Per reports Chancellor done for the year

That secondary keeps getting thinner, I still expect a game plan involving the running game to beat them though. As long as Earl Thomas is on the field, Goff needs to be careful with his throws. Hopefully it doesn’t involve a game with 40+ pass attempts
I doubt we would throw 40 times, but it would be No-Big-Deal they are missing 2/3's of there Legion of Boob's!(y);):D

Here's a look at our future....

When McVay was hired, I thought about how young he was but I realized that he is from a football family and that family had a lot of success. I believe McVay's got the makings that could lead to the Rams becoming somewhat of a football dynasty. He seems to be so creative and dynamic on offense and he allows Wade Phillips to run his defense. If we can continue to draft well with what is a very young team, the Rams "window of opportunity" to win a superbowl will be there for many years. I'm really hopeful and can see that our future is bright.

Good luck to Jeff Fisher but thank goodness he's not the Rams coach anymore.

Found Keys

Having watched, read, and listened to hours of analysis on the Ram/Saints game, there are factors I believe have been lost in the shuffle. Here are mine...

Havenstein v Jordan. Two weeks ago, Clowney dominated Big Rob and McVay was slow to adjust. Even on the pivotal bomb to Woods, Rob had to get away with holding to prevent a strip/sack/safety or defensive TD. Enter Cam Jordan who is being snubbed for the Pro Bowl and needs to make a statement. Personally, I don’t want to see that one on one matchup at all...even though I appreciate Hav’s very good play this year.

UM...nailed it. Then again, he beat Whitworth too. Jordan is like Donald, Clowney, Watt, and Campbell...you single them and your play is likely wrecked.

Listen to Kromer. Sean McVay made his bones around a scheme that has evolved from the Shanahan zone running with WCO passing concepts. Wisely, McVay hired an accomplished power running line coach to integrate variety to the attack. It would seem the marriage is going well but here’s to hoping Kromer’s influence takes a bigger role. If New Orleans has to adjust their defense to account for power running (with help from the secondary) their second string corners will be exposed big time and our explosive plays will come in bunches.

I was sooooo wrong. McVay attacked their corners to get the lead and stuck with mostly zone blocking and misdirection in the second half. Hey, they won so Sean was right. Still, I want to see more power running plays. Maybe he’s saving it for another game.

Where’s Brockers? The force of the Saints running game is up the gut where Westbrooks is too light to hold up and Ogletree isn’t the thumper to limit the damage and Barron isn’t cast to be much help either. I believe THIS WEEK, Brockers needs to man the middle on early downs and switch to his 5 tech DE on obvious passing downs. If not, Max zinger will make me return to the days when I screamed for the Rams to acquire either Alex Mack or Rodney Hudson when they came available. (That’s not to say I’m unhappy w Sully).

Yeah, it was a traditional set on the Kamara long run...but did anyone else notice both Donald and Brockers rotate to the nose? More work by Fox and very few snaps by Westbrooks. Wade took my suggestion and expanded it way beyond my thinking. Kudos

The Reynolds/Thomas debate starts here once again. With Woods out and others getting his game reps ... this is the game where we see McVay’s true evaluation of these guys. All we really need to do is count reps and targets (along with types of routes run). My belief? I think he trusts neither very much so Tavon, Pharoh, and Everett will see the action we’ve been hoping from these two. Personally, I want to see what they can do.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner...Reynolds is McVay’s choice over Thomas and even the other options to fill Woods’ shoes.

Finally, does McVay keep Goff in safe mode and stay the course (limit turnovers at all costs) or do we start to see him take more chances as he opens the offense a bit? If it’s a Goff/Brees shootout, does Jared get the green light to fire at will? I kinda wanna see that happen (but only if we win).

Wish granted. Goff was given the green light and he out gunned Brees

Just for grins and giggles...

I may be wrong on this. But wasn't the stories out there before the Super Bowl that the Rams had Shanahan as the first choice? Somehow, the football gods prevented him from the Rams interview because he was snowed-in in New England preparing against the Patriots. And as we know the rest, McVay was the second option for the interview and got hired on the spot.

