Bellinger is an awesome player, but there are a couple of other guys that you could make the case who have been equally as impressive. Yelich and Trout have been awesome in their own right. Hell, even Bell has been insane. In the NFL, Mack is the only other guy who came close to being the defensive player that Donald was last year.

McVay's offense simply doesn't focus on the TE. The Y receiver (Kupp) runs those routes better than any TE can. This offense can operate with no TE's and simply play Henderson or Reynolds instead.

With the emergence of Reynolds, they can do that. This will force teams to play their dime lineup and that will really open up the run game as it will take 2 LB's out of that box. Playing 4 WR's might be coming. They have the WR depth to do it. Woods, Cooks, Kupp and Reynolds with Gurley in the backfield....eat your heart out AZ and Hawks. Their Dline will have to stop the RB and Ram WR's block well.

That is so FREAKING SILLY. The Rams are looking to play more 2 TE sets this season says TE & OC Waldron. Everett was shining big time in OTA’s & talking all kinds of smack.
Higbee is Goff’s guy since day one in training camp as roommates.You can see that in Hard Knocks if anything. Higbee has had a tough time at times(especially in practice) holding on to the ball. He has improved. Will see soon though.
As far as Mundt ?? I don’t know ?? I think he has been hurt a lot ??? Was he hurt last season or both seasons during the beginning of training camps ?? What I know is that last season I was yelling at Demoff to get a TE.

I get this question every year around this time. I always answer it, and here's why: There's no better way to bring the curtain down on an NFL season than to watch a team and loyal fan base experience their first Super Bowl victory. It's part of what made the Eagles' win in Super Bowl LII so special, and what makes the Patriots' repeated conquests increasingly tiresome for people outside of New England. Quick trivia: Prior to the 2017 Eagles, who was the last team to break a Super Bowl jinx? Time's up: The 2013 Seattle Seahawks. Before that? The 2009 Saints. Before that? The 2006 Indianapolis Colts (the Baltimore Colts won Super Bowl V). And before that? The 2002 Buccaneers. Based on the every-three-or-four-years pattern, we won't be busting our next dry spell until February 2021 at the earliest, but hey, you never know.

The Peterson I saw in late 2017 was better than both Troy Hill and Hatfield. I had high hopes for him last season before the injury. Coming off the ACL makes his road tougher even though it was early in the preseason when he was hurt. Troy Hill is no roster lock for sure. Hill has probably reached his ceiling and his growth is mostly maxed out at this point in his career. Peterson however, can still be view as a developmental talent with room to mature.

It’s the final week of summer break for the Rams, as staff, players, and coaches will check in for training camp at UC Irvine starting next Tuesday.But today, we’re continuing our Countdown to Camp series by taking a look at Los Angeles’ cornerbacks.

CORNERBACKS
Newcomers: David Long Jr.

The Rams group of cornerbacks remains largely intact from 2018 heading into this new season. The group did lose veteran corner Sam Shields in free agency, but each of the starters — Aqib Talib, Marcus Peters, and slot corner Nickell Robey-Coleman — are all back for a second year together as the leads of the group.

Talib missed half the season in 2018 due to an ankle injury, but came off of injured reserve in early December. His play was a significant part of Los Angeles’ defensive improvement down the stretch. In 11 games with Talib — including postseason — the Rams allowed 17.8 points per game and 321.1 yards per game. In eight games without the veteran corner? Los Angeles allowed 401.3 yards per game and 30.8 points per game.

On the opposite side, Peters certainly benefitted from Talib’s presence. But defensive coordinator Wade Phillips also got to know Peters and his skillset better throughout the course of the season. Starting all 16 games, Peters intercepted three passes and recorded eight passes defensed in his fourth pro season.

One element of this season to watch: Both Talib and Peters are entering the final year of their current contracts. Peters is at the end of his rookie deal, but even at the age of 33, Talib hasn’t shown signs of slowing down.

