Ranking the Los Angeles Rams offseason moves for 2019

19. Letting LG Rodger Saffold walk in free agency

I disliked this move when it happened, and still do. Saffold was a stalwart on the Rams’ offensive line, and losing an elite protector is never a positive. The worst part of the loss of Saffold was that he was lost over a very fair four-year $44m contract.

I was all for resigning Saffold early as they did with Havenstein which could have saved 1 maybe 2 Million a year. It makes a lot of sense to let Saffold go at the price he got from the Titans. Hope he stays healthy but, he is getting older. Time to let Noteboom take over. Rams use the money elsewhere.

17. Re-signing Edge Dante Fowler Jr. to a one-year contract

I didn’t hate the idea of bring Fowler back, but the price was simply too high. Fowler — who has played on an almost exactly identical level as fellow free agent pass rusher Shaq Barrett — is going to get paid $8-10m more than Barrett in 2019. Fowler simply isn’t a $12-14m player, though the Rams were clearly desperate when it came to the edge position.

Here is where the Rams use the money. Rams get Fowler for a year to see what how far he can develop. I think get he gets better with time in the system and a year of OTA/Camp. Wade must feel very comfortable with Fowler to keep him over others. More money than I thought he should get by a long way but, it could pay off. I expect a big year from Fowler.

16. Signing Edge Clay Matthews to a two-year contract in free agency

This move was rather “boring”, though it could turn out to be a decent addition if all things workout as planned. Matthews’ deal is a two-year $9.25m contract, though that number can skyrocket to $16.75m by way of incentives. Matthews simply isn’t the same player he once was, but he’s still a definite upgrade over former starter Samson Ebukam.

Time will tell. I think he has another year maybe two left in the tank. Rams will keep him rested.

Which NFL head coach has best chance to win his 1st Super-Bowl?

I'd have Anthony Lynn of the Chargers right up there with Sean McVey. Chargers are a good team, won 12 games last season even though they had a lot of injuries. They have playmakers, had a good draft and have depth on both sides of the ball.

I will bet all my ROD $$ Chargers will go deep into the playoffs.

Vikings had their chance, Chiefs lost two of their top playmakers, have a crappy D and a locker room full of "me first" players. Bears depth is suspect and Tubisky is still green.
Colts have improved, Luck is very good, but is their defense there yet?

Resigning Peters just got more complicated

@BatteringRambo I'm curious why you don't?[/QUOTE] @LesBaker

TED RATH’S STATUS

Have the Rams made any contingency plans for a Rath replacement?

I haven’t heard of any. That implies that the Rams believe that he can soon be reinstated.

Rath’s Is a very important role in team success. The health and conditioning of Ram players under his guidance has been quite impressive.

Hope all this crap can get behind him by end of next month.

Rams Re-sign Littleton

Good job. Now extend him for four years, and I'll be happy.
I'd love that too, but I gotta think that Littleton will 'bet on himself' and hope that a solid 2019 season will make him a very rich man as a free agent.

I've been a big fan of Littleton's from the start, back when he was just a special teams standout. Sadly, I think he's so good now that it will be hugely expensive to keep him.

Rams ready for OTAs with some questions needing to be answered

Has Aaron Donald swollen into the next Jamarcus Russell with all of that canadian bacon and pineapple pizza he's been eating?

SJD #69 who is lined up behind AD is one very big DL'er too. I have a really good gut feeling :sneaky::Dhere that Joseph-Day will be a big contributor along with GG in this middle.

Phase III of offseason program, organized team activities begin for 2019 Los Angeles Rams

There are 28 days in Phase III before the Rams break off for the summer as training camp looms in late July

By 3k@3k_ May 20, 2019, 1:14pm CDT

Welcome to Phase III of the offseason program for the 2019 Los Angeles Rams:

Phase Three consists of the next four weeks of the program. Teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity, or “OTAs”. No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted.

Article 22 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement stipulates that clubs may hold one mandatory minicamp for veteran players. This minicamp...must occur during Phase Three of the offseason program.

A reminder of the schedule:

Phase III: May 20-June 16
OTAs: May 20-21, May 23, May 28-30, June 3-6
Optional mandatory minicamp: June 11-13

Ten OTAs and three minicamp days. That’s all the Rams have between today and training camp when it breaks in late July. Throw in training camp and a few weeks of three-day practice sessions and you’re looking at about 40 practices between today and Week 1 of the regular season.

