Snap Counts vs. Browns

If there's any negative to these snap counts, it's the Rams have yet to get their offense clicking and have failed to blow anybody out. I would love to see some of these vets get a few less reps and remain fresher for the end of the season.

I would love to see the Rams go into the playoffs with Mathews, Weddle, and Whitworth playing like they are now.

Game Balls for tonight

(More than a) Coupla things.

1) The refs were gonna keep this close. I mean the entire pregame was "Browns! Browns! Browns!" Also, the league really wants every single Sunday Night game to be a premier game. You can rest assured that the LAST thing they want is a blowout. The refs for the most part allowed both secondaries to play and that was going to stifle both passing games. That affects the Rams more than the Browns.

2) The Browns are like the 2016 Rams with a better offensive system. They have talent in many of the skill positions. I don't think Kitchens is the guy, but if they get the HC they need, they are gonna break out of that losing like we did.

3) The Browns secondary...well, their entire defense... balled out last night. I don't care if they were replacement players, they balled out. Mad respect to them. Folks thought they'd get rolled and they showed some pride and poise and made it a game.

4) It became clear in the 2nd half that McVay is FINALLY starting to see that one cannot live on that outside zone. What's funny is that in his first year, he ran those counter trey plays that would spring Gurley for massive gains. Once teams got caught up to that, they started with the outside zones and teams have caught up to that. Now, with all the gaps filled, there IS a way to defeat that. Power I or anything smashed into the A gap and they started to have success with that although I don't think our OL is comfortable with that smash mouth style, yet.

5) Nothing is wrong with Goff. He's faced 3 defenses where they are selling out against the run and playing lots of man. When the receivers get separation, he's doing okay, but all 3 defenses have REALLY showed up. You can't say that about the defenses that played the Pats, Chiefs and a few other teams.

6) I'm done speculating about Gurley's health. Some of it is how he's used. I don't think he's used to this and he's struggling to find the "feel" of the game. When you get 25+ touches a game, you can feel how the DL and LBs are playing and adjust your game...set a guy up, etc. I think Gurley is struggling to adapt to the lack of touches, not emotionally, but simply trying to find the flow. Also, he's MUCH, MUCH stronger as a counter trey type, one cut and go runner than shifty, "get skinny" type. It's an adjustment and I think he'll make it. Plus, late in the season or playoffs, if we need to saddle him up and ride him, we'll be able to do that.

7) The Rams won on the road against an ascending team with equipment problems (apparently Goff couldn't hear McVay often throughout the game). Sometimes the wins are ugly. I think some folks forget that the ugly wins count the same as the beautiful wins.

What Browns fans are saying

so much this.

i don't get how people drool over other qbs when they make great plays and gloss over the rest of their game yet they focus on every bad thing goff does and pay little attention to all the great things he does to help the rams win games.

.

Thank you, yes Jared had a tough game and made mistakes, but he also has the ability to not let those mistakes get to him and bounce back, he came right back after that interception and drove us for a touchdown. If not for Jared's mental fortitude we wouldn't win these games. Some people need to remember some of our more recent QBs and be a little more thankful for what we have

The 3-0 Vent Thread

We wouldn't have beat a good team by playing the way we did tonight. I know you did blue font, but they are still the Browns, and they still suck, no matter what kind of hype they get.

Actually they don't suck. They have a lot of talent. They played well tonight. Remains to be seen what happens to them moving forward, but they are competitive and a potential threat to win any game they play.

Rookie Greg Gaines aims to be Rams’ starting defensive tackle

Yeah you have stated before you don't like Day or Brockers but the coaching staff definitely disagree with your views. The results on the field definitely look good. No reason to play Gaines for the small amount of snaps he would play anyways
Brock has put up good film in all three games tbh, feel comfortable saying that given how much I noticed him tonight that he'll grade out well.

SJD was very good in week 2, not sure about tonight gonna reserve judgment until I rewatch when the coach film comes out. But I certainly see zero reason to be negative with anyone on the DL as of yet.

