NFL's most indispensable offensive players for the 2019 season

I get their reasoning, and you could for every team exclude their left tackle in addition to their QB, but I might go Kupp. Yes we saw what happened when TG wasn’t involved in the playoffs. I think however one Cooper Kipp mitigates some of that. Plus the addition of
Henderson and McVay seeing what happened last year will change things it’s our game plans this year.
Yeah, I would have picked Kupp too.

What we know about Kliff Kingsbury's mysterious offense in Arizona

They'll have an advantage early in the season vs opposing defenses with nothing on film in terms of both the scheme and QB. Tough first quarter schedule but i think they'll win 2 of those games.

vs Detroit
@ Baltimore
vs Carolina
vs Seattle

If Kingsbury is worth his salt they'll get better as the season progresses, as long as Murray puts the work in.

Rams don't get them until December. Wade will be ready for whatever they want to do.

Mortality and Aaron Donald

If he retired after 7 years, it would take an additional 5 years for him to enter 1st ballot into the Hall of Fame. Twelve years from now, I'd be 67 years old. This is older than any male direct ancestor of mine since 1800, so it's not likely I will be around to see him don the Gold jacket, and that makes me a little sad, and feeling very mortal.

Start eating salad. And when your wife looks at you funny, tell her it ain't for her, it's for AD. :p

Peter Schrager would take Jared Goff over other NFC West QBs for next 5 years

If I had to pick for the next 5yrs it would be tough between Goff and Wilson.

Wilson is better today, at least in some elements.

But, Goff feels like the better long play factoring age.

I’d probably pick Goff.

Wilson MIGHT be better today - but it's close, and he is likely at his peak. As he ages, he will lose a step, and probably has learned most of what he needs to know to succeed now.

Goff is still improving, learning more and more. I expect his flaws to improve season after season for a few more years. Wilson turned 24 his rookie season, while Goff turned 24 last season. He's still growing up and learning, but learning rapidly. Let's face it, after that disastrous first season with zero offensive guidance, did anybody really expect him to have pro bowl seasons the next two years? And they have been working all offseason to improve some of his flaws, and will likely do that each offseason for a number of years.

So if Wilson was better in 2018, that doesn't mean it's likely to be the case this season - much less the four seasons after this one.

The NFL Play-Action Awards: Picking the best teams, QBs and more

Saw this earlier and had to come back to comment. Great illustrations on the Rams play action (they were not Goff best fakes) but, you see how they held the LBer. I guess this is the system the media keeps talking about. However, Goff isn't always doing play action fakes. Surprised teams don't use it more but, they do use it. He still has to make the throws. Those videos are great.

We Love LA: Nickell Robey-Coleman

That PI in NO was a example of how he free lances too much instead of focusing on what his play assignment is. That was the second perhaps 3rd time he'd done that during the game. Like Peters was doing, he's trying to make an off scheduled splash instead of simply doing what his assignment is. He's been doing it more and more. His response was to brag about how the rule should be named after him. It's all about him...that's being a diva. Peters played better when he simply quit free lancing. I'm sure Wade had a lot to say about it. Roby needs to learn that same lesson. You can be the best slot CB in the NFL but if you lose a playoff game because of free lancing what good is all that talent if he wastes it when you need it most.

This is why I would love them to coach up Scott, as a CB this year and then let Peters walk next year. I'd rather play with a two new CB's like Long and Scott than endure more of Peter's ego. The problem with the Ram D last year was that there were too many plays made by the opposition because guys simply didn't do their jobs. We saw that in Middleton last year when he simply didn't execute the coverage pass off and hung Peters out to dry. Last year the secondary was too undisciplined. Send a message, tighten your focus or walk.
I think you missed what happened on that play Oldnotdead. NRC saved a blown coverage by another Ram. He about played it perfectly. The only other think he could have done was turn to the ball as the it got near the receiver but in real time he had a millisecond and needed eyes in the back of his head to have made that decision. Keep posting but your strong opinion against NRC was not supported by this example.