So there’s a premium on using this time to make sure you get guys ready especially the younger more inexperienced players and ESPECIALLY the younger more inexperienced players that look to be in line for playing time.

Of course, the asterisk that looms here is injury. Already, we’ve seen the first victim claimed as former San Francisco 49ers and now Washington Injury Havers LB Reuben Foster was carted off earlier today. So light a candle, spill a drop of blood. Get your juju goin. The offseason is in its final phase. Then we vacate. Then...we begin

IMO Nick Scott is the sleeper in this draft.

I'll eat serious crow if Scott becomes a starter. I don't think he'll be anything more than a fourth safety and key special teams player. It's not bad for a seventh, but as I've stated in the past - and won't bother to rehash my feelings - I wanted more.
As your be said, that is solid value in the 7th round.
Some guys can turn great ST play and solid depth skill set into 10 year careers.

Hot Ones

My favorite of straight Louisiana style hot sauces is Crystal. That is very popular in New Orleans, or at least was prior to the flood. Made in town, and present in virtually all non-tourist restaurants - and often even in those. Not easy to find here in the Phoenix area, unfortunately. I used to be able to, not so common now. When I lived there from 1987-1999 it was available at all the small restaurants, the places locals would go to. As I said, tabasco was around too, but seemed to be mainly used by tourists.

Oh, and not relevant to the flavor, but the producers of tabasco are the ones who introduced nutria to south Louisiana. They wanted to breed them for their fur. A hurricane came, breaking the holding pens, and they are all over now, looking like 3 foot long rats and damaging the many drainage canals in the area.
I see Crystal here as well as Louisiana brand hot sauce in many restaurants but both are are milder and taste the same to me but are not the flavor of tabasco. Don't misunderstand I do like the flavor of both Crystal and Louisiana brand hot sauces and will gladly use them in the absence of tabasco. However I won't cook with them. For me tabasco's flavor is essential for many dishes. Personal preference as it is.;) I enjoy the old recipes rather than the new interpretations of the last 30 years.

Yeah the nutria are a bitch but taste good from what I hear. That stuff happens unfortunately. The asian carp were brought in by the rice farmers. It sucks.

The MCU going forward , whats next ?

Good; Nova is strong enough as a character to get his own movie. Infinity War and Endgame are the wrong movies to introduce a new character.

Did you watch Incredible Hulk, Avengers, Age of Ultron, and Ragnarok? The Hulk you want is in those movies.

Thanos is the strongest being in the MCU to date, across the cosmos. Him beating the Hulk in that fashion makes Thanos even more a legit of a villain (something internet nerds have been complaining about in the MCU for the last decade). It's more of a honor to Thanos, than a dig at Hulk.

RE - Mjolnir...based on your response it seems like you haven't watched Endgame. Go watch it. :cautious:
I never understood why Thanos was so powerful anyway. Was everybody on Titan like that? Why is he special? They never really cover it; he just kind of is better than everyone else, even when he doesn't have the stones. His sword cuts through something that should be indestructible. His power and his equipment being so powerful doesn't make any sense within the context of the movies. We're just supposed to accept that he's a super bad ass for no reason.

And like LoyalRam said, the more you beat up the Hulk the angrier he gets. The angrier he gets the more powerful he gets. I wasn't aware that there was an upper limit to that. I read World War Hulk (most of it anyway). Nobody stands up to that guy. Nobody in a group stands up to that guy.

Then suddenly all that goes out the window and Thanos is so powerful that the Hulk's infinite power up can't match him? It just seems hollow.

Which Los Angeles Rams 2020 UFA's has the most to prove?

Any time you about to become a free agent you need to have a good year. All of them need to play at or near their best.

The most money on the line is Fowler and Peters. I wished the Rams would have rapped up a longer term deal for Littleton. I see Peters leaving and Fowler may cost too much. Wouldn't want to have to replace all three. Inside LBers that can cover are hard to find.

We have to re-sign Littleton to a long-term deal. I can't stress that enough. He calls the plays for the defense, and he's a well-rounded linebacker with speed, who can cover all but the swiftest tight ends and running backs, and makes splash plays happen. We absolutely cannot afford to let him go.

John Johnson III is another player we can't afford to let go, but that's a different topic altogether.
