Real ghost stories

Then I must be going to hell. In my death experience, I saw nothing but darkness; a void, if you will. Honestly, I couldn’t care less where I’m going, but Danny and Irv deserve heaven. I’d gladly take hell if my folks get to go to heaven.
Didn't want to get away from the thread. But.

If Danny and Irv showed you heaven Hello.

I know where you are going and your people have given you the answers. Hello Heaven.

General In Season Outline / ROD Schedule

General In Season Outline / ROD Schedule

We have a lot of habits at ROD. If you are new here, it might feel uncomfortable trying to figure it all out.

Accordingly, here is a general outline of our weekly flow. We adapt as we go... so we also roll with it.

WEEK LEADING UP TO GAME

“Up Next” and “First Look” threads kick off a new week. These threads are started by any member as a general discussion about the next opponent. These get the juices flowing.

We have many threads about the next game. That’s what we want (topics) and what we are here to do... to discuss them.

We are not obsessed with merging topics leading up to games.

So... post those topics!

PREDICT THE SCORE

Prediction threads
are started by Bookies, for Sportsbook cash prizes! These are started 12-60hrs before game time.

GAME DAY MENU THREAD

Menu threads are started by any member and are food and drink threads. What to eat? Recipes. Etc. They can be posted at any time.

48hrs UP TO GAME TIME

PreGame Thread
kicks off the game festivities. This is typically started by moderators. This gets us warmed up for game time... All the important stuff about the game comes into focus.

Weather, injuries, tweets, tid bits, and random stuff.

Trash talk. If you are attending, share it!

GAME DAY THREADS

Game day threads
are kicked off 12-24hrs before game time. These threads are started by moderators. These threads focus discussion specific to games. Keeping things tidy on the board.

VENT OR CELEBRATION THREADS

Post game VENT or CELEBRATION threads, are started by any member, but we start just one. These threads focus post game reaction, keeping the board tidy of too many like-topics.

A fair bit may get merged here, particularly following a loss as we try to balance venting vs new discussion.

A’Shawn Robinson will make Rams debut vs. Seahawks

Yep and he should be very fresh and hitting his stride at the perfect time.
I am very stoked about Jordan Fullers return. Rapp has filled in nicely,
but Jordan ran that defense at another level.
What do you think about it Nighttrain?
with you all the way, everythin comin togather very nicely at just the right time to make a push to the top!

Pleased by progress, Rams defense sees room for growth

Though pleased by progress, Rams defense still sees room for growth entering second half of 2020 season

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Meeting with his unit on Monday, Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley took them all the way back to training camp.

In wake of a completely virtual offseason, those 7-on-7 sessions during the acclimation period in early August represented the first chance to install Staley's new scheme in-person and on grass. With eight games of live action in their minds as a backdrop, the progress was apparent.

"I think that in order for you to show your guys how far you can take it, sometimes you need to show them how far they've come," Staley said. "So for them to see their first snaps in that acclimation period in some of the walk-thrus, and then our very first snap of training camp to the last snap of Miami, I think that you realize how much work we've put into this and how far we've come as a group."

Traditional statistics have the Rams defense ranked in the top five in multiple categories at the midway point of the season.

Los Angeles has the No. 2 total defense and No. 2 scoring defense in the league. It has allowed the second-fewest passing yards and fourth-fewest rushing yards per game. It's tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for second-fewest first downs allowed, while opponents are only converting 33.3 percent of their third down attempts, third-lowest in the NFL. L.A. also makes few self-inflicted mistakes, tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers as the fourth-least penalized defense (40).

Broken down further:
  • Opponents failed to eclipse 250 passing yards in six of their first eight games.
  • No running back has rushed for 100 yards (or more). While the Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott reached 96 yards in Week 1 and the Eagles' Miles Sanders 95 in Week 2, no running back has had more than 71 in the six games since.
"We've just been getting better," Donald said during a video conference Thursday. "You know, I've been more proud of just how consistent we've been playing the last couple of weeks, because obviously, we're a good defense, but there was weeks where we had a great week and then we came back and was, okay, but the past couple of weeks we've been consistent. So we've just got to keep that up and keep feeding off that, keep pushing each other and feeding off each other's energy and continue to dominate."

The purpose of this teaching tool wasn't just to show the defense's growth, though. If they progressed that quickly in the first half of the season, what does that tell them about what they can achieve in the second half?

"We're definitely light years of where we once were in training camp," Rams linebacker Kenny Young said during a video conference Monday. "And now, it's, how can we take it to the next level? The cool thing about it is, we have all the players, we have all the character, we have the know-how."