Robey-Coleman has excelled as Los Angeles’ slot corner since initially signing with the club in free agency during the 2017 offseason. Last year, Robey-Coleman recorded an interception, four passes defensed, and three tackles for loss. For what it’s worth, Robey-Coleman led all NFC West corners with a 82.6 grade from Pro Football Focus.

Likely the first man off the bench, cornerback Troy Hill has been with the club since Week 17 of the 2015 season and recently put pen to paper on a two-year contract to keep him in L.A. through 2020. Hill started most of the games when Talib was on injured reserve, playing the early downs while Shields came on the field in known-passing situations. Hill intercepted two passes and recorded five passes defensed in 2018.

The only newcomer in the position group, David Long Jr. is a Los Angeles native and should be ready to contribute sooner than later. The No. 79 overall pick in this year’s draft, Long was a terrific cover corner at Michigan where — also according to PFF — he allowed just 18 receptions on 60 targets for 130 yards.

For depth, Kevin Peterson is returning from tearing his ACL during the Rams’ first preseason game at Baltimore last year. He looked poised to be a significant piece during the early going of training camp in 2018, after impressing in Week 17 of the 2017 regular season by making a pair of interceptions off 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Peterson also had five passes defensed in that game.

Dominique Hatfield also has significant experience with the Rams, having been with the club since 2017. He’s bounced between the active roster and the practice squad a couple times, and has mainly contributed on special teams.

Rounding out the group, Los Angeles brought Darious Williams to the club off waivers in October from the Ravens. He played sparingly on special teams, but was mainly inactive on gameday. Dont’e Deayon and Ramon Richards spent last season on Los Angeles’ practice squad.

Could reserve offensive lineman Aaron Neary make the roster after his suspension is served?

Originally undrafted in 2016 and eventually latching on with the Los Angeles Rams, OL Aaron Neary never had it easy. The UDFA has spent time with the Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles, the Rams, Cleveland Browns, and then a second stint with the Rams.

Neary has spent majority of his NFL career on practice squads, including both the Eagles’ and Rams’ practice squads. The main issue for Neary is not that he hasn’t made himself distinguishable, it’s that he’s had run-ins with the NFL (and law) over a misdemeanor DUI and hit and run in 2018, as well as recently being suspended for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Neary will miss the first four weeks of the 2019 season, meaning he’s eligible to return in October.

Roster Battle
The more versatile a backup offensive lineman is, the better chance he has of making the roster. The starting five will consist of LT Andrew Whitworth, LG Joseph Noteboom, C Brian Allen, RG Austin Blythe, and RT Rob Havenstein. Those five are set in stone as roster locks. Reserve lineman Bobby Evans, Jamil Demby, and David Edwards are all likely to make the roster. That could leave one or two spots open, with a bevy of UDFA’s in Neary, Jeremiah Kolone (roster preview), Matt Kaskey (roster preview), Chandler Brewer, Vitas Hrynkiewicz (roster preview), and Brandon Hitner (roster preview) battling for the final spots.

Expectations
There are no expectations. Neary should try his best to stick on the roster, and if that isn’t possible extend his shelf life on the practice squad. The one positive that Neary does have in favor of his suspension is that he wont account for a roster spot while he’s on the NFI list, meaning the Rams can carry him on the team until he’s eligible to return prior to making a decision.

Chances of making the final roster (3/10)
They aren’t great, but they aren’t terrible either. Neary could very well grab the final offensive line roster spot.

Then a really good second tier of guys that includes McVay, Pederson, Payton, Carrol, Reid, etc. After that group it's the third tier of guys who are up and comers (Reich, McDermott, etc) or talented HC retreads (Arians), then a big group of average MFers I would call the JAG tier, then guys in poor situations (Shanahan), and finally guys who are probably going to be fired this season (Rivera, Quinn, etc.).

3 Rams players entering training camp with injury questions

The Los Angeles Rams report to training camp next week with practices beginning on Saturday, July 27. The return of football is so close you can taste it, but for some players, their starts to training camp might be limited a bit.

