1999 Rams 16th of 57

Hopkins on that block for the 4th down conversion for Kupp was legendary!
View attachment 64278
Yeah, I'm not sure that Hopkins gets enough credit for that block. Some fail to realize that it was a very good DE named Sam Hubbard that he stoned to allow Kupp to get the first down.
I was hoping Brycen would use his Super Bowl performance to spring board into a larger role with the Rams, but, alas, it didn't happen

My idea of what Rams should do in the offseason

I don't see the Rams short-changing Shelton. They gave him a "prove it" contract and he did. They will honor it by giving him Brian Allen type money.
Entirely possible. Could see that one going either way and it might come down to Shelton's demands. Either way I think the bigger question here is whether they can lock down that RG job. If they can ink Dotson they have a ton of room for error at center. And they have the picks they need in that third round range to go get one if they need to.

Obviously the more holes they can prevent or fill prior to the draft the better. So I'd stop short of saying I'm sure they'll draft a center. But I think a window to draft a center is right now if they get Dotson signed. Because at that point they have strong OGs to protect him (many require some time to beef up) and they have a QB who can help train him on pre-snap reads. Once again look up Ragnow's comments on Stafford in his own formative period. And lastly because if we do flip to a young QB in say 2025 or 2026 then the pivot will be in place and trained up to help him out with those reads.

GAME DAY NFC Championship - Lions at 49’ers

The whiners were also damn lucky in this game. In the second half on a 3rd and 4 (I think), purdy rolls to the left, throws across his body and lofts up a wounded duck into the middle of the field and #15 makes a remarkable grab to make a first down. That pass should have been picked or incomplete but once again, the whiners lucked out.

Actually, the ball went to the exact receiver purdy was aiming at. The wr made a great play and caught the ball. On the other side Reynolds dropped two balls on the money. That's the difference between winning and losing.

.

Tomlin Props

Yeah I think the Arthur Smith hiring was a windfall for Pittsburgh. Smith's a good OC. Plus once again when you get a coordinator fresh off a HC failing they tend to be pissed off and often in a great place to excel in that job.

Either way the offensive and defensive gameplanning combo for them will be very strong in 2024. Comes down to whether Pickett can find his nutsack in the pocket I think.

How Do You Like Dan Campbell Now?

Analytics have their place but people aren't robots. They don't have to stick to the data. If it was a regular season game then its not a big deal. But that was not only their last game. It was their shot at a Super Bowl. A field goal helps kill the Niners momentum. It changes their game plan the rest of the way. No field goals are sure things but they had no trouble letting the kicker try an even longer field goal against the Rams. If he missed it then they Lions would have lost by two points.

How Many HOF QB's Are Still Active in the NFL?

The question was QBs all retiring today. RG3 had a great rookie season just like CJ did.

Well that list is really low to meet those quals.

Derek Carr is a longevity guy but little success.

Jalen Hurts, Jared Goff, Joe Burrow...Super Bowl losers but only 1 has longevity and peaked 5 years ago.

Josh Allen does meet clutch factor too.

Pretty high bar when only 4 meet those. HoF isn't just having SB ring. It's how a single player was so different from the norm to the point where he became a guy people try to find the next version of or was just so damn good. I.e., Dan Marino and in the WR world Randy Moss both never won Bowls.

Josh Allen = stud. Arm, running, body built like a tank.

CJ is in based on historic rookie #s. He's already surpassed so many other QBs.
You are misunderstanding what I am saying. Any normal HOF candidate has ALL four of these qualities/achievements. Having just one or two of them normally isn't enough to make the HOF, with an exception of a Dan Marino as you said.
I think you are dead wrong on Stroud. If he was injured this offseason and never played football again, there is no way in hell he becomes a Hall of Famer.
As for the "It"/clutch factor in regard to Allen, he has never shown it when it matters: being responsible for getting to and winning a Super Bowl. lets be clear, I like both QB's, but one needs more successful years and the other needs a Super Bowl win. I don't think our beloved Capt Kurt Warner would have become of HOFer without the Super Bowl win in 1999 even though he had a really eventful career otherwise.

draft picks by position

WR is not an immediate need if Kupp stays healthy. This is a very good WR class, though, so I’d consider a “luxury pick” if the right guy falls.

OT comes down to whether we think the No. 19 pick could yield a clear upgrade over Jackson.

Not sure what your point is on CB. I said its a priority for Rounds 1-3.

The rest of your comments likewise don't seem to be addressing anything I said.
With a head coach/OC like McVay, WR is ALWAYS a need!!! Demarcus Robinson signs, not so much. We have Kupp who's missed 20% of the games over his 7 year career. And I don't think he was fully healthy all season. That ain't good. We have Puka. We have Atwell. We have Skowronek. We NEED another WR. Probably 2......another rookie and a vet signing.....if we don't sign Robinson. If we do, just a rookie will do.

Ironically, CB is ALWAYS a need too. It's a passing league. You need to stop the pass. I have a higher opinion of Kendricks than most but what do I know? Durant is good. Tomlinson? Haven't seen him enough but second year coming. Could be a big jump. We need to draft a CB and sign a vet. Same as WR.

I think we need another RB too. And a TE. Allen looks good. Higbee is injured and will be on PUP. Long? He's a blocking TE. We need another receiving TE. If he can block too, all the better. TE is a need.