That confidence will be put to the test against a Seahawks offense ranked No. 1 in the NFL in scoring (34.3 points per game) and No. 3 in total offense (415.0 yards per game), led by the NFL's leading passer in quarterback Russell Wilson (317.6 yards per game).

Still, there is perhaps no better opportunity to measure that growth than that kind of matchup.

"I think as you are aware, there's much more to be done," Staley said. "There's so much. We have such a long way to go. I think that that's what we're excited about and certainly these next eight games will test us each and every week."

So, how many ‘deep playoff run’ NFC teams are there, anyway?

Wilson has had 2 “off games”

Same amount as Goff in my book. But it’s debatable that the play calling in Miami was Goffs fault.

Our deep playoff run will mostly come down to Mcvay and Staley. We have the horses.

Totally agree.

McVay needs to show that he is a championship strategist and play caller. Didn't see anything close to that against Miami, however badly Goff or others may have played.

Staley is well on his way to being an exceptional defensive coach but he will need to show it in the big games too.

As between the offense and the defense, the offense needs to be consistent but the D is the key to a championship.

Where does Derrick Thomas' seven sacks rank among NFL's most unbreakable single-game individual records?

Only one team has ever produced two QB's with the top two ratings for the season. That '51 Rams team had Van Brocklin and Waterfield finishing the season as the top 2 rated QB's. But that's not the amazing thing. Not only are the Rams the only team to have done that, they have done it TWICE! 2003 Rams Kurt warner and Marc Bulger also finished the season with the top 2 QB ratings.
You've said this before and its been debunked. This didnt come close to happening
2002 Bulger finished at QBR 101.5, high game 134.1, Warner was at 67.4 for season, high game of 90.6
2003 Bulger finished at QBR 81.4, high game 106.7, Warner was at 72.9 for season, high game of 79.4 in his only start
2004 Bulger finished at QBR 93.7, high game 116.4, Warner was a NY Giant at 86.5 for season

In 2000, Trent Green finished #2 in QBR at 101.8, but Warner was below that at 98.3, Warner did have a perfect 158.3 game that season, but Green's high was only 118.3, wasnt the 2nd highest Griese had a 123.8 and a 119.2

NFL owners approve contingency plan to expand playoffs to 16 teams if any games cancelled

NFL owners approve contingency plan to expand playoffs to 16 teams if COVID-19 causes cancellations

The NFL already expanded its postseason in 2020 -- and could be on the verge of another playoff makeover if the regular season sees an unequal number of games played due to COVID-19 issues. CBS Sports NFL Insider Jonathan Jones confirmed that NFL owners unanimously approved amending the postseason from 14 to 16 teams should all meaningful games not get played in 17 or 18 weeks. The NFL approved an extra week of football -- meaning the postseason could be delayed by a week -- but won't play past a Week 18. The league created this extra week with the cancellation of the 2021 Pro Bowl, so the Super Bowl would still be played on Feb. 7.

There would be numerous changes if an expanded postseason contingency plan becomes necessary. Here are the key aspects of the 16-team expanded postseason:

The playoffs will expand to 16 teams only if meaningful games are canceled due to COVID-19: NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a conference call with the owners, "The resolution passed today established criteria for postseason eligibility in the event that all clubs cannot play the same number of regular season games." Any game that has an impact on the postseason is declared as "meaningful," regardless of the other team's record.

No team would would get a bye: The NFL would seed the teams 1 through 8 in each conference, with the highest-seeded team playing the lowest-seeded team (1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6, 4 vs. 5). The second round would follow the current postseason format where the highest seed remaining would play the lowest seed remaining (as an example, the No. 1 seed plays the No. 7 seed if the No. 7 upsets the No. 2 seed in the wild-card round).

Division winners would still get home games: Division winners would automatically qualify for the postseason, and would be awarded with a home game in the first round. The teams -- the four division winners plus the four best records between teams that didn't win the division -- won't be re-seeded.
Teams could play an unequal number of regular season games if postponed games can't be rescheduled. If a game is cancelled, a team's standing in a division or its conference will be determined on the basis of its final record. If necessary, playoff tiebreakers will be calculated according to a per game average of all teams.

Goodell confirmed the news of the contingency plan for an expanded postseason, but said the league is determined to play all 256 games on its schedule.
I was going to post this yesterday as: League Institutes New COVID Protocols (3), but I figured it would be locked. lol.

I think we're all hoping the regular season is fully completed by the end of Week 18 at the latest. If it isn't then it's best to have a contingency plan. I wouldn't have a problem with a #8 seed getting in if different teams play a different number of games. There's no perfect solution to the problem.