Jack Del Rio had no idea Jaguars would draft Blaine Gabbert

Georgia was the worst owner in pro sports. Gold digging hag.
What she did to the Rams was criminal. It should have been our dynasty in the 80s, not the niners. We had more talent.
Look at al the Pro Bowls and All Pros from that era. We had the best defense in the 70s, not the Steelers. Most sacks, least rushing TDs.

I agree.

One of the things that helps me now is... I never say, or even type, "that woman's" name. Just do it like that from now on... only refer to her as "that woman" going forward. It provides me with a slight bit of comfort... maybe it can do the same for you.

So, how many Snead/McVay draft HR’s have there been?

Well, in ‘17 Kupp and JJ were clear HR’s. Especially where they were picked, respectively. Everett looks promising as he enters his 3rd year, to say the least. And Reynolds could start for some teams. Neither Everett or Reynolds are HR’s (yet), but they may be doubles or triples don’t you think? BTW, Ebu was a starter in his 2nd year, sooooo...

In ‘18 it’s not so clear. Noteboom, Allen, and Kiser are all projected ‘19 starters on an elite SB level team. All drafted in the 3rd round or later. Not yet with the lofty status of a Kupp or a JJ, however. In addition, JFM and Joseph-Day are expected to be strong rotational contributors, if not outright starters. Demby appears to be well positioned to be first off the bench for our OL, maybe even a potential starter at RG. Very impressive group, to say the least, but no HR’s.

Way too early to judge the ‘19 draft class, of course, but what Ram fan isn’t excited about the potential of Rapp, Long, Henderson, and Gaines? I mean, for THIS year, maybe? And nobody better go to sleep on Evans and Edwards, either. One, or both, could be starters as soon as the ‘20 season based upon Kromer’s track record. Looking like a great draft class at this point, huh?

Helluva start by Snead and McVay. Two clear HR’s already and quite a few triples and doubles as well in this small sample.

For a 4th rounder, like Reynolds, to contribute as much as he has is at least a triple. You have to take into account the player's draft position.

Jared Goff has been working on reacting post-snap this offseason

His only real weakness is that he isn't good under pressure. When he has a clean pocket, he's one of the best, but when they start getting in his face, that's where he needs to improve. I suspect that will come with time, still a young guy.
I think you could say that about many if not all NFL quarterbacks. Brady comes to mind. Goff has made some astonishingly good plays while under pressure, but has struggled when his protection breaks down completely. Even Brees and Rodgers have been rattled under constant pressure. I believe Goff will improve in that area significantly this year. Specifically, Jared's awareness of ball security could be improved upon when his protection breaks down. I believe it will this season. The game will slow down for him incrementally as each season's lessons accrue under his belt.

Waldron sees both Higbee, Everett taking a step forward in 2019

Waldron sees both Higbee, Everett potentially taking a step forward in 2019

One of the consistent storylines throughout the offseason program was how much progress tight end Gerald Everett appeared to be making heading into his third season as a pro. During OTAs, it seemed the South Alabama product made an impressive catch or two each day, demonstrating his value to an already productive offense.

But passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Shane Waldron — who coached Los Angeles’ tight ends in 2017 and 2018 — has noticed progress from Tyler Higbee, too.

And if both Higbee and Everett can take steps forward in 2019, that will give the Rams a significant offensive boost. Over the last two years, Los Angeles’ tight ends have accounted for an average of 53.5 receptions for 613.5 yards and four touchdowns as a whole — and that’s for a team that has finished within the top two in points scored in that same time span.

So increasing the production from Higbee and Everett could pay big dividends. And how did those two players look during the offseason program?

“I think Higbee since day one has had that steady improving of his game overall as a tight end that can do everything,” Waldron said during minicamp. “And then Gerald, like any young player, had his rookie year last year and had some times where he really shined once he overcame his early setback with an injury. Just like similar to Josh [Reynolds] and other guys that now we are talking about getting into year two, year three, some into year four, where they’ve really started to master the overall system and it’s great to have those tools at your disposal, so that whatever that matchup is that presents itself, you can maximize the individual skill set within those matchups.”

For Los Angeles, that could mean more targets to tight ends down in the red zone, where the club has finished middle of the pack over the last couple years. We’ll see how the targets and receptions are distributed during training camp, which could give a good indication of how things might go once the regular season hits.
