Jrry32's Final Mock Draft of 2020

Hamler is a baller. 4th round pick was the price for moving up a few spots in the late 1st. Not sure we would get one to move back in the mid to late second.

I'm just using the TVC. It's impossible to anticipate what somebody is willing to trade.

How does this draft change if Zack Baun isn't there? I've seen mocks that have him going at the top of the round.

BTW: Thanks for the great work @jrry32 !!!

It completely changes the draft. Maybe we go HB. Maybe we go WR. Maybe we go OL. Maybe we go Josh Uche. But the draft is totally different if Baun isn't there.

2020 NFL Draft Thread - Round 1

Yeah. I think most people are cool, myself included, when you think of us trading our 2020 first rounder for Ramsey. I mean, he’s a stud and good luck finding one of those any draft.

However...

Your point about salary is a good one, and I’ll frame the Ramsey trade a little differently...

Would you trade Ramsey for any of these guys, or any remaining player, and a 2021 1st rounder? So..

Rams: trade Ramsey

Rams: receive one of these guys, plus a 2021 first rounder

20. Jacksonville f/LAR: EDGE K'Lavon Chaisson, LSU (our pick position, we could have picked any of these or any remaining player)
21. Philadelphia: WR Jalen Reagor, TCU
22. Minnesota f/BUF: WR Justin Jefferson, LSU
23. LA Chargers f/NE: LB Kenneth Murray, Oklahoma
24. New Orleans: OL Cesar Ruiz, Michigan
25. San Francisco f/MIN: WR Brandon Aiyuk, Arizona State
26. Green Bay f/HOU via MIA: QB Jordan Love, Utah State
27. Seattle: LB Jordyn Brooks, Texas Tech
28. Baltimore: LB Patrick Queen, LSU
29. Tennessee: OL Isaiah Wilson, Georgia
30. Miami f/GB: CB Noah Igbinoghene, Auburn
31. Minnesota f/SF: CB Jeff Gladney, TCU
32. Kansas City: RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, LSU

I bet a fair amount chime in that they’d trade Ramsey. Me, I don’t know.

Murray + 2021 1st round pick + the money to sign Ramsey. His $13Mil could have gotten the Rams an offensive lineman (not sure who) or some other player.

Rams would still need a CB. It a close call because the good CBs went and go early.

Do NFL Prospects Really Develop That Much?

You're right that it doesn't. But my philosophy has always been that the draft is a crapshoot and that you should take what you can get. Yeah, you might be able to find a slot WR in the 3rd round who can produce like that, but the odds are still stacked against you doing it. At the end of the day, if I find a guy who can produce at a high level, I'm happy. Even the first round has a bust rate of 40% to 50%. It only gets worse from there. If I'm consistently hitting on my first and second round picks, odds are that I'm doing well for myself and my team.
My philosophy has always been to take the best player available within reason. And the within reason part includes positional value and roster needs. And despite the bust rate between rounds, some positions are just far easier to fill than others. And finding a quality slot WR has to be one of the easiest positions to fill.

Centers could go higher than expected

Don't we run a hybrid Zone Power/man scheme?

that's what they ran last year. But drafting Evans and Edwards makes me wonder if they are moving in another ditection. Neither seems to be good for the zone scheme but Drew d's especially looked a bit stiff for that scheme. I guess we will find out if they draft a different type of Center and/or guard. They interviewed Hunt and he is all power imo.

Memento's Epilogue: The Final 2020 Mock Draft Thread.

Lots of great talent picked up. Thanks for doing it.

If we got all those players it would be a hell of a haul. Not sure some of them fall that far based on current group think projections out there but who knows on draft day.

Baun, CEH, Biadasz and Muti I am highly rooting for us to land all 4. Don't know too much about the late round picks.

You addressed a lot of key positions so that is good.

I am not sure what I think of Mims, He might fit our sheme well as a good blocking WR and possession WR.

Yeah, a lot of them could definitely go higher or lower than expected. Definitely rooting for us to draft CEH. I think he solves our #1 running back problem.

Mims actually ran a 4.38 at the Combine. He has the potential to be one of the best receivers in the league if he pans out. Think a faster, less douchebag Michael Thomas.

I would take a safer OC than Biadasz. I would hate to listen to Rams nation chirp about going from Allen to Biadasz if these red flags continued in the NFL. Just feel we need to hit on a lot of picks right now and feel taking a injury risk player isn't wise. Otherwise I like it.. And yes keeping Reynolds is wise love his blocking too (12P sets)

Yeah, we could take Hennessey or another center at #52/#57, but I prefer Biadasz. I think he could be the answer to our problems. Unlike Allen, he has functional strength and technical skills. Like Edwards, he was projected to go much higher than this. He's what the Rams need.

Why the Rams will be busy signing undrafted Free agents

I know some of you absolutely love this phase of the draft. Usually it is a lot of names that I am not familiar with, who mostly end up as backups or on the practice squad. However, this draft may be different. With less scouting leading up to the draft and GMs having to rely on their own scouting reports and trusting their staff, maybe Snead can find some real treasures. The odds are in his favor with the ability to sign more UDFAs. We all know that he has had some success in the past.

Why the Rams will be busy adding UDFAs after the draft

The Los Angeles Rams are the only team currently over the salary cap, sitting more than $5 million above the $198.2 million limit. They’re in that position despite only having 58 players under contract, which is the second-lowest total in the NFL.
Teams can carry as many as 90 players on their roster during the offseason, and just about every team reaches that limit at some point after the draft. The Rams may have a hard time getting to 90 players in the next few weeks, but this weekend should bring a lot of new faces to the team.
As Adam Schefter of ESPN pointed out, teams with a smaller roster size right now have a lot of flexibility when it comes to adding undrafted free agents. The Rams are among them, and they should be busy signing undrafted rookies after the seventh round ends.

Not to mention, with the structure of the Rams’ roster and cap situation, they need cheap talent. They can’t go out and sign notable free agents to fill their remaining needs, considering they haven’t even officially signed Leonard Floyd.
There’s no cheaper talent than undrafted rookies, who take up very little cap space. Granted, only the top 51 salaries on the team count against the cap, but the Rams still can’t afford to make any significant additions in free agency.
With seven draft picks and another dozen or so rookies likely to be signed after the draft, the Rams will get an infusion of young talent this weekend.