Just think, had Shanahan came to L.A. for the interview and all the media pundits and prognisticators saying Shanahan came from great football family and he's a natural hire for the offensive-challenged LA Rams, that the hire would have been a slam dunk, can you imagine what the outcome would have been? Would the Rams be competitive? Yikes!

Jared Goff vs Vikings (Analysis) ~Matt Waldman

Never understood the "favorite player can do no wrong" syndrome.

Some fans will only see the bad .. especially if their favourite is on the pine ... or cut pre season .. so they have to dog on their guys replacement to justify their guy is still a “beast“

Some posters have their favorites of course,

you're willing to give him time to see him develop

I also think Tavon is done personally he has had what 4-5 years

To think he's not special because ten games in to season 2 he's still not showing an ability to catch the ball?

the hypocrisy comes when people give players like brain Quick 5 years to develop

I've said it before and I'll say it again... I don't play favorites when it come to Rams players... they are all treated equally by me.

And, by equal, I do my best to give them a minimum of 3 years to prove themselves. Three years is pretty much the baseline that is most widely accepted and it seems like a reasonable amount of time to me.

In a perfect world, we refrain from making any sweeping judgements on a player until he either flames out before three years... or make it the three years and you can usually tell what you have.

So, I have an opinion on Austin and I think it's fair... he's not very productive for a 4+ year player.

The others being bantered about on any given Monday? (Goff, Higbee, Gurley, Kupp, etc. etc.) I'll wait until year three so see what we have.

Saw 1st half again + Case to Jags next year

Case would also be a good fit for any New York Team ( The Bill's-Jets-Giants) or the Viqueen's could just Keep Case and Trade Bridgewater! LOL

The way Keenum is playing, I think he's securing his place at Minnesota - and the guy definitely deserves it. I can see them signing him long term and trading Teddy, and cutting Bradford (I think his body needs him to retire!). IMO, Bridgewater has never played as well as Keenum is right now, at best he was Mr inconsistent, would you trade your hot-hand QB for a guy that's coming off injury and is still a bit of an unknown quantity? I know I wouldn't if i was the HC/GM. As you said, the NY teams are in need of QB help, or they could always follow your lead in the ROD draft @DaveFan'51 and trade with NO for a backup for the ageing Brees...

A word about Sammy Watkins...

I've seen enough of Watkins to come to what I believe is a decent conclusion. I don't think Watkins will ever be elite. I think he is a good to very good wide receiver. Maybe a second tier guy, something like a 1B.

Watkins is an incredibly athlete, that is what led him to be drafted so high. He was a world class track athlete and it shows in how he runs. But he plays a little stiff in the hips, and that's going to keep him a notch below the greats. It's no offense to him, there's nothing he can really do about it. This is at least what I am seeing, others may have different opinions.

As for Goff, wow, I'm fairly speechless. He LOOKS like a ten year vet on the field. And remember, his mental clock will speed up even more and more. I think he's already ahead of Wentz.

error made on broadcast

I like Romo... he is a good combo of sports knowledge and humor....
One of the most knowledgeable play-by-play men out there.

When he speaks I listen because you can actually learn a lot listening to him.

He was dead on about our need to force the wide receivers to the middle during that last drive the Saints scored on.
They were killing us on those out passes and then stepping out of bounds to stop the clock.

Heresy in the age of Free Agency

And yet our run defense, which he should dominate, sucks. So in other words the greatest DT, which he is, can still be neutralized in the run game.

Again it comes down to his position. For years it has been stated that DE, LT, CB, and QB are the key positions. Last week we saw what happens when you lose a starting CB.... Dallas showed what happens when you lose a LT.

Heck, right now I would think hard if I would rather lose Donald for a game or Havenstein just because he would be tough to replace.

That's the key, you can scheme to get effective play without him at DT, but not so at OT or CB and certainly QB.

And with all that, I'd pay him IF, IF, IF what he wanted wasn't something like an opt-out clause.