OL? Sure. Always a need.
Edge is a huge need. (Passing league)
I'd like another ILB too.
QB? Sign Wentz. Draft one next year. Or take one lower this year.

If I were to list the positions of need from highest to lowest, I'd say:

Edge
WR
CB
OL
TE
RB
ILB
S
QB
DT
PK

JMHO.

Jim Harbaugh HC, to the LA Chargers

Thats my opinion and I am sticking by it. Vermiel was pals with Georgia, strike one. He coddled horrible person L Phillips. You can call it what you to and make your excuses for him running his players into the ground to the point of mutiny. He would blabber all the time about how hard June Henley "tried" in practice to the point where he actually started significant games when he should have been out of the NFL.
I could predict most of his plays, awful play caller. He cried at the drop of a hat.
Nice man, not a good coach. Martz got a Super Bowl stolen from him. What did he ever win in KC ?
My memory ? So I have taken a blank map of the earth and filled in every single country on it. my memory is not a issue.
You and I not having the same opinion apparently is, to you.
Seriously? What are you supposed to be enemies with the owner the minute she hires you? Think about what your saying and thinking with a little common sense. Obviously you have some biased views that are immovable without any other idea or pieces of evidence that would suggest the contrary.

Listening to your gripes and whatever else is exactly the contrary what his players at all three franchises he was HC at stated.

Almost feels like their is resentment that he won that Super Bowl so you can be " absolutely right"

This is part of the underappreciated part from STL is no more of the scum of the underbelly from the likes of the Post Dispatch mindset.

1950 Rams 43rd most most influential team

43. 1950 Los Angeles Rams

Record: 9–3, lost NFL championship game

Coach: Joe Stydahar
Hall of Famers: Joe Stydahar (HC), Tom Fears (WR), Elroy “Crazylegs” Hirsch (WR), Bob Waterfield (QB), Norm Van Brocklin (QB)

Why they mattered:

In 1940, the Eagles became the first team in NFL history to throw the ball more than they ran it. The result was a 1–10 season. Ten years later, the Rams also went to the air on more than half of their plays, and became the first team in league history to enjoy a winning record by doing so.
Los Angeles went 9–3 and for the second consecutive year won the Western Conference. In the title game, the Rams visited the Browns in Cleveland’s first year as an NFL squad following the merger from the AAFC. Cleveland won, 30–28, on a field goal with 28 seconds remaining by future Hall of Fame Lou Groza.
Still, Los Angeles’s impact on the game is undeniable. The Rams featured a pair of Canton-bound flankers in Fears and Hirsch, who in 1950 combined for 14 receiving touchdowns. In one five-week stretch, Los Angeles averaged 50.2 points per game, including consecutive wins over the Colts and Lions where the Rams scored 70 and 65 points, respectively.
In 1951, the Rams rode a similar roster to a third consecutive NFL title game, this time defeating the Browns for their first championship on the West Coast.

Panel quote:

“Clark Shaughnessy developed the Rams’ offense in 1948 and ’49, but he was gone in ’50 due to squabbles with ownership and other coaches. Line coach and former NFL player Joe Stydahar took over and simply let nature take its course. [The Rams] became the top offense in the history of the NFL to that point and remain one of the best to this day—known as the “Point-a-Minute Offense.” In fact, their 38.8 points per game average is still first in NFL history edging teams such as the 2013 Broncos and ’07 Patriots.” —John Turney, NFL historian; writer, Pro Football Journal

What Championship Sunday Told Me About Our Rams…

There is a theory I read somewhere that says that a team needs 6 elite players to win a Championship.

We have 3, maybe four.

So if we are going to utilize AD-Stafford-Kupp to their fullest, we need to add another 3. Preferably at the most premium positions in the sport outside of QB (i.e., LT, Edge and CB). And these 3 new additions have to produce in their first year with us.

May the force be with Snead this offseason.
I'd switch out Puka with Kupp there, at this point.
Do Oline guys count? I think Dotson was up there this season.

But, yeah... a couple more difference makers is what they need, for sure.

River's Final 2024 Pre-Free Agency Mock ...

I have to admit, I'd really be disappointed in that draft.

The idea of trading 2025 draft selections would be disappointing. And especially if it were for Sanders. I'd be shocked if Powers-Johnson got out of the 2nd round. Not sure he'll make it out of the 1st round.

The Brian Burns or Josh Ushe & CB Jaylon Johnson or Jeff Okudah or their very NEAR EQUIVALENTS is a bit confusing unless you are just focused solely on position and not player quality. From what I understand, Okudah has been a bust to date.

Such a surprise ...

Sanders has been regarded by many as the #2 TE in this class, and trading up for him as Long enters his 'contract' year and Higbee's health status appearing more of a concern than ever. With two 3'rd round draft picks next year, I'm willing to make such a move.

As for Powers-Johnson, him being all over the place by draft pundits makes his final placement difficult, but I've also traded up in an attempt to secure him.

Okudah would need to come with a 1 year 'prove it' contract. His claim to rehabbing a decent future is showing he can play without being an injury liability, ... he's only 24 years old, so pass a tough physical and come in as about half the CAP cost as Jaylon Johnson.