The Rams are healthy at this point in the offseason, as are most teams, but there are a few players heading into camp with minor injury questions, which could delay their full participation in practice.

RB Todd Gurley
Gurley isn’t dealing with a major injury. It’s not as if he’s coming off a torn ACL or an ankle issue. Instead, he’s just trying to get his knee feeling good for camp and the upcoming season. It’s likely a matter of pain tolerance and management as he gears up to practice for the first time since last season after staying off the field all spring. The goal for the Rams is keeping him fresh for the length of the season, which starts with training camp.

WR Cooper Kupp
Kupp, meanwhile, is actually recovering from a torn ACL. He’s making good progress and will participate in camp but it remains to be seen how much and how early. He did individual drills in OTAs and minicamp and even got in some team sessions at half-speed, but the Rams are going to bring him along slowly and carefully. He’ll definitely be out there, but it’ll probably be in a limited capacity – at least early in the process.


OLB Samson Ebukam
Ebukam underwent minor knee surgery this offseason and is still on the comeback trail from that procedure. He said back in May that he feels “great, but I can’t really try to push it and try to get back on the field because it’s a knee.” The Rams haven’t said anything about Ebukam’s status for camp so it’s definitely something to monitor. He wore a red non-contact jersey in OTAs.

Notables

• Morgan Fox tore his ACL last May and was wearing a brace at minicamp, but he should be fully healthy for camp.
• Tyler Higbee wore a red non-contact jersey during spring practices, though the Rams never specified the reason for it.
• Joseph Noteboom was also in a red jersey this spring as a precaution, which was not clarified by Sean McVay.
• Kevin Peterson is coming off a torn ACL suffered in August but was on the field for OTAs and minicamp.
• Malcolm Brown was placed on IR late in the 2018 season with a shoulder injury. He said in March that he’s fully healthy, however.
• Dominique Hatfield finished 2018 on IR with an ankle injury. The Rams haven’t updated his status but there’s little reason to expect him to be limited.

NFL isn’t “really pushing hard” a new CBA by Week One

Just last week, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that the league wants to have a new Collective Bargaining Agreement in place before the start of the league’s 100th season in September. Apparently, the league has changed its position in the past seven days.

“There’s been some talk that they want this done be Week One — the league, that is,” Mike Garafolo of the NFL said Wednesday. “We are told that this is extremely unlikely at this point, not something that the NFL is really pushing hard. Everyone would like to get this done earlier rather than later, but everyone wants to do the right deal not just the quick deal.”

That’s definitely a shift; asked by CNBC at the Sun Valley billionaires’ summer camp whether NFL wants the CBA in place before the season starts, Goodell said, “That’s certainly our intent.”

It’s possible that the NFL adjusted its intent after realizing that it’s just not practical to get a deal signed, sealed, and delivered by the start of the regular season. Or maybe the NFL senses that the NFL Players Association wanted too much of a premium to move quickly.

Regardless, the deadline already has been adjusted. The more realistic target, in our view and for reasons previously explained, is the start of the next league year in March.

In 1986 I was a senior in High School, and our Biology teacher was an entrant in the "Teacher in Space" program from where Christa McAuliffe was chosen to be the "first teacher in space". He made it thru several rounds of cuts and the entire school was totally invested in his quest, and after he was eliminated he was extremely involved. I can remember exactly where I was, and can picture my friend's face exactly when he told me it exploded.
I cant remember what I had for lunch today, but I can remember that moment precisely....

I think Kiser is going to be the key on D in regards to our run defense. In college he flew all over the field. IMO one of our biggest issue has been LB's filling the gaps on running plays. We just haven't had that guy that can identify the play and hit the hole with authority. I'm hoping Kiser will be that guy...

Outside containment has also been an issue. In the 3-4 we just don't have that stout DE to hold the end of the line. Our LB's can get manhandled on the outside. Hopefully Mathews, Fowler and co. will be able to shed blocks on the outside and make tackles...

I think the alignment depends on down and distance as well as if they are in nickel or dime.
