OFFICIAL 2021 Coaching changes / Black Monday

Never thought I'd come to Schotty's defense, but here I am.

If Seattle had even a mediocre defense the entire year, the Seahawks woulda gone much farther.

Could be that the high flying "let Russ cook" stuff put the D on the field too much and Carroll wanted to essentially expose the D less which had to have Schotty frustrated...

It'd be like hooking a Bugatti Chiron to a stacker trailer. You could do it, but it'd be frustrating as heck seeing as the trailer would start wobbling before you got fully into 2nd gear...

Schotty's big test will be if he can get Trevor Lawrence up to speed ASAP and get him productive while reducing rookie mistakes...

LA Rams HC Sean McVay still ‘got it’, and he’ll prove it in 2021

3rd highest DVOA ever through his first four seasons. Turned this franchise from a decade long loser to an immediate winner once he arrived. Transformed the #31 ranked offense to #1 in his first season.

But he sucks now, fuck McVay he doesn't know football..he's overrated... The offensive struggles are on him... the NFL figured his scheme out...why would he trade Jared Goff?!!? What an idiot.

Thoughts on the Rams Offseason?

I know the Rams offseason has just begun but you have to admit that it has started off with a HUGE BANG!!! The monumental Goff/Stafford trade ( I really do like Stafford BUT that was one heck of a steep price they paid to get him!), All the Coaches leaving the team, etc!!!

I am not going to lie that all these moves so far don’t have me quite a bit NERVOUS!!! I just hope the Rams really have a PLAN!!!

I am hoping some of you more knowledgeable Ram Fans can make me feel better about what the Rams have been doing so far!!!

Where Does Les Snead Stand With The Rams Going Into The 2021-2022 Season?

I agree on your assessment of Mcvay and Snead. The only weaknesses I see with Mcvay is he under values the role of the Oline and he is unable to evolve his system which is now very predictable and defensible. Besides that he has excellent head coach qualities and value.

Snead's massive mistakes are covered up by Donald and Mcvay. There is a significant ignorance in Snead's risky approach. It lacks a failsafe mechanism of developing early round players as cheap starters and also sticking to consensus scouting vs his own inner scouting circle.

Snead reminds me of the person that keeps going farther in debt by taking out more loans to pay off current loans. Eventually it will catch up and you will be a bottom feeder for years. But all the vacations and short term fun in his mind will justify the long term demise.

I think people are ignoring the elephant in the room which is the fact that Mcvay's offensive system is not only predictable and becoming easy to stop, but it also requires significant talent to operate. Talent that we don't have the means to fund without massive restructures and screwing future seasons. Not to mention the likely dropoff in defensive talent due to being broke.
Spot on on your assessment of McVay failing to evolve his system/predictability . Like you said-he overestimates his OLine-the system might actually still be really effective with better Lineman (especially RT and C and RG) and a better Oline coach. McVay is a great motivator and teacher thats where his special ability lies. He relates well with players and coaches. He needs to really evolve this offseason-the elephant in the room like you said is the inability to generate fear in the run game like when Gurley was Gurley. Akers/Henderson are nice but not the special back Gurley was. We also need a Watkins or Cooks type WR. Still he needs to add a lot more wrinkles to make the passing game more effective get receivers open

2021 MLB thread

Fernando Tatis is going to sign a 14 year extension with the Padres at 340 million. I suppose in a few years that might look like a team friendly deal. He appears to be a special talent. But is there enough of a sample size to justify it? He's got two partial seasons that combine to almost one full season. Great numbers. But it is a risk. Most guys that sign a deal like that have several seasons of proven high level play.

Rams free agency search turns up 3 undervalued veteran centers

I think the Rams will stay with the guys they have. Shelton IMO is an underrated prospect. He can play OG and Center, though C is his best fit. He would bring beef and power missing in Blythe. He also is better on the second level blocking. Bythe looked lost at time when asked to make second level blocks which a center must do if the Rams want an inside run game. In short yardage, Blythe simply got no push as he simply lacks the power they need inside.

I really think McVay will go to a power run attack. But to do so he must have a legit FB for a lead blocker and as a play-action receiver.
IMO they could easily transition Brown to FB as he had the speed, hands and power to play the position.

Andrew Whitworth excited to be back in 2021

NFL players who could regress in 2021

NFL players who could regress in 2021 | Yardbarker

Father Time is undefeated in the NFL, though Tom Brady is currently attempting to change that. Other players aren't so lucky, and it's impossible to predict exactly when a given player might go from star to scrub. Sometimes declines are gradual, while in other cases, a player falls off a cliff and turns into a liability almost overnight. Let's take a look at some players who, either because of age or other factors, might be on the decline heading into the 2021 season.

Andrew Whitworth
Andrew Whitworth

Whitworth overcame a potentially career-threatening knee injury to return for the Rams in the playoffs, and despite the fact that he turned 39 late in the season, he remained one of the league's sturdiest tackles and a true physical marvel.

Whitworth has said he's ready for one more season, and given the way that his career has played out to this point, you'd have to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he's going to find a way to go out while playing at a high level.

Still, tackle is a demanding position, and he'll be 40 in December. It just seems unfathomable that there won't be some regression in the cards for Whitworth in 2021.

Where Art Thou Johnny Hekker?

I’m a HUGE Hekker fan, but he didn’t pass the eye test last season. He was routinely outperformed by the opposing punter. Our defense consistently bailed him out when given a shorter than usual field.
Numbers don’t tell the whole story—it’s the timing of the bad/short kicks.

I know I will be blasted for this, but if we’re looking to dump salaries and collect more picks...
Kupp and Hekker should be considered.

Here's how each team has faired drafting relative to their draft capital

I don't disagree with what you're saying, but it's worth pointing out that they can say they loved Wagner all day long - but if they had any idea of how good he would actually become, they would have drafted him in the first round.

So that trade back, in, their minds at the time was probably, we think this guy might be a good starter.

If anything Snead is making himself look bad trying to do what so many people do - let the world know he was right about something. As you point out, it makes the trade down look stupid.

The story was that Snead like Wagner and Fisher loved him and Fisher was angry when the trade back failed when Seattle took Wagner. Many RoD members wanted them to take Wagner too.

overall Snead has done a good job. I just think he sticks too closely to his theory that having more picks is better because all picks are tied to a certain percentage chance of failure. by having more picks he can guarantee getting some good players.

Rams youthful roster is surprisingly accomplished

I wonder if the starting offense and defense were only considered, would the Rams still have the youngest roster.

Is it really that big of a deal to have the youngest roster.
I guess if an all Pro is expected to decline in their 30’s, maybe a role player is expected to decline around 27? Is it a genetic calculation that has lead to the Rams formula? Or is it merely cap management?

If not Malcomb Brown... then who?

My take is The Rams build within, meaning they will not spend resources at RB. The big question is going to be about POWER.FB/HB.

Mcvay is an innovator who keeps up with the times & not afraid to recreate
a fade from the past.Kromer is still the run game coordinator & Yardbird is the WR coach. The both of them together have the BEST BLOCKING WR in The NFL.
The Rams New RB coach will have more of a say as well in 2021.My believe is Akers is going to be the guy & HENDO is so explosive he can change a game like (SNAP)that..
Calis & Jones already took Kelly out of the picture or whatever his name was.
