3 takeaways from QB John Wolford’s command of the Rams offense

Now I don't like a QB who runs first, but I was always a fan of the QB's that could extend the plays like Roger Thomas Staubach, Francis Asbury Tarkenton & Tom Brady when he first came up. Mahomes has that ability too, so the ability to move the chains and keeping the play alive to avoid a sack is positive trait IMHO.

yeah I should have clarified. The guys you mention run enough to extend drives. Murray runs too much. Wilson scrambles more to avoid sacks, which is good. But I don't enjoy watching Baltimore. I enjoyed watching the Cards but only because they were Rams wins. :ROFLMAO:

Rams Sign LB Daniel Bituli

Maybe they are trying to see if he can win a starting ilb job? Which does not bode well if they are looking at this point.

Maybe they aren't happy with their depth? It would be difficult to trust Kiser's health at this point. Can he play a full season?

I agree with @Corbin. They need to identify a good job in the draft and prioritize the position. That or with a free agent, but cap space makes that seem unlikely.
Maybe they're looking to see if he could fill a specialist role, (short-yardage/goal-line), and whether he'd be worth developing on the PS for that role. It's very unlikely that a new rookie or returning cut player is going to earn a 53-man roster spot.

7 Rams standouts from first week of padded practices

Your incredulous disbelief that someone can have a differing opinion about this draft leads me to believe that you just can’t stand that someone may not agree with the staff. Why would that be? There are some fans that can not tolerate anyone questioning the staff. I get that impression from you. I used to talk myself into picks being good every year despite being disappointed in other players being passed over, most often to see those Rams picks flop. So I stick to my guns and stand by what I originally thought these days. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong, maybe I’ll be proven right. I don’t care either way. You shouldn’t either though. But your defiance that I could possibly come up with another draft that I liked then your little “I’ll wait” comment was mockery. So I made some assumptions regarding your stance. Forgive me if I’m wrong but your the one who originally took issue with me being disappointed in not addressing what I feel are two major needs. I’m not the only one btw.

The fact that you seem to find it absurd that I still have not changed my stance further reinforces my opinion of the type of fan you are. This is training camp. I recall many players excelling in camp that got cut. We’ve heard great things about Van Jefferson but nothing outside the usual draft pick hype on the others. I am also a firm believer that it takes a very rare Runningback to be successful without good run blocking. So how great will Akers possibly be? Is he Steven Jackson? Even Dickerson needed holes.

Now if this class ends up being as great and impossible to dislike as you now think it is. I’ll admit I was wrong, but only if the Oline doesn’t hold the Rams back from the playoffs or if the linebackers don’t let the defense get gouged by long runs all season. Maybe Snead and Company are playing for the long haul, but since Olinemen take longer to develop and skill position players usually less time, then drafting skill position players is like putting the cart before the horse. I really like the Burgess pick. Lewis is a bit high for an injury prone player. The rest is a crapshoot. If they come out of this in a few years with a great receiver, good runningback, and good safety are you going to call it a smashing success, especially if they are still struggling with the offensive line and ilb position along with the decline or departure of other key pieces?

I’m practically speechless, Elmgrove. I just don’t get the hostility, man.

But you are certainly entitled to your opinions. I’m done.

So, just how much production are the Rams gonna derive from this rookie class?

A game changing draft to me is more than three starters.

It’s more like two All Pros, and three or four other good players.

Or one HOf quality player with two very good starters and a two or more keepers but not necessarily stars.

There have been some even better drafts than I describe as being game changing drafts. Here are is a story on them

Here’s how I look at it. Directly addressing needs on a good team has a bigger impact and makes a class look better instantly, like the Bears in 1983. Filling the weak spots and catapulting the team into a Super Bowl contender will always be more impressive.

Drafting for future losses won’t look as impressive; for instance, if Terrell Burgess ends up being as good as JJ and then JJ departs, then difference is negligible and lowers the perception of the pick.

Overall there are fewer undiscovered finds these days, like the Cowboys had the luxury of picking when Jimmy Johnson took over, so it’s much more difficult imo to score a home in draft.

My thoughts on this Rams draft:

Akers - Won’t wow because of poor Oline play. Could become a very good Rb if the Rams ever upgrade the line. He will get beat up making his own holes at this level.

Van Jefferson - becomes a Robert Woods to Torre Holy threat. Borderline HOF, or just a very good receiver.

Terrell Lewis - this is a tough one. His track record with injuries is not good. At his best maybe he’s a very good old, who the Rams will have to fight to keep come free agency. At worst too injured you stay on the field.

