Know how to tell when a team’s roster is really loaded?

I suggest people factor in his production in 2015, 2016, 2017 as well. Those are corner stone production? He was playing inside and they drafted Donald then made the move to a 3-4 hybrid scheme when Wade was hired in 2017. Brockers is a scheme specific player. They have moved him around because this scheme is not a particularly good fit for him. He's a FA next year and his best fit is as a 4-3 DT playing a 3T. He's probably got 4 good years left in him. It's going to come down to stay making less but with a chance for a ring or try for one more fat contract. As a 4-3 DT 3T he can probably get $10 - $12M a year contract. I still think they drafted JFM specifically to replace Brockers and I think he will next year.
Again 2019 is THIS year. Brockers, Matthews, Weddle, Peters , Talib will be a big part of the Rams defense THIS year. 2020 is NEXT year. They may or may not be ANY part of the Rams NEXT year but for THIS year they are part of a loaded Rams defense.

Around the League; 10 NFL players with most to prove in training camp

Yeah, I don't see why Manning is on the list. They likely want him to be the starter at the beginning of the season, to give Jones a little more time, but he WILL be replacing Manning before midseason. We've seen that again and again, and Manning's contract is expiring at the end of the season. He won't be offered another by the Giants, and nobody realistically expects him to be. The only thing Manning has to prove in training camp is whether he should be cut in training camp or should help with the transition. There have to be more than 10 players ahead of him on a league-wide list of players with the most to prove in training camp. Heck, I'd put Jones ahead of him - he's trying to prove that he should be the starter right away, instead of weeks into the season.

2019 NFL schedule rankings, NFC West

What stands out to me is the winter weather issue. Their last cold weather and maybe the only one is November 10 at Pittsburgh. IMO the loss to the Bears had as much to with the cold as the Bears D. The Bears D is good, but the Rams aren't built to be a grind it out offense. They like to spread you out and keep you guessing.

I think that is going to change. That is why I anticipate a rebuilding of the oline, younger, bigger, stronger. I see phyisical over finesse in the type of players they are going for. Your offense starts up front.

Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th to all of you. As Americans we need to be grateful for all those who have served and continue to serve to preserve our country.

Veterans Day, November 11, Holiday honoring all those who served.
Memorial Day, last Monday in May, Holiday honoring those who died in military service to their country.
Armed Forces Day, usually the third Saturday in May, Holiday honoring active duty service members.

How do coaches evaluate offensive linemen during the offseason program?

You can evaluate their work ethic in things like knowing the playbook, weight room work, working on things like the sled, overall conditioning, etc. You can look at techniques and footwork. In other words a lot of small things that total a lot when all is said and done. Coaching is teaching and a good teacher can tell if a student "gets it".

Both Allen and Noteboom played in 2018 and looked good in their limited snaps. I don't have a problem with either one.

A Knucklehead That can't Help Himself

It's a rumor I guess. But you would think a guy who just got kicked out of KC for bad behavior wouldn't risk putting himself in a bad situation where something could happen

Out of respect, LR..."cmon man!"
He went on camera and ate "mud pie." He then got signed for NFL $$. He is young and has superior #s. He knew he'd still be working. In fact, he was due to get a roster spot even though he was gonna miss time.

Why would he think he's in trouble or should watch his step? He's ... fill in the blank and engrave it on his gold chain.

Why they got into scouting: Los Angeles Rams college scouting director Brad Holmes

https://sports.yahoo.com/why-they-g...-scouting-director-brad-holmes-165715155.html

The whole thing is worth a read, lots of interesting stuff in there, but here's one question with very Rams-specific info-

Yahoo Sports:
That in-person eye test can be huge in splitting hairs, it seems.

Brad Holmes: Oh, yes. Like with the Rams here, I remember when we drafted Cooper Kupp. The first time I saw him live — I didn’t get a chance to make it to Eastern Washington his senior year, even though I did see him the prior year. I remember seeing him the year before because I had heard so much, and I remembered he was pretty good. But at the Senior Bowl, he just looked like a different player. It looked like he was different than everybody else on the field. He just went through the process, went to the combine, and he doesn’t run really fast. But it was like, every time you saw him play football with shoulder pads and a helmet, he was great.

Or when [former Rams corner] Janoris Jenkins came out, I was doing the Southeast area at the time. I remember he lined up man-to-man versus Julio Jones and A.J. Green in the SEC and did very, very well. So when he got in the NFL early in his career, you’d just see him lined up — they just slid him in, in man coverage — you saw that superpower. You’re seeing what you saw early on.

Take someone like [Rams safety] John Johnson. His instincts just stood out so much. He’s just turned into a heck of a run supporter. He’s just been terrific. But I remember during his evaluation process, it wasn’t really … I mean, he’s a good-sized kid, but you know, he didn’t run the fastest. I remember watching him live and then again at his Senior Bowl, it’s not like he was picking off a bunch of balls — and he might have had six picks or something in his [college] career.

But he was just cutting off so many routes. He just instinctively knew the angles to take. So I look at him now — I remember that first start he had against Seattle and his picks that ball off on the sideline and I am just like, yep, that’s what you saw.

Or like, [Rams 2019 second-round pick] Taylor Rapp is a guy that, whew, we loved him. We had [a first-round grade on him]. And you’re probably going to say, OK, why didn’t you take him at 31 then? Well, we just kind of thought that with all the information we had that we’d have that opportunity to move back and pick up some more draft capital and be in a position to get him.