A Poll about having to share Inglewood with the Chargers

Hahahahaha

First - yes, having more cash does make teams more able and willing to pay big money to coaches.

Second, notice that the Rams just gave Goff a huge signing bonus, while the overall contract given to Goff was towards the lower end for what many here expected - they could afford to frontload the contract to a great extent, two seasons before it takes effect. That is because of the Rams being a richer team, with one of the richer owners in the league. It saves cap space, and the player is happy because of the time value of money. The Rams want to continue taking advantage of their wealth whenever possible.

Not sure what I "made up" about the Chargers.

It is fascinating how you believe that Kroenke - who used lease violations to get out of St Louis and move to LA, wanting to be the only team there - would not be exploring possible lease violations by the Chargers to get out of the lease with the Chargers at the right time. Is he doing that out of the goodness of his heart? Apparently the lease called for the Chargers to contribute more money from their seat licenses than they will actually be getting from their seat licenses. Should the Rams ignore that, when the only reason they negotiated with the Chargers was to placate the NFL and to keep the Raiders out?

Kroenke is a ruthless negotiator. His entire career shows that. Is he suddenly going to stop?

Kroenke is a lifelong turd.

Rams-Browns Preview

Sean McVay loves the way Marcus Peters, Aqib Talib have played so far

Only six teams in the NFL have allowed fewer passing yards this season than the Los Angeles Rams. furthermore, they’re only one of two squads that hasn’t given up a single touchdown pass through two games; the Chargers are the other.
For a team that struggled to defend opposing aerial attacks last season when Aqib Talib was out, this is a huge step in the right direction. Marcus Peters has played some great football in the first two weeks, while Talib has locked down the other side of the field.

And the play of the top three safeties – John Johnson, Eric Weddle and Taylor Rapp – has elevated the defense to another level.
Sean McVay is unsurprisingly thrilled with the way the Peters and Talib have played, in particular, crediting them for limiting big plays down the field.
“I think they’ve done a nice job. I think really our defense as a whole has done an outstanding job communicating,” McVay told reporters this week. “Like with anything else, there’s always some things that we can continue to clean up. I think in terms of limiting the big plays when you look at we’ve only given up two plays over 20-yards in the first two games against two explosive offenses, that’s a very positive thing. Make offenses snap it one more time, but been pleased with those guys.”
Wade Phillips echoed those same sentiments earlier, also showing an appreciation for the way Peters and Talib played. In the first two games of the season.

“Marcus and Aqib have both played real solid for us,” Phillips said. “We haven’t given up many big plays and they’re not going after them. You always see a ball game you say, well their going after this one cornerback because the other cornerback can’t really play. They haven’t gone after either of our corners very much because both of them can play.”
Having two healthy, high-caliber cornerbacks is huge for the defense. As Phillips said, there’s no way for an offense to pick on one player. It’s almost a game of pick your poison when targeting one of the Rams’ corners because both are playing at a high level.

Baldinger breakdown of Aaron Donald vs Saints

AD says he is 100% for tonight and I'm relieved that it was only a muslce strain.

On Skip, I don't watch those stupid shows with the useless female mediator and the 2 footblall guys arguing. I only tune in once in a while to youtube clips of those shows for whatever reason, and that can be anyone's show not just the lame ESPN shtick. I used to like GMFB but have gotten tired of that one too. Just using it for NFL-related background noise for whatever I'm doing until gametime.

@ Cleveland 09.22.19 : Concerned about Myles Garrett

I worry that Garrett is going to injure Goff. He uses his body to land on top of QBs. He doesn't seem to be making any effort to change his tackling style. AD could teach him how to do it without a penalty.

Garrett isn't likely to go the whole game without a few hits on Goff. I just hope Goff can evade his full on attacks.

Garrett was just fined almost 50 thousand by the NFL for using his body on his 4 sacks. Hope Garrett doesn't rush from both sides like Cam Jordan did last week before from the saints. He has no technique anyway, why not try to test Havenstein who had 2 holding calls against Havs.
