Yep, Julio has made elite defences look stupid many a time. Sanu's no slouch either and Gabriel is being used correctly as that fast lil' gadget player - it's not rocket science really.

But I've always liked Ryan and have always championed him, just because he's not flash doesn't mean he isnt a great QB. The other underrated QB in my mind is Alex Smith.

Could Boras remain our OC?

He had an opportunity after fisher was removed to separate himself from the miserable offense we had witnessed up until that point. And it was worse. Play calling got more conservative. Sure it's Fishers fault for putting Boras in a spot that he was completely unqualified for and inept at. But it doesn't excuse it either.

I think we can agree that he's a TE coach.

:peace:

Who are the FAs we need in your opinion?

Your argument illuminates the stupidity of choosing Tru over Jenks. For health alone they should have chosen Jackrabbit. But Tru was the guy they kept, he's long and very well designed for press, and I don't think playing so many off looks did him any favors. Wade will line him up on that wideout, in his face, with safeties over the top for the most part. .
I would give Claiborne a 1 year deal before I signed Tru to a ridiculous deal. I would be in favor of a 1 year deal with Tru long as its not over 10 mill