We’re really excited about Taylor and Darrell Henderson and David Long and [Greg] Gaines has a lot of ability. Bobby Evans, he’s gonna be … in a great situation for our line. Yeah, we’re really excited about all those guys.

Great clips that support the book. One run after another with two views. Plus passing. Very mesmerizing. All 22 clips. Probably remember most plays. Nice to see the view especially if you don't get the all 22 replays.

NFL Film Sessions

This deserves a bump. Watched the first three. All good stuff. Akiem Hicks is great to watch and listen to. Student of the game as is Joe Thomas. They share a lot of detail goes into game study and technique. Would like to see the bad plays they had and show what they did wrong but, can't blame them for not showing them.

Rams love potential of Darrell Henderson, versatile RB group

Colburn is going to have to make it on STs to make this team. He's short, but fast and shows good agility. Maybe he can take JoJo's spot as a return specialist.

With Henderson they have another take it to the house RB to compliment Gurley. Gurley gives them speed and power, able to run inside or outside. Brown is a power RB with limited agility and average speed. He's not going to out run anyone but he can run over them. Now with Henderson they have a smaller RB with good speed but with great acceleration. You look at his play and you see the classic 3rd down back who can use his acceleration on draws, and his hands as a receiver out of the back field. I don't see an every down RB at this point. You have to question his field vision. Is it a matter of not seeing or lack of patience. There is a case to be made it's more of lack of patience by the way he plays. It's something he will have to learn. But as a rookie he can play his share of snaps and perhaps be an impact player. He has the potential to be just that this year.

IMO he's not simply and outside runner. He has the acceleration and runs with surprising power to run between the tackles in an inside zone.

Phillips expects Micah Kiser to step into larger defensive role

I think there is too much put into the Kiser has to fill the Baron role.

Littleton is pretty good in pass coverage and we aren't going to be asking Kiser to do much more than fill the hole and get the ball carrier.

Barron's role will be filled with a mix of guys including Weddle, Matthews, Rapp, Christian, Long

One thing we can be certain on is Wade's defense is going to be multiple.

You mix multiple with Donald and tell me what it tastes like

From Steven Jackson's blog, A Young Man’s Game

It was a long article.

Here is another long article that could be better but, you may want to click it. The average ages seem to fluctuate some and even stay the same. Too bad there are not totals to get an all around average age. There are also a lot more younger college players declaring for the draft. The Rams have two veteran WRs that are still young in Woods and Cooks while on their second contract. Woods is 27 Cooks is only 26 come the end of Sept. Rams have a good mix of younger and older players.

Rams & Chiefs Have the Worst NFL Fan Bases

You may want to re-think your attendance at the Coliseum for 2019 after watching some of these new improvements, also all new seats & field. USC has done a nice job with the upgrades.

Hard pass for me. I went to the very 1st game against the Seahawks, and vowed to never set foot in that place ever again. Even understanding some of the logistical problems (running out of beer, the dumpster fire that was getting in the gates, etc.) due to being new at it, there was just enough wrong with the whole vibe and setting to where I'd rather pocket $400 in profits a game and watch it from home.

Michael Brockers

I posted this today in this thread. Can't believe I didn't comment in this thread.

Yes- it will be interesting how the rotation plays out, especially with Henderson as DL coach. Where does Barry(c) or #52 play out as de/lb ?
This defense should be more aggressive without Suh & with Gaines. Suh seemed to take plays off.I’m not complaining, just very curious of how Weedle & Gaines play out vs Suh & Joyner.

Big #52 fathead fan !! This defense is going to be more aggressive. ** Brockers will get more chances to make plays. His size also helps disrupt passing lanes.

Los Angeles Rams: 5 Bold Predictions for the 2019 season

I don't see the Ram's overpaying on a long term extension for Peters. He's a loose cannon. He tries to play CB like a safety and that simply doesn't work. Like I've said in other posts, at most I see him being given a show me one year deal. Meanwhile they draft his replacement. Talib's age is showing and I don't see him being resigned. I think Long takes over for Talib next year and it's why he was drafted IMO.

The issue of Peters is why I've said what I've have about Nick Scott. He has the length and speed to play boundary CB. At this point he's probably faster than Peters. He's simply too raw at this point. His problem is he's changed positions too much. They are 3 deep at safety right now without him and through next year as well if they keep Weddle. Since Scott is a blank slate if they started to convert him to CB they would have 2 years to coach him up. They can still draft another CB next year and start the best one in 2021.

Sure Peters played better towards the end of the season but if you give him a long term extension can you trust he will stay on the reservation when he hasn't done so here and in KC? Peters IMO played himself out of a contract and lost the Rams the #1 seed with his going rogue. Why would you reward that? Better yet why would you trust him again? Let him walk and get the compensatory pick for 2020 is the better plan.

I think the Rams probably have a top 5 defense but they lack an elite outside pass rusher and Peters isn't a lock down CB anymore. I think their offense will be top 5 as well. Do I think it's good enough to make the Super Bowl? Absolutely, because it takes both to win a Ring. This is a much better team than last year. But they have a very tough schedule. I don't think any team can out play them. But I think they might lose a game or two due to mistakes or injury. Personally I think at worst they finish 13-3. If they stay healthy and don't make crucial mistakes I think they can go undefeated. But 13 or 14 wins is probably more realistic. It doesn't matter if they are undefeated. It only matters who takes home the Lombardi.
