Solid points....
I'm of the school of thought that the "blame" for our offense not continuing to be explosive lays in the perceived limitations of McVay with Goff........and McVay's inexperience as a play-caller to adjust to what defenses were doing to thwart our 11 heavy sets. McVay was a play caller in Washington for 1 season I believe before he got the Rams job, so we are not talking about a seasoned veteran play caller as much as we have a very young, talented play call who is learning as he gains experience in the role. Running 11 formation so much more than any other team, to me, was a sign of that inexperience even when it was working well. Now I also believe that McVay felt he was limited with what Goff could do, but I still say we were slow to adjust.
I'm always going to believe we had the deep threat on our roster in Josh Reynolds, and the Everett was a talent that we didn't utilize as we should have. Again, McVay and Goff to me have a lot of responsibilty in that, more than I believe that those guys lacked talent. They both made big plays for us when given the opportunity, but they didn't get as many opportunities as they should have, and our dead money meant that we weren't going to see them in an offense with a QB like Stafford.
I think that between Hopkins and Kendall Blanton, we should be fine at the TE position and I wouldn't be surprised if Blanton passed Mundt on the depth chart with a real preseason with preseason games. Blanton's size and skillset makes him really valuable if he can take advantage of his opportunity...we kept him on the practice squad for 2 years for a reason...and I could actually see Hopkins becoming more of a hybrid WR/TE and filling that "big WR" spot that we no longer have after Reynolds left. Reynolds said after leaving it will be nice to run more than just the hitches the Rams had him running his last year.
I'd also add that Cooper Kupp's early success in the slot got McVay too locked in on the 11 formations, and in hindsight led to some predictability with us. To be perfectly honest, McVay's first year with the Rams saw him being a more diverse play caller than the last couple of years, and he got more predictable as the years progressed. A more varied approach, and a commitment to running the ball...using both Akers and Henderson, is more advisable, and I think we're likely to see that this year with Stafford who is more skilled and can read defenses and make adjustments better.
I'm not sure there is a right or wrong answer, Angry. We will never know anyway. If "their guy" is not there, they might not draft a center, even if they were hoping for it. But the smoke and mirrors is to let all the other teams know that the Rams are not DESPERATE to draft a center. Nothing else. Did not mean to make you angrier -lol.
Haha its all good. I get partial credit because as Director of Player Personel, Snead was probably in the building that day!! Im sure he was at least told to be quiet while Demitrof was on the phone lolNow I feel bad. I'm sorry.
Ive seen contradicting stories that he may go earlier and may slip to the end of the 3rd round. It's going to be interesting where he ends up and where he's drafted.Would be a huge fan of the draft if we take him there. I think he goes higher than #57, though.
Show off!Duh huh!
Same group that says our biggest need is an OT. I agree we should/could draft a possible successor to Whitworth but it's not our biggest need.
For me, Cox isn't replacing Reeder at ILB. He's replacing Kenny Young and John Johnson's reps in the box.
And I do believe that Morris is gong to make some changes.
Well OLB. Rush/coverage.Yeah as soon as I read that article on him that talked about his chess background and smarts I knew the Rams would love him.
The guy does have some outstanding upside. So I won't complain if we take him he would be an enormous upgrade in the passing game.
You think edge? I don't know about that but nothing would surprise me with him. Hilliard reminds me of Uche who I loved last year. He can do a ton of things for whoever drafts him but where he really stands out is in space. Some of his coverage clips are insane.
Right, so nobody has successfully done it before.
Deion by the way has some experience in coaching, several years actually at HS level. It doesn’t make him qualified but at least he has a taste. McCaffrey also coached some high school prior to landing his gig, and again, I don’t endorse his hire.
George? Well, not a bad move bringing Fisher in to basically tutor and mentor him.
Frankly, it’s a bad precedent. I don’t think bypassing the “paying ones dues” stage is the right way to go.
You got me. I looked with a magnifying glassYeah, I didn't really see anything. Just wanted to see if anyone would watch it multiple times because we're all almost desperate for any tell or info, especially now that you can easily bet on it. I got 300 on trey lance going after the 6th pick Pays almost 900. I also like pitts before the 6th pick