Terrell Burgess - JJ type of good safety. Not a HoF impact but very good and eventually coveted by teams in FA

Bryce Hopkins - not a full time starter.

Jordan Fuller - quality backup

Clay Johnston - cut

Sam Sloman cut

Tremayne Anchrum - backup for a few years

So one very good player in Jefferson, two or possibly three good players in Akers, Lewis, Burgess. The rest likely have little to no impact.

So a good but not great class.

10 Observations from the Rams' Aug. 26 training camp practice

10 Observations from the Rams' Aug. 26 training camp practice

1) Saw safety Taylor Rapp (knee) in uniform – pads and helmet included – doing some work off to the side with members of the Rams' athletic training staff. While running back Darrell Henderson (hamstring) didn't have pads and a helmet on, he was also doing the same. Rams head coach Sean McVay said after practice this activity was "a step in the right direction" for both.

2) In a setting that prompted flashbacks to last Saturday's scrimmage, rookie wide receiver Van Jefferson matched up with cornerback Jalen Ramsey twice during one-on-one redzone work. While Ramsey got the best of Jefferson on Saturday, it was Jefferson who won each of those two reps in today's practice.

3) Also similar to last Saturday's scrimmage, Jefferson got reps with both reserves and the first-team offense and was routinely getting open against defensive backs belonging to both groups.

4) Defensive tackle Aaron Donald had a veteran's day off. "We needed to give those interior (offensive) lineman a breather," McVay joked.

5) Even on his day off, though, Donald was still active throughout practice by helping defensive line coach Eric Henderson coach the group during drills.

6) At the same time, the offense seemed to capitalize on Donald's absence. During 11-on-11 work, Goff connected with wide receiver Cooper Kupp over the middle on what would've been roughly a 20-yard touchdown pass and also completed a short pass to wide receiver Robert Woods for a 2-point conversion.

7) The first-team run defense did a nice job of getting penetration during situational redzone work. One notable play was defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day stopping rookie running back Cam Akers in the backfield for a loss.

8) While it was against the third-team defense, Akers delivered another display of his physicality with the the first-team offense. From near midfield in opponent territory, he broke off what would've been a long run to the right side and ran over the only defensive back who stood in his way. Like we saw during the second practice in pads, Akers is not one to shy away from contact.

9) Rookie offensive lineman Tremayne Anchrum Jr. saw action with the second-team unit today. This comes after seeing veteran left tackle Andrew Whitworth taking the time to mentor Anchrum during yesterday's practice.

10) Kickers Sam Sloman and Lirim Hajrullahu each hit a roughly 40-yard field goal during situational 11-on-11 work. The scenario for both was the end of a drive during the final two minutes of the first half.

Dak Trying To Get His Receivers Killed

Are you forgetting Cedee Lamb? I really think that guy has crazy ass potential, he's 6,2 and a beast down the field. IDK if id' be comfortable without a cover 2 rolling Hills way to say we can cover him by himself. Ramsey on Cooper, Fuller/Long on the 3rd or 4th WR with JJ on the TE?

YEEEEE???
I didn't forget I just didn't include him cuz he still has to prove himself in the NFL imo. But you're right he will be out there probably WR3. It'll be week 1 and he's a rookie so he'll make mistakes im sure.

I sure hope our DBs can handle Dallas' WR group cuz if not then we're screwed when we play Arizona.

Terrell Lewis among Rams rookies that have made strong early impressions

I've watched multiple vids of Lewis. I believed in the pre-draft evaluations that said he was a first-round talent. I've said it before that he could be the steal of the draft. He can be another Fowler type outside pressure rusher for this team. This will allow them to play Brockers inside until Robinson returns and leave Ebukam where he has become an outstanding SAM.

In college, Fuller played FS but in the NFL he lacks the range. As a SS he's got good instincts like Rapp that allows him to play fast. Burgess is what you want in a FS with 4.4 speed that gives him the range to play a single high scheme. He's fast and athletic, everything you want in a FS.

Akers, Jefferson, Lewis, Burgess, and Fuller, Hopkins and Johnston all look to be eventual starters but will at least provide good depth until their time comes. I think the first 4 will be big contributors this year. But you couldn't ask for a better draft the way this is looking.

Remember when...

Corona was a beer...

Zoom was an old PBS children’s show or, perhaps, a Flash villain...

Social distancing was an oxymoron...

Masks were for Halloween...

Bubbles were for baths and soda...

and we took things like eating in restaurants, going to the movies, attending concerts and sporting events, and just hanging out with other people for granted?

Weird year. We’ll get through it, and we’ll never forget it.

At least, we shouldn’t forget. Maybe we’ll appreciate the little things a bit more.
